Watch_Dogs anyone?

I dunno about all of you, but I'm super hyped for it. It's one of the few games I've ever preordered, and from the videos I've watched, the gameplay and story are fairly interesting, with the gameplay actually utilizing the hacking instead of it just being a thing you can do like some "innovative" games tend to do. Who else is on this hype train with me?

I thought it was already released? :P

Hype, you say? Now, I've learned that if a game is hyped, 90% of the time it'll be bullshit. ;) So time will tell. Can't say I'll ever preorder a game again, especially if it has the terms 'Total' and 'War' in it.

OH, LAWD, OH LAWD! I've been waiting for it to come out forever! Can't wait till my lazy ass gets the chance to buy it.

I was really excited at first, when it was first announced.

The more I watched the trailers for it, and the game mechanics, the less I liked it. It's made it to the point of "Will not be buying", unless I see an overwhelmingly large amount of reasonable reviews. Seriously, while the concept had such great potential, it just looks... shit.

I'm also on the WatchDogs hype train.  I've got the digital deluxe edition pre ordered on steam with the dlc season pass all ready to go for official release Tuesday.  It is indeed very awesome,  the world is amazing.  I will just tell you I honestly think the hype is mostly justified. Amazing atmosphere and environment. Story is a little lite but good.  So much to do,  so many places to go,  details run deep.

I'm confused. It almost sounds like your playing it now by the way you've described it, or are you just saying that based on previews/hype?

There are people who already have it, somehow.

It got leaked a day or two ago. There were plenty of twitch streams the last time I checked.

From what I've heard, people are a bit disappointed.

There seems to be very little to do with civilians besides hacking them for music, cars or money with the click of a button.

You can shoot them but there is no melee combat at all. Only takedowns which are also "press X to takedown".

If you explore the city and its side missions early on, future story missions offer little variety, since they are more or less the same. The city itself is a bit boring from the stuff I've seen. Nothing really memorable. Not sure how close to the original Chicago it is.

The graphics are okay, especially with some pc optimisations. The game really shines at rainy nights.

I've been hyped, too. Now not so much.

The hacking really marketed the game well but in the end it seems to be a meh and lite version of GTA. Different setting, less stuff to do, less entertainment value.

You can already get it! I can't cause i don't have x64 or a dx11 VGA.

What i've heard so far is that its an excellent single player game but GTAV is better.

The problem appears to be the multi player which is mediocre.

I pre-ordered it for PS3, since I'm too poor to get a gaming PC or next-gen console currently. What I'm mainly excited for is the story, which is usually why I play games, since I feel like I'm actually part of the story, unlike a book or movie. From what I can tell, the story is an interesting one, with Aiden on a vendetta for something I will not say because of spoilers.

Exactly this, even the stuff in the 2012 E3 trailer that got me excited (like the leaves blowing past, and the mist/fog billowing out of alleyways) is pretty much missing completely by the 2013 E3 trailer, and even more so in the leaked gameplay videos. In fact, it does look like a last-gen console game.

It would seem that many people were expecting something that might have topped GTA V's open-world success, only to be greeted by a game that barely matches up to GTA IV (excuse the GTA comparison, but visually and expansively it was the first example with both a last-gen and current-gen game of a similar style)

Since I'm getting it for free, due to a bundle with a GeForce graphics card, my expectations aren't that high. Ofc it won't be the new GTA, but I it looks decent and has some new gameplay mechanics which seem to be interesting. So yeah, just have to wait until tomorrow -_-

Yea, PS3 might be an option for me as well but supposedly graphics are very mediocre on it.

Like you said, story is what counts so...

While I commend the admiration of story, I would like to remind you guys that the gameplay in between those story sections will be taking up most of your time. It is afterall, a game. :)

Oh, trust me, I know. I'm probably gonna spend most of my time stopping crimes and just cruising around.

The review of Rock, Paper, Shotgun is really good. It shows a surprising amount of honesty and clarity about what makes games unique and what "good quality" means for an interactive medium. Here's the verdict:

Its city is beautiful. I enjoy spending time in its open world. The architecture, the detail, the music on the radio, the re-created streets, the wind effects, the traffic and pedestrian systems… All this art. Isn’t this the magical 90%? Is Watch underscore Dogs too expensive to hate?

Then I remembered. Those things aren’t a game. The game is sloppy controls which cause you to constantly do the wrong thing accidentally with disastrous consequences; is inconsistently interactive world design; is a cover system whereby you get stuck on scenery or it guesses incorrectly where you want to move. The game is insta-fail stealth missions, wave-defense missions, escort missions, missions where what the character’s say and what the objective is don’t match up. The game is restrictive objectives which don’t make use of the possibilities provided by the open city or the hacking mechanics, and checkpoint positions that force you to re-watch short cutscenes or re-perform rote actions after every death.

Fuck underscore that.

The first paragraph is also really nice, not only in regards to Watch_Dogs, but also 90 % of "sandbox games" and, in fact, most modern day video games:

One day you will purchase a multi-pack bag of assorted crisps. Maybe because you’re going to a party, maybe because you’re living on a budget. You won’t be overly fond of any of the contained flavours, every bite will feel a little on the soft side of fresh, and the individual packets will be 90% air, but you’ll at least feel comforted by having choice and abundance.

Welcome to Watch_Dogs, the latest videogame from Ubisoft

In general, there seem to be two types of stances on the game:

a) The technology is great, but the gameplay is flawed, flat and uninteresting.

b) The technology is great! *drool*

Go figure.

I'm honestly having a blast playing this game. I think it's great,  I don't understand such harsh critics.   Just had a "hacker"  attack me in my game.  Went to the location where he was trying to hack me from and found him by accident because he was tailing me in a car and didn't expect me to just stick it in reverse. Slammed into him and identified him and he turned around to start driving away and I give chase.  Five seconds later he dives out of his moving vehicle for whatever reason I'm not sure. Well it wasn't the wisest of moves because I was still in my car behind him and simply mowed him down and it was over, lmao.  It was pretty great and adds great suspense to the game cause you never know when a player is inside your game.  For a first time game from a new franchise I am really looking forward to see where this goes.   It will only improve in time.   Don't go into this game thinking oh yay another GTA clone or go into this game nit picking every little detail and just have fun.  Enjoy the game for what it is and not for what it isn't.  Soak up the content,  go slow and take your time and don't rush into things.  Walk down the street slowly in a storm listening to the convo's as you go by instead of just holding down the run button to the next mission or fast traveling everywhere.

Ouch, the game for PC appears to be getting hammered!

Was described as playing GTA with your little brother randomly unplugging your computers power.

Crashes and freezes galore!!!!

from who?  I don't get that either cause I've been playing the game all week and haven't had a single crash.  A lot of people's problems are hardware related I think because they don't really have the hardware required to support the game.   Clean those systems out,  make sure those video card fans are clean (overheating is a common issue on new gen games).  I'm not saying there isn't bugs and everything is perfect, but I just think a lot of the complaining is "user head space"  as my old networking teacher used to say.

Didn't experience that. The game doesn't look too bad, either. There are some really good effects.

I think part of the problem is that it went for a realistic look that isn't as attractive to the eye as more colourful sceneries. Especially at day it looks rather grey, but still good, because the lighting itself as well as the textures are really good.

Crashes and freezes aren't a dominant factor of the game. They happen with any game and people who experience them are more likely to be vocal about it.

It's not a bad game. It's just that a lot of people expected it to be "more".

If I'm perfectly honest, I'm quite enjoying it.. Maybe it's becuase I wasn't on the hypetrain like allot of people were?

It's alright, but lack of basic functions of a jump or bash some random prat in the face button really got on my nerves. The random information you get from Civilians is next to useless and the fact you can't really interact with them all that much kind of bothered, just made them seem like shells of nothing.

Story wise... eh. Alright, not terribly amazing something doesn't feel quite right, which I can't discuss without going into spoiler territories.
