  1. As it has already been pointed out, the mod is good, at least the idea behind it is great, but I believe it is significantly overzealous in its current form! I mean, toilet water is bad, that's the best feature of this mod, yes; but rain water in barrels? Why?! Stagnation, someone says; well, the mod doesn't wait a week before making rain water in barrels bad, does it? Pollution in the air? Who pollutes the air in today's world? Isn't it the abundance of irresponsible humans and corrupt corporations? One assumes one advantage of the apocalypse is that it has ridden the world of those problems: not that many irresponsible humans anymore (many compared to the planet, not to the rest of survivors), and not many corrupt corporations—if any. So in an apocalyptic world of this type, rain water should really be perfectly safe to drink. If you want to consider stagnation, then do some research on how long does it take for water to become stagnant [and] poisonous in a wooden barrel, and make the water turn stagnant after X number of days. Also drinking from rivers or any running water should only be poisonous the first few times, but afterwards, it should be perfectly fine; humans have been drinking from rivers for thousands of years, you know? This game is already ruthless as it is, and the developers have no qualms about openly dooming your character to death from day 1. If you understand Arabic, you'll know that even the theme song mentions someone who is ruthless ("aasee"...probably the developers or decision makers behind the world, just saying in a light-hearted manner); so while it is fine to add a bit of realism, and I fully support giving a negative result from toilet water, I do sincerely hope that the ideas behind this mod would never enter the game in their current form, because they are collectively too overzealous and make the world even more hostile than it already is; and, mind you, it is pretty darn hostile as it is. And in the real world, overzealous concern about bacteria has created more harm and pollution in the world than good. Products that advertise killing 99.9% of bacteria have to add a gross amount of chemicals, some carcinogenic or cancer-causing, in order to achieve that sadly lauded result. Pasteurization does not just kill harmful bacteria, but also good bacteria; bacteria that you, later on, have to pay for in fancily branded yogurt products! Like how corporations convinced the masses that pasteurization is healthy and good for everything with liquid, while in reality, it's only good for their profit (by lengthening shelf life in stores); they kill not just harmful and good bacteria in milk, for example, but kill everything in milk! Turn it into an inert, lifeless liquid. And those are just two of the countless examples of what this mentality has done to our world. There is a fine line between irresponsible, risky dirtiness, and overzealous, harmful eradication of everything with life under the banner of "purification" or "cleaning".
  2. The Plot They said it was the cheapest place to learn and play golf; and good for hiking, too. But nobody could've imagined that this is what they meant by "playing golf", and "hiking". One of the maps shows a farm with a water well due north west of town; it was supposed to be a tourist attraction for being one of the rare farms in the country that still rely on primitive technology. There is only one thing on my mind: Survive. Only one vision on the horizon: Rebuild. And that farm will soon be our only hope. Details No rolepaying fanaticism or strict rules at all; just casual RP to enhance our immersion in the game, its surprises and mechanics. More focus on cooperation, coordination, survivability, but with a bit of RP when meaningful and not corny.Water runs out in 3 months; electricity in 2 months.Zombies show up again (respawn) in areas where they were killed after one week, rather than daily.Food is left rare, as by default, but weapons and other stuff have "normal" rarity rather than rare; basically, more common than default by one level. Food can go bad, but it's not like this specific place has so many survivors that scavenge or the zombies use any weapons or other stuff.Night (darkness) shortened to 10% of its normal length.PvP turned off.Server pauses if empty.Realistic and reasonable starting items based on the simple plot above: golf club, hiking bag, sweater, water, and snacks.Spawn point for everyone is the Mini Hotel. A challenging start, but fits the plot.Maximum players: 4.Not 24/7. Mainly evenings in EU time zones. Not looking for the server to be popular or widely liked; just a couple of players or so who actually find the plot intriguing and the server settings interesting.Interested? If not interested, then I hope you find something more compatible and very fun. If interested, then please reply to this post or message me, and I'll message you with the server IP. I look forwards to having friendly adventures and trying to really survive and fulfill the vision of the plot!
  3. You might wanna read the sticky about posting a good suggesion.
  4. If religion is going to be used as an excuse to pass on responsibility to someone's deity, like one poster suggested above and got supported, then yeah, it's best to just leave it alone and out of our PZ fictional world. I'm tired of hearing emotional atheists being the quickest people to complain about what "God did" and thus not deserving worship or belief or however they explain that argument of theirs, rather than stick to the principle they supposedly have, which is no existence of a deity in the world, and thus the only entity responsible for the catastrophes, diseases, depressions, and crises in the world being us, the human race itself. We pollute the environment; mess up with the very genetics of nature; fall to greed, mass production, and growth acceleration; produce toxic and carcinogenic chemicals to apply on and ingest into our very bodies; lead sedantary lives that our motion-hungry bodies were never made for; spend tens of times more on military infrastructure and active wars, rather than on education, health care, or an infrastructure that is resistent to natural catastrophes like volcanoes and earthquakes. And after aaall this, after all these crimes against our fellow human beings and even against ourselves, some of us find it soo easy to blame a deity—whether they believe in one or not—for the misery that befalls us and our whole race. It's exactly as if a father gave his newly matured son a hammer and told him that he now has permission to use it creatively the way he wants, and that he trusts that the lessons he taught his son will help him choose wisely. Then, the son takes the hammer and his free will and goes to bash other human beings' skulls, murdering them; and the son returns to his father and blames his father for the crimes and misery caused! Why? Because his father had the power to stop him. As if exercising that power wouldn't render the "free will" gifted to the son meaningless. That's the human race's story with their deity, whether they believe in one, pretend to, or pretend not to. Now, if adding religion will remind us of this very real depression, then I vote for keeping it out. I don't want reminders of this. However, if adding religion will be simple, with a healthy dose of superficiality and anonymity, along the lines of a trait of "Religious" and a book titled "Holy Book", and there is only the benefit of avoiding depression, perhaps gaining a temporary boost of bravery that can be renewed with more reading in the book, and with no negative results from engaging in all that, and no mention of blame on a deity or cursing any deity, then it that spirit of civility, politeness, simplicity, and anonymity, that would be a nice option for those who want to engage in it.
  5. I just tried "nightlengthmodifier=0.1", "nightlengthmodifier=0.0", and "nightlengthmodifier=10" in servertest.ini after closing down the server, then restarted it, logged with a player, and there was nothing different at all about how slow the night passes on the server. Is the nightlengthmodifier setting bugged or do I have to delete everything and start a new server for it to work or what? And as a side note, it seems that a solution or change for night in multiplayer has been discussed and/or requested several times already. From my perspective, it is an already existing feature in the single-player part of the game to simply avoid doing anything during the night by sleeping through it, so it seems natural to me that the same feature should be enjoyed (by those who want it) cooperatively with other players, at least on small, private servers for a family or group of friends. Not everyone would join other players to grief or compete in a game like this; I already play cooperatively with one family member, and we will never disagree on when to sleep or skip the night; we are happy doing it at the same time. It can be implemented by the server simply waiting for all existing players (whether 2 or 6) to initiate sleep, and that's when the server fast forwards, for example. I would really love to be able to enjoy the game cooperatively while realistically skipping activity during the night, especially because visibility can sometimes be reduced to zero with enough panic plus being indoors, leading to some pretty frustrating deaths or bites that bring inevitable death. To summarize, I do hope that at least functional options are given to players regarding night in multiplayer; and I would like to understand why the nightlengthmodifier=0.1 or nightlengthmodifier=0.0 are not working.
