Steam deck health tab now showing

I was playing perfectly fine and all of a sudden when I press up on the d pad I don’t get a cog wheel. I bound one of my buttons to the H key but when the health tab opens all that pops up is the black bar. I have tried to pin and unpin it, I have verified game cache, uninstalled and reinstalled and created new worlds. All I’m getting is a black bar. Curious how I will remove bandages. I’ve seen one other post about this online but with no resolution over a year ago.

I am not exactly sure I understand, what H key are you referring to? Are you perhaps combining a keyboard with the Steam Deck controls?

I've had the exact same issue. Was playing on a fresh install on a Steam Deck (no mods) with the default controller (I hadn't touched any controller settings). Played for maybe half an hour and then the up D-pad button just stopped doing anything. Can't figure out how to fix it or find any info that helps.

You could try navigating to the Home/Zomboid folder in Desktop mode and delete everything there except the "Saves" folder. That would reset all your game settings to their defaults in case there was an issue with them.

This doesn't work unfortunately. I tried this, revalidated the game files, and launched a new game. Now up and left of the D-pad don't work :-/ Oh well... Might be time to try another controller layout. Shame the default one just broke without explanation because it was quick enough to get to grips with

Do the buttons work in the game Options > Controller menu? You can test them there as well.
