It would be 1. (right-clicking the fishing net and pressing “place”). However, I still cannot retrieve the fishing net after pressing grab —> fishing net. 

Sorry about the lack of response, your reply got lost in my inbox. It looks like the console log you posted was just a single line pointing to the debug logs which is... weird? Would you be able to post your logs.zip file? It might have a little more info

Did you use "Common Sense" MOD? if yes, try to disable that.

From the pictures you posted, just to make sure a few of things: Did you use right click to item in inventory and use place button to put the fishing net into the water? Did you use right click to water and use set trap(or something like that) button to set the trap? If 1, then you are just putting the fishing net as an item on the floor If 2, then the fishing net seems to be broken, maybe you can try to stand beside it and try to open ground inventory to take it?
