I had this same issue. I fixed it by uninstalling, deleting zomboid from my steam folder C:\Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid and also deleting the files from my C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid and then reinstalling. I didn't keep my saves but you may want to.
