Beard Posted March 16 Posted March 16 It would depend on the failure, but generally hardware failures can prevent an application from starting.
Aqho Posted June 9 Posted June 9 Hello, I would like to participate to this thread, i have same issue, with a very similar monitor (5120x1440) too, I will do some test to see if i can find a way out. hs_err_pid13604.log console.txt

Aqho Posted June 19 Posted June 19 IHihi, Sorry for the late reply, DDU nvidia driver deletion + reinstall reinstall the game compliteluy, delate the Zomboid folder under C:/user/****/Zomboid start it in windowed 1080p using the ProjectZomboid64.bat or the Alternate launcher in steam result in the same behaviour Here are some errors i have (they tend to change but mostly it's jvm.dll the problematic frame) Also had a "# Native memory allocation (malloc) failed to allocate 2224034730688 bytes" that is a bit wow (2TB allocation ?) Is there other things i could try ? hs_err_pid7552.log hs_err_pid26108.log hs_err_pid24140.log hs_err_pid24908.log
Beard Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Thanks for the info, from looking up the errors in those latest logs, it seems like they point to a sort of processor issue. I have also found some videos and articles reporting issues with the specific processor line that you have, so that would match up. Could you first try following the video linked below and try disabling the mentioned option in your BIOS? It might be the one causing the issue as reported: If it does not help, could you share what motherboard you have? You may need to update your BIOS + Chipset drivers, as those would be related to the processor functioning correctly as well.
Aqho Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Hello Beard, i am well aware of this issue, i did those settings back in january when i rebuild the PC and saw the BIOS settings complitely fucked up out of factory, i just put the intel recommanded settings in the documentation they are giving to motherboard manufacturers (even if they ignore it apparently), nice to see big channel like Jayz talking about it but it's very late hahaha Also after building my computer i go around differents forums and saw that it was impacting stability so i did several test to see the stability of my system, everything was fine. Also when i was running into stability issue due to those power settings i always had "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED" showing in windows log report for almost every application i will try to lower a lot the power limit to eliminate this possibility. Aqho Posted June 26 Posted June 26 (edited) Hi, i am back with some news, i confirm the issue was due to instability with the CPU so i don't really understand the out of memory errors Strangely since 5 months i didn't had any issue with any other games / soft (even very heavy workload on the CPU) but it seams that Java is more challenging on 1 thread than some soft on the 32 threads haha. So the outcome for people who have a 13th or 14th gen intel CPU, The known issue is to set back the PL1 and PL2 power limites to the ones specified by Intel (i9 13900k PL1 -> 125W or 253W for extrem confs and PL2 -> 253W + maxICC 307A) this was perfectly working for me for the rest of my usage + CPU benchmark but not zomboid. Lowering the PL1 and PL2 to lower limits will not help, You need to change your ratio per p-core to lower the max frequency under PL2 (for instance the ratio are 58 for P-core 0 and 1 and 55 for P-core 2 to 7) i tryed lower everything to 50 (P-core 0 to 7) and solved this issue, after it's a matter of tweaking and trying. for now i am on 54 for P-core 0-1 and 52 for P-core 2 to 7 My game is now starting without issues, i also tryed to load the CPU with an OCCT bench while loading the game to force crash but no more issues. Edit: Here is the datasheet from intel for 13th and 14th gens for PL1 PL2, iccmax, and turbo duration. (For instance the i9 13900k is on page 99 and the denomination is 8P+16E 125W) https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getContent/743844 thx for pointing me this issue, I didn’t think about digging this issue again since I had no more issues since a while and the Java stack was pointing a out of memory. thx again for your support and fasts answers! Edited June 26 by Aqho Adding documentation for issue
Beard Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Thanks a lot for the info and testing, I will forward this thread if I come across any other players with the same issue and CPU type.
Kuma III Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Howdy, apologies for the bump, but I've run into an issue like this, I can see the same error message in the op (V [jvm.dll+0x3e524f]). I've done some research and found I am able to play the game with -nosound in the steam launch options, my current headset is the only active device and it's set to 48000 Hz. Without the -nosound launch option, the game crashes either a few seconds after the splash screen, or right after I hit click to play when loading a game, more so the prior than the latter. In the audio settings, it says "Error! Check record device frequency" Not sure if this is what's causing my game to crash, I don't play multiplayer, so I have no reason to need my mic to work for it. I never had this issue before, played the game about a month ago and it worked fine, not sure what happened to start having this issue. I've attached the latest hs_err file. hs_err_pid11516.log
Beard Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Are you able to lower the device to 44 100hz as a test? And if that does not help, can you lower even your inactive, disabled and disconnected device to that value?
Kuma III Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I've tried doing that and it made it crash even with the -nosound launch option. as for the already disabled devices, there is no option to change the hz on them since they are disabled. I've attached an updated hs_err file with my devices set to 44100 Hz. Not sure if it's any different to the one I already posted. hs_err_pid25968.log

I just gotta figure out which of my 213 mods are causing this crash....
Beard Posted September 15 Posted September 15 You may or may not be able to see the specific mod error in the console.txt file in your User/Zomboid folder. Though most of the time it will not point to a specific mod and instead be a generic error. Kuma III 1
Kuma III Posted September 15 Posted September 15 I was able to pinpoint it to a handful of mods that could be causing it, keeping them disabled has allowed me to continue playing the game as I was before. Much appreciated for your time! Beard 1
