Setrogamer Posted February 3 Posted February 3 So I've been trying to get a dedicated server up and I'm having a hard time with the port forwarding, but that might not be my only issue as on my host computer I was able to get into the game but on the computer that I play on I couldn't connect at any point but my buddy was able to connect via his laptop on the same network. Although anyone outside couldn't connect. Now I've messed with it and been researching for 3 days and I thing I setup the ports wrong. This is what I am dealing with on my routers port forwarding page. The strange part is that I did get it to show up on the internet tab in game when I searched for it, but it showed as inactive (no one off my network could see it). When at the same time I had it open on the host computer. So accouple questions. 1. Where do I put in the port forwarding start and end for local and WAN? 2. Do I need multiple rules? 3. Is there a problem with joining from host network? 4. How can I get my friends on without them needing to search my IP? 5. Am I just dumb?
Beard Posted February 3 Posted February 3 For router specific questions, I would always recommend following the guides and information for the router you are using, such as: https://documentation.extremenetworks.com/XIQ/23r6/ug/GUID-87CAC0F4-E37B-418D-B849-91853244D701.shtml I can try to answer some of your quiestions though. 1. Preferably create two rules, 16261-16261 and a second rule with 16262-16262, these ports need to use the UDP Protocol, not TCP 2. As said above, it is not necessary, but I recommend separate rules in case of issues. 3. Try putting the "Local IP" of your current PC in the "IP" section when you go to the game > Join menu, since this should prompt your PC to connect to itself istead of going through the router. 4. You can just give your friends your Public IP and they can type it in the IP section in the Join menu. Here is your Public IP: https://whatismyipaddress.com/ 5. Probably not
Setrogamer Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 After I put them both in their own separate rule it started working pretty much instantly I guess I just had a misconception on how port forwarding worked. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beard 1
