Bump. This doesn't even have to be an "I accidentally pressed the wrong key" situation - it can be entirely out of the player's control.
Lost a character today because I got a Windows system notification while kiting two single zombies from a horde. While I fought with Windows to close the notification, the game kept running while minimized, I got bit on the neck, and that was that.
Given that this game is high-stakes (perma-death) and begins by telling you "This is how you died", I imagine that the devs would want the character to perish because of faulty player action, poor planning, or bad luck (in game...), not because of some random, involuntary system action.
THIS IS HOW YOU DIED: You got a Windows pop-up and got your throat torn out.
Doesn't make much sense
This game definitely needs an auto-pause feature such that when the game is minimized or loses OS focus, the menu automatically opens (same as key-down ESCAPE event).
I know several popular games that include this functionality, so I'm sure the awesome PZ team shouldn't have any issue implementing it if they so choose.
Here's hoping this issue gets some attention in the near future. Losing a character that way really, really sucks.
