Just a question, did your friend port forward the necessary ports when hosting a server? 8gb would be enough yes, the crash is unlikely related to RAM, if it was then it would say as such that the game / PC ran out of RAM.

Likely a full Windows reinstall would be able to fix it in that case, as the driver issues may be pretty hard to solve? You may also try lowering your game settings to see if that prevents the crash.
