  1. lol never mind on the compost, I knew that there was some reason why I was keeping all those recipe books in my home, it was in case I upgraded and needed to reread a book.

Also I filled plastic containers with methanol and can't seem to do anything with them, at least not reverting them into glass containers and the glass containers where consumed in the process. This was on an older version of your mod so I don't know if it still consumes the glass containers.

Nope sorry I'm replaying this mod after a loooong time without even playing Zomboid at all, I didn't even know this game had cremation for corpses or ALICE packs, now we're on the same boat I need a wild beehive to build a proper "beefarm" so I'm leveling foraging and hoping, especially since it can only be foraged at level 10 (a bit too much if you ask me).

Good things about this mod, once you reach certain "curve" you can have a prosperous base... problem is all the stuff you have to build/gather, there are so many different things... there should be a way to round down the huge amount of structures needed, I have a tiny base and its almost full with the furnace, smelter, tanning rack, alchemy table, carpentry table, sawbuck and the crates you have to build close to them to keep things needed to operate them. I'll pray with you for a chain lol.

Of course this is a noob singleplayer gameplay, this mod is obviously made to coop with 2 or 3 mates and divide the workload :D

Hydrocraft is heavily dependent on foraging, so you should probably put a couple of points in the character creation screen. It's easy to get to level 10 if you do, I go out and before I have a chance to fill a bag with foraging stuff, I need to head back to read another foraging book.

The mod can be a bit confusing since it changes so much, as does the vanilla game. I usually try to rush the largest water container that I can get before the shut off (I really hate having to clean water and I save my tablets for emergency use), the well or anything else I can find. All the while leveling up my farming skill by doing cabbages and  leveling foraging whenever I have the time so I can get some animals to produce milk for butter.  After that you just need leather to craft the apron or just luck out and get the fire suit.

After that you should be set up to where you can do all the other stuff fairly easy.

As for the base, I set up in west point above the hardware store and expand below after getting the washing machines from the laundromat to block any entry point.  There's room for all my smelting crafting stations inside the hardware store and I use the apartment above the restaurant for my electronics and weapons storage.

Hi can someone please tell me how to use the crossbow effectively? my character has ZERO reload and aiming but even at close range I can't land a single hit, I've installed the 3D models, the crossbow looks nice and I've got bolts and it reloads and aims and seems to be in working condition but I can't hit the broad side of a barn 2 feet away from it.  :-/

Since the wiki is down, what's the best silent weapon to start? slingshot? what does it use? throwing rocks? I'd really appreciate some community wisdom for early training aiming and reloading starting with weapons that won't attract mass hordes, please and thanks!

I usually set up a shooting gallery from a second floor window since I don't have to waste beta blockers by doing this and it draws them away from my base.  I use a pistol and it always hits someone since there'll be so many of them standing there.

Why is there no way to get the chain? You can't make a flail without the chain.

I think you have to find the chain while you're looting or through the medium junkyard.

Anyone know the best Melee weapon to use in the game? I have Steel Bastard sword (after a few months I finally got the furnaces and tools necessary to even make this). It seems the amount of work I put in to get it and it seems like its even worse than the fire axe.

It's usually best to start with the knife or any 1 stab hit weapon since it lets you level up that skill fast. After that go with whatever sharp blade works for you.

I seem to recall seeing something about spears working like the knives, only you could 1 hit zeds from farther away but it could've been some of the newer updated stuff that's coming in vanilla.

Hi there, is there a way to modify the time I can spend mining before my guy gets the massive penalty from getting tired? shouldn't a decently fed human being be able to work mining for at least 4 to 6 hours before feeling the need to fall unconscious? especially after you upgrade it and you have a pulley system aiding you :-/

    Please and thanks!

What tools are you using? if you mine with the drill it should go a lot faster.

And as far as the idea of getting hurt in the process is concern, i like it in concept, but you are adding a risk of RNG that a lot of players cant control therefore making it a pain in the ass and taking control away from the players.

Hydrocraft already uses a system that lets you take injuries from fire while using a forge or any other fire based crafting, you minimize the chance of being injured if you're wearing safety equipment that can be looted or crafted.

I feel like it would be more fair if the calorie system changed with your weight. So the skinnier you are the less calories you need to eat before losing more weight. A 70 pound person isn't going to need 1500 calories a day as their resting base like a 150 pound person does (Something like a 700 calorie base for a 70 pound person would make more sense). And btw, kind of off topic, but can we get an option to change the kg character weight to lbs? As a silly American it confuses me lol

I'm also hoping protein plays a bigger role in strength in the future. As someone that used to be a scrawny nerd and has gotten into weightlifting and being fit over the past couple years I can tell you diet plays a big role in seeing results. You're not going to get stronger if you're not eating enough protein just like you wont make any weight gains without eating enough calories. Ideally someone trying to gain or maintain muscle wants to eat 0.6 to 0.8 grams of protein per pound of body weight (depending on how used to building muscle their body is) and I'd love to see these kind of things play a role in building and maintaining strength in the game.

    I agree with this

Maybe you could add an XP buff to Str or Fit gains depending on what you eat or your current weight?

If you're heavy, you gain an XP buff to Str since fat helps build muscle and if you're light, you gain a buff to fitness since cardio is easier.

  8. If you want ideas on what other stuff would be nice to add for food, you could try WHEY which is a byproduct of cheese making.

The stuff has so many uses, like in the preservation of foods. I mainly eat it as a protein powder to supplement my protein intake.

That also gives me an idea for a negative trait, lactose intolerant.

  9. When drying fruits or vegetables to put in Ziploc bags, it uses up the water bottle variant of the lemon container. Lost a couple of whiskey bottles that way, not sure if that is intended.

Have yet to try the bowls or any other container.

Have yet to find the washing machines or other appliances, I'm guessing they're in the junkyards? I made a small one and filled it up, not sure what it gave me since I had so much stuff in my inventory and it only let me search it once. Also, there's no recipe for the large junkyard except to fill it.

While watching nomis videos, he said something about making yeast?

Are the wood glue requirements for the wagon wheel supposed to be that high? because 12 wood glue per wheel seems like it would require you to take trips to other places in the map like muldrough or other player made map mods.

I have 11 wood glue after looting around west point, haven't hit the large warehouse on the north part of the map though.

You can craft wood lue from Wax and Glue. Thus Wax from Bees and Glue from Zombie or Animal Bones.

Do I have to read a book for this or something? because I can't see the recipe and when I right click the wax or glue on my inventory I get nothing as well, had over 20 of each and had the other items used to make glue for the making of glue from bones.

Get the Medical Textbook and a Saw, read it, learn Gather Bones from Corpses > Cut up the corpses for bones > Use Mortar and Pestle and grind them up and make Glue.

Didn't realize that wood glue meant any glue.

Wonder how many recipes work this way?

  12. Nice update, can't wait to try out all the new stuff

I'm still on 3.4 and when you eat potato pancakes it duplicates the frying pan which gives you a nice source of recyclable iron

Is there any way to make yeast yet? main reason I haven't tried making alcohol is because yeast is a limited supply and vinegar is a priority.

Get ready for the Oregon Organ Trail!

this looks awesome, I'm guessing it works like the dogs?

Hey hydro just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work, the mod is awesome. I know you get alot of suggestions and i donno if this would be overpowered or hard to code but what about being able to find a miny fridge that would run off of electricity. Right now if you live in a base which you built the generator has no use, and that could possibly give it some, just a idea. If it is possible to code a item that runs off of power, maybe even something like a george foreman grill :P

If you use Extended Building Options v1.4 you can build a mini fridge.

  14. 1. I will have to check that out. I suspect it is the same problem we had with drying fruit.

    2. Yes you need to learn wine making. Grape Juice -> Wine -> Vinegar

    3. That's a good idea. I will try to work that in one of these days!

Oh I see it now, I was searching under barrel but it was under ferment.

Oh btw on my current playtrhough, I've found 6 Alice packs and 5 of them have just been sitting in storage since I use the pack dogs.  Found 7 of the medium ones as well, gotta love the lucky perk.

  15. Made Potato flour and the baking trays disappeared after it put it in the Ziploc bags, I'm guessing it used them up in the recipe?

Any way to make vinegar yet?

Be nice if you could make cereal from corn, bowl of cereal is one of my favorite recipes since milk tends to last for so long.

I've yet to fully explore this massive mod but so far it's great.

I have a question about the wheelbarrow and other container items that have a massive capacity but a small weight reduction bonus.

How do I use them properly? I mean, I can carry 2 backpacks in my hands that would weight less, would let me carry more and I could drop them while they're loaded.

There aren't any packs that can carry more than the wheelbarrow, toy wagon, or hand trolly. The trick is not to drop them before you unload them.

So it's basically ok to walk around with extremely heavy load? cause this game is so realistic that I've never done it for fear of breaking my back.
