So, my 18 year old brother just called Battlefield 3 a "gay rip off" of CoD

I a whole I prefer New Vegas out of 3 or NV.

Woo-hoo! Fallout dsicussion! Go-go-go.

Los Vegas was bombed -- just not as significantly as other areas.

You . . . do realize New Vegas is supposed to be set hundreds of years after the war, right? Not, like in Fallout 3, 20 years after (don't care what Bethesda says, that's what it looks like). Even in Fallout 2, the world was rebuilding and organizing, but in Fallout 3 that's thrown out.

And your entire backstory ceases the matter once you step outside of the vault in Fallout 3, just as it ceases to matter in New Vegas once you take a bullet to the brainpan. The only difference is you don't wonder around saying "I'm looking for a middle aged man" to sum it up.

Enigma hit the nail on the head right here, allot of people prefer fallout 3 for whatever reason but I find Fallout NV is more along the lines of what Fallout 1 & 2 were - granted it isn't a good old isometric RPG but it's still closer because it brought back perks and traits like the original 2 did, unlike in 3 where you just got a level up, choice of perk and a few skill points.. I also love the weapon modification they have in NV, a nice little refreshing change there.

Also the voice acting was terrible in 3 because lets face it, if your only kid disobeyed you and left the vault would you or would you not be angry they left / but happy to see they saved your ass? I highly doubt a father in that situation would speak in a calm, neutral tone of voice like he does in the scene were you save him.

P.S:

How'd we get onto the topic of Fallout?

Well, imirish123 started talking about fallout and stuff like that. He also mentioned that his brother should play Fallout for the TRUE gaming experience.

Also, you can't deny that my icon is sexy.

Because we all agreed that both COD and BF were, to use the term stated first in the title and which I do not agree with in any sense of the word as it was used, Gay in a sense of I hate them both and think that people should play better games and not the kiddie version style of people who play it being homosexual which as a lifestyle choice I agree with.

Moving on I found Fallout 3 to be a better game due to its structure, style and plot but NV to be more fun because it was crazy. In Fallout 3 the escape from Raven Rock, first Super Mutant Fight and initial Elder Scrolls-esque reveal to be moments of awesomeness. But NV's damn dam, casino families, launching zombies into space and the cross-dressing Super Mutant radio DJ murderer(ess) to be brilliantly fun.

I think I played more NV but feel that 3 was a better game.

Also Liam Neeson!

Yes but being the capital city it was bombed so much all that radiation would still be there. Radiation takes thousands of years to go away, even in Chernobyl. Plus all those multistory buildings collapsed....

I won't ever say I dislike Fallout 3 outright (though there's a certain part of me that just wants to hate it, because). Visually, it was a nice enough game and the first few levels had enough interaction with NPCs/quests to keep me entertained for quite a long time, while exploring the collapsed infrastructure and abandoned towns. But some elements were lacking, such as the story. :)

In other words, more or less what Keepbro said above. :)

I must be the only man on earth that likes Fallout 3. :P

No, im obsessed with Fallout and no.3 is my favorite one by Bethesda

I thought the same but vice versa

Certain types of radiation can be gone in as little as hours (and as long as 30 days), leaving the minority of gamma-emitting sources to decompose over hundreds and thousands of years. Even at Chernobyl, a reactor still functions (unless they've finally gone down shutdown procedures -- they have, in 2000?), the sarcophagus must be maintained, and tourists wonder the area.

Most of Washington (though we can always argue unimportant areas) was copy-pasted, with large mounds of rubble blocking any access to much of the city.

In all honesty, I didn't play Fallout NV (yet). I did play Fallout 3 for a couple of hours tho, until I randomly ran into my character's daddy in some abandonned gas station... then I realized I passed a big chunk of the main scenario, I've been punished just because I had a little fun exploring the ridiculously tiny wastelands, which was the entire point of the "open world".

I just hate Bethesda, they make poor sandbox games full of non-sense and they call it RPG, they ruined Fallout so hard I was scared to try Fallout NV (even if they weren't the ones developping it, they still produced it). And lets not talk about Skyrim, it's even worst.

Tho I know Fallout NV feels more like the good ol' Fallouts, my cousin who have exact same tastes for videogames told me it was a cool game, I trust him and might try it someday :]

It's like 6 years old. Gta IV done the same thing

GTA made every subway tunnel have the same map? Every house have 1 of 5-6 interiors (unpopulated), walled off every second or third street with rubble?

. . . Unless they've really screwed up their latest release, no. No they didn't. Having one entry point to a city blocked off that's tied to plot progression is a different thing  compared to the artificial barriers in Washington (mind you, New Vegas had them, too! "Why can't I climb this peak? I climbed the rest of the mountain! Let me through, dammit!").

Well generally skyscrapers fall down when over 200+ nuclear bombs hit a city. (10,000 in the total united states.)

also Gta iv had like 6 interiors. All the shops were copy and pasted and it's explained the supermutants blocked off many of the outer streets with rubble to stop the brotherhood from advancing.  Also metro stations are always the same looking. Many shops have a different interior.

Erm. Skyscrapers?

Washington_dc_skyline.jpg

My bringing this up was to point out that the city isn't very explorable -- you're blocked at most turns, all because some small wall of rubble (many of them where you can see gaps through) just won't let you past. This is similar to the mountains in New Vegas.

And no, not every subway station has the exact same layout and dimensions, with the same interiors, of every other subway station in reality.

Shops, or places where NPCs live, are "special," "custom-made" works. Those hundreds of houses you can enter to loot? They're just the same several homes over and over again.

The current DC skyline is irreverent  the timeline split from 1950-1961 and then over 127 years of building and technological advancement

After only a couple hours? Damn, man. That's a truly MASSIVE amount of bad luck in your case, since it's completely possible to wander around the overworld for dozens of hours without ever actually happening across the main storyline. I know I sure didn't. I must have gone and done ten or twenty different side quests before ever moving on to the main story quest in Fallout 3 and I was never unlucky enough to happen across the gas station accidentally.

Granted, if you knew where it was from the beginning and want to get the story over with there's nothing stopping you from actually heading straight there and skipping all the other quests that lead up to it, since they were all just "Find Dad" type of quests anyway.

Anyone here remember when Call of Duty was a really great game? I remember playing it way back when and loving it, now I literally wouldn't play it for free.

Yes indeed.

Call of Duty 2 (the one after Big Red One) was the last truly great fun, 'original' feeling one I reckon. Hours and hours of multiplayer, after playing and replaying the singleplayer. World at War was a refreshing change from the slump they'd gotten into, but it certainly didn't feel original or refreshing, just something a little different...

You know I gotta say I agree, Call of Duty 2 really blew me away back then, I remember just playing that game in an internet cafe against like anyone and everyone for hours, and there was/is a mod for it that adds random mortar fire into MP, epic fun.
