Omegapoptart Posted Tuesday at 02:12 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:12 AM Version: [42.2.0] Server settings: [N/A] Mods: [None] Save: [New Save] I don't know if this is a bug or if this is intended. In debug mode I was testing the new farming mechanics in the game. Given that Wheat, Barley, and rye all had significantly higher growing periods than any other plant, I was curious if they would be grow able considering their planting time is only 3 months. To do my tests I used debug mode, agriculture 10 to get as much info about the plants as possible, and turned my day time in game to 15 minutes to speed up the test by 4x. I tested with both wheat as well as with Barley (I didn't do Rye in my tests just because I didn't know at the time it had the same growing cycle). I initially planted on September 1st Both plants were growing fine up until December, I made sure they were always anywhere from fine-well watered, however 8 days into December, my barley was dead, but my wheat was perfectly fine. Through the winter I was able to take care of and successfully harvest my wheat. I reset my test again with just barely to check if I messed up somehow, but once again it died around December 7th. With how the game currently works, it seems like there would be no way to actually grow Barley in the game. Checking in the lua at the path "<Path to game>\ProjectZomboid\media\lua\server\Farming\farming_vegetableconf_vegetables.lua" I noticed that coldHardy was set to false for both wheat as well as Rye, I assume this is the reason my barley test died. I do not know if this is intended or not, but at this point in time, both plants seem functionally useless due to the long growing times and being unable to withstand winter. Additionally in game it says the growing time for wheat and Barley is 240, but the .lua file has it written as 960. Just to make sure there is no issue with it, Would the in game 240 time estimate be in days for the full crop, while the 960 is for hours between growth phases? This would make sense as it was around 40 days per growth level, and about 240 days between when I sowed the seeds and harvested the crop. ScrivenerSpills 1
Zhurgy Posted Tuesday at 07:00 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:00 PM Can confirm that out of my 30 planted turnips which I planted on various days of october (apparently best season for them) and out of which I fertilized 15 all were dead by november starting, some managed to reach young turning phase before dying (ones planted earliest and with fertilizer). I assume I'll soon see barley die off too given this post.
Omegapoptart Posted Tuesday at 08:20 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 08:20 PM For turnips that makes sense if you look at the lua for them. They are also in the "<Path to game>\ProjectZomboid\media\lua\server\Farming\farming_vegetableconf_vegetables.lua" file, and from what else I tested, any plants that go into their bad months are 100% guaranteed to die. When comparing them in game vs what is ACTUALLY represented in the files, it seems like the in game descriptions are currently not properly lined up, as it dosent include an bad months, and it has incorrect planting seasons.
ScrivenerSpills Posted Tuesday at 11:03 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:03 PM One thing I mentioned in another thread, as a gardener, it seems someone on the team looked up planting calendars, and are treating the months that you should PLANT them as the only months they grow. When something with a planting chart entry of june july august, and a time of 180, should be able to grow for 180 days past august.
