Game crashes after 5-10 minutes of gameplay.

I have been trying to figure this out on my own for a while, but haven't had any luck. I'm a new player and have no experience with the game before downloading it off Steam.

 

Every time I try and create a new character or even just play the tutorial the game freezes and crashes after around 5-10 minutes of gameplay. I can even pinpoint the specific moment in the tutorial when it happens, the part where you break open the window to get the shotgun.

 

This happens even with the alternate start you can select on Steam.

 

I doubt this is a common issue due to the lack of answers I've found, but if any of you fine folks have a solution, I'm all ears.

I can only recommend switching to the older "Legacy" game versions by going to your Steam Library > Right click Project Zomboid > Properties > Betas > Select the Legacy 40 or older versions.
