Howdy! Another suggestion from me- I love the cooking system in this game conceptually, but the Evolved Recipe UI is very, very aged and it shows. There's also quite a few tiny annoyances with it that... really, really drag it down. Stars am I tired of -2 hunger tiny bits of chicken. In any case, I have a proposal for a new way to cook- behold!
Here's my vision of what an improved Evolved Recipe UI could look like! Here's a list of features:
- Simpler addition of ingredients- similar to the existing UI for the liquid system, you may drag food items into the boxes, or click the boxes and select from a list of items. In fact, you might even be able to add liquids themselves with this system, with some additional programming work? Not sure how hard that'd be. It'd be cute if dragging food into the pan/other dish itself worked, too : )
- Less clicking! This is the important bit! Click and drag all the food items you want to use is much easier than a billion times going through the right click menu.
- Information clarity- you can see the totals that will result from all of the food added to your dish, and with either levels in the Cooking skill or the Nutritionist trait, you can view nutritional information as well.
- A 'recipe book' or 'favourite recipes': this allows you to save recipes that you make frequently, allowing you to make them with fewer clicks. Ideally, this should skip over ingredients if they are unavailable and add the ones you do have. In addition, this could allow recipe cards to be added throughout the world: for example, recipes for an official Spiffo Special burger, the easter egg Portal cake, or simple ones like the boxed macaroni and cheese.
- THIS ONE IS IMPORTANT. Please, please remove the Cooking skill causing you to use less of an ingredient. It is extraordinarily frustrating to be left with tiny -2 scraps of food.
I'd love to hear some thoughts on this! Hopefully the little concept art there gets the idea across, heh.
