Hey all,
Anyone know if I create this dedicated server on a separate host will I need another steam account to play on that server? Like if I log in from my gaming PC will it log out the steam account I used to initiate the server instance?
Thanks
No, you just use the steam client to download the files. After that you don't have to use steam to get your server running.

I tried getting Erosion mod working on my server, but yeah, not happening right now.
That's probably because at this point in time there's no way to communicate the differences of files to the client. I'm sure the mod might actually be running on the server, but there's no way to send the information to the client. That's kind of the problem right now.
I came to the same conclusion and actually was thinking that before I tried to get it working, but it never hurts to try, right? Also the server log did show that the mod was loaded so you're right, it was running on the server.
Edit: Maybe if the files were present on client and server, it might work but I highly doubt it.
Actually now that I tried that, it works. It's still a hassle for other players though.
edit: Scrap that. It looks it's working client-side only.

Err, don't get within melee range of your friend.What about when your group encounters other group who also uses safety mode to not to accidentally kill each other, but they aren't exactly friendly towards your group. Then you'd have to disable the safety mode leaving you vulnerable to get accidentally killed by your friend and vice versa.
=D
Yeah melee weapons can be handled. Shotguns are a different thing You just have to be in the general direction where your friend is aiming and you get shot accidentally.
But maybe this just promotes more carefulness when you are out and about in a zombie infested apocalyptic world.

Alright, and I should be able to install java? My hosting company is offering me Ubuntu 12.04 x86.
Yes, you won't need to worry about glibc then either.Your system is non-standard, I'm sorry, I cannot support your further without direct system access, and I'm not really up for that right now. I recommend checking for solutions on stackoverflow/google etc. Take backups, lots of backups. Good luck!
Hmm, well is it possible if I just switch to Ubuntu?
But thanks for helping, much appreciated!

You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gcc : Depends: cpp (>= 4:4.8.2-2) but 4:4.7.2-1 is to be installed
Depends: gcc-4.8 (>= 4.8.2-5~) but it is not going to be installed

But, ok, add this line to sources.list:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian sid main
Then run:apt-get -t -f sid install libc6 libc6-dev libc6-dbg linux-libc-dev gcc
And then remove the line we just added to your sources.listAny errors, let me know
I'm gettin an error: "Option -t requires an argument." when trying to run that script.

glibc upgraded

It's glibc
This'll confirm what version you've got:
dpkg -l | grep libc6
Also, make sure you've run my script!I get this:
ii libc6:i386 2.13-38+deb7u1 i386 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared libraries
And I did run your script from root, just like instructed in Connall's guide.

Firstly, please always put the spoiler tags on their own lines, else it doesn't work!
Right, so you may well not have a dependency. So we can find out what, here's a command I need you to run, from your install location (you need to cd into the place where the dedi-server.sh script is:
ldd projectzomboid/libRakNet64.so
Copy and paste what it says, into a spoiler here.If your VM is 32bit instead of 64, run:
ldd projectzomboid/libRakNet32.so
projectzomboid/libRakNet32.so: /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.1 5' not found (required by projectzomboid/libRakNet32.so)

libstdc++.so.6 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libstdc++.so.6 (0xb755c000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libm.so.6 (0xb7536000)
libgcc_s.so.1 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 (0xb7518000)
libc.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0xb73c8000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb77b9000)
Btw, thanks for taking your time helping. I really appreciate it.

I'm hitting another roadblock. I'm trying to run SteamCMD and install Zomboid, but I keep getting this error line: "./steamcmd.sh: line 29: /home/steam/linux32/steamcmd: No such file or directory"
Solved this by installing 32-bit libraries

Yeah, I've been using the 're-install OS' button couple of times already I'll get there
-
Alright, thanks. The information flood for a Linux-newbie like myself is overwhelming, but I'll try to bear with it.
-
Hmm, after I've inserted the line "apt-get install default-jdk" I get an error line saying "E: Unable to locate package default-jdk". My OS is Debian 6.0 x64.
-
Out of interest, what hosting company are you using?edit: Nevermind, just realized you said it in your post.
-
Thank you for this! I've been planning on this for a long time, but I don't have much experience in Linux so it's been a little off-putting.

Nice server, been playing for a while now with no lag at all!
