Local MP Host "Server has stopped during launch (NormalTermination)" - shared memory stack overflow

Version 41.78.16 (Steam)

Multiplayer Host

Running Manjaro Linux

When starting a local host multiplayer game the server launches, gets stuck at "Getting Server Info..." for a while, before terminating with "Server has stopped during launch (NormalTermination)"

Log files hint at stack overflow.

Indeed, while the game shows "Getting Server Info..." shared memory grows until it reaches the limit of available free ram ( 25GB ), then the server is terminated.

Local host was running fine a few days ago.

New save, old save, mods and no mods. does not seem to have any influence.

Server memory allocation of 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 12GB or 16GB does not seen to have any influence.

Already removed Project Zomboid and reinstalled it.

Removed PZ and Steam (including deleting .local/share/Steam) and reinstalled.

I'm not sure what changed between Host games working and not working anymore... no mayor updates or anything.

I'm out of ideas... Help is appreciated. Logs are attached.

Hello Beard,

Project Zomboid processes before server launch:

Project Zomboid processes right before server termination:

Screenshots are older, but behavior is still the same. Dolphin is just a file manager with open Project Zomboid folders.

Thank you for looking into it.

Thank you for the information, it seems like this is a Linux specific bug related with the latest Steam client release. We managed to reproduce it and will investigate it further. At the moment the only fix I can suggest is rolling back the Steam Client version if possible. On Linux I believe the Flatpack version is slightly older than the Manjaro repository version, so that might be worth a try.

I have the same issue. My current workaround is to download the dedicated server via steam, then start the server on the console:

cd .steam/steam/steamapps/common/Project\ Zomboid\ Dedicated\ Server/
bash start-server.sh

And then I join by IP. Works okay for me.
