Steam version crashes

yo guys, hate you and love so much. 
While steam is running game crashes always, any mode or booben dance. 

Found solution: 
TURN OFF STEAM OVERLAY MESSAGES
(properties > checkbox off)


P.S.
now i have simple question:
WHY YOU CAN'T SIMPLY RUN GAME, CLICK ON START NEW SERVER AND PLAY PRIVATE GAME WITH YOUR DAMN FRIENDS? 

and maybe, somebody give me simple and complete guide HOW TO CUSTOMIZE SERVER WITH MODS AND MAPS and pin it on Multiplayer thread. can't solve problem all mtf day. that's redicilous.

If you did some searching the forums they do have guides on how to start a server.
