Source of Increasing Mechanical Skill

Hi, I was wondering if there is a list of all the ways in which you can increase your mechanical skill at the moment. I have tried some tinkering with car parts to increase it, but I found that some activities, like removing the seats, raised my skill, while others, like replacing the battery, are ineffective at increasing the skill. Thanks for any information!
