jack11l
I was thinking, the game has gas and all, but because it has no battery? not battery put in the lantern but a battery to turn on the lights and for those who make mods can put it as other attributes such as car and others. valrix
There's small batteries for flashlights and small electronics, but no car batteries or similar yet. If I remember correctly the devs mentioned something about addressing this next build.
jefferyharrell
For their size and weight, car batteries hold surprisingly little charge. Under unattainably ideal conditions, one couldn't power a coffee pot for a whole day before being fully discharged. They're designed to deliver a lot of amps for just a few seconds in order to start your car. As soon as the engine turns over, it starts generating electricity to recharge the battery again. If you've ever forgotten to turn off your headlights, you know how little charge a car battery really holds. ZombieGrinder
jack11l
but I'm not just talking about car battery, but when the lights go out you need the battery to turn on the lights again.
valrix
There aren't many batteries larger than a car battery that can still be physically moved around without some heavy lifting equipment. Like jefferyharrel said, batteries are notoriously heavy for their size and even car batteries don't hold a strong charge for long and would require many of them to run a single fridge, let alone an entire house. I'm guessing they'll need to add household-sized battery banks to hold a charge, if they in fact plan on doing it this way.
jack11l
and if a generator?
valrix
A gas generator can easily power an entire 2-3 story building if the right type, and you have enough gas of course. Our generator can keep our 2 story log cabin powered completely (2-3 rooms in constant use). Ideally you'd want a battery bank that'll store unused power from the generator, this way you'll save gas and not waste a bunch of unused power.
