Don't even make it to gameplay

Downloaded and installed Zomboid and Java this morning and I only get to see "this is how you died" (death by bashing face onto keyboard). The screen will either stay entirely black and sometimes it will show me the clock and time control even the clothing inventory but the rest of the screen is completely black.

 

I am also including a screenshot of what happens when it cuts to black just in case it helps. How "good" a computer do you need to have to run the actual game? I have a run of the mill Toshiba from three years ago if that helps. I'm also running windows 7 if that is relevant.

 

I didn't have any problems getting the demo to load yesterday (or playing it until 3am) but now I can't get the full game to work. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I am also very tech UN-savy so please be patient and use small words with me as I will come off as an idiot but I swear it isn't to waste your time.

 

I looked around the forums a lot on my own and I am still suffering the same problem. Maybe I just needed more guidance on the instructions from like a mod or admin.

Please try deleting the following directory:
C:Users/*Username*/Zomboid

 

Then, see if it continues with the driver not responding error.

 

If it does, please post your dxdiag report here.

You can do that by going to Start > Run and then typing "dxdiag" without the quotes and rpessing enter.

Then click "Save all information".

 

Also, please tell us if there is any error message in the command prompt window that opens up along with the game window when you start PZ.

 

All this will hopefully help us to figure out what's wrong.

 

It's a problem that I mainly observe on integrated Intel graphic chipsets (basically the integrated graphics card in your laptop). You comp should be good to go to run it. There are just some incompatibility issues with (mostly) some (older) Intel chipsets.

I deleted the zomboid directory as you said and the driver still had problems.
 
I am copy/pasting the dxdiag to this post. When the game crashes the black box that opens next to it closes as well.
 
Out of curiosity, is it possible that my computer will just not be able to play the game at all?

They're rarely up to date -- the one listed on the Toshiba site is still a year behind.

I am doing as the guide says because I got this message:

If you choose not to use the validated graphics driver from your computer manufacturer, you can install an Intel generic graphics driver. However, if you encounter problems using the generic driver, Intel recommends reinstalling the validated driver from your computer manufacturer.

To install the Intel generic driver, choose one of the Windows* Have Disk/Known File methods for updating a driver:

• For Microsoft Windows XP*, go to Have Disk installation steps for Windows XP
• For Microsoft Windows Vista*, go to Have Disk installation steps for Windows Vista

I uninstalled the current driver and now I don't even see a display adapter option in the device manager section. And my screen has shrunken with black edges surrounding it!!!!
