Project Zomboid won't start!

Mage112288

Question

Right to start off i have a:
64 bit laptop

AMD A8-4555M APU WITH RADEON HD GRAPHICS 4 CORES

Windows 8.1

8.00 RAM

The problem: For some reason i start the game up, and i get the Command prompt come up, doing its stuff do load the game, then the game window appears and in a split second i see the command prompt do stuff and load up stuff and then shut down. I'v seen many people post about this yet none have come with any conclusions.... i need help with this.

I have tried launch admin, Safe mode, compatibility settings yet none of this seems to have an effect i get the same old command prompt which starts the game then shuts down... :'(

Have you tried playing the game from ProjectZomboid32.bat?

If this results in the same thing, please delete %username%\zomboid.

If this results in the same thing, as well, please delete your ProjectZomboid installation directory and reinstall the game.

If none of this helps, we can continue from there. =)

Well i have new news that it might be that the game does not detect my 64 bit java.  I do believe im supposed to use this

".\jre64\bin\java.exe" -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -Djava.library.path=./ -cp lwjgl.jar;lwjgl_util.jar;./ zombie.gameStates.MainScreenState
PAUSE

as a .bat file but i have had no luck any ideas on getting this working?

Panic is the only answer. (clyde)

But seriously, I've never seen this before. Could you try clicking on Project Zomboid Demo in Steam, going to Properties, Local Files, then verifying the integrity of the game?

I'm getting exactly the same problem as you.

I've tried:

  • reinstalling java 64 and 32
  • reinstalling gfx drivers
  • reinstalling the game in each version and different locations
  • editing .bat files 64 and 32

All to no avail. It just opens a cmd prompt then closes and nothing happens.

Go to %username%\zomboid (C:\users\EG\zomboid where EG is your Windows account name) and delete everything.

You can probably restore this stuff if the game just starts working again, but for the moment it looks as though the game is failing to locate its files, possibly because there's whitecharacters (or special characters)  in the filename of the saves, or a recent game of LastStand has broke the \lua\ directory in that folder.

Try not giving your saves any special names -- just use the default generated for now.

I'm sorry I think I should have stated that I have never actually got the game to run and I do not have any such folder in %username%. I've tried transplanting a friends zomboid folder but unsurprisingly that did nothing - same results.

Can I get a response to this thread? I am having the exact same issues with the command promps shown having the same issues as mine.

Bought the game a few days ago and the thing will not start... The command prompt pops up for a few seconds, runs, the closes with nothing happening afterwards. I have updated my java numerous times, deleted the user data, reinstalled the game, deleted the steam folder and then reinstalled again, tried compatability mode, tried normal mode, and nothing. The same thing every single time.

I've disabled my antivirus and reinstalled but its still the same. My computer is not networked. No idea what's going on D:

Sorry I didn't get back to you, SerDafe. I'm not really sure what else you can try at this point, however. =/

A screenshot of the errors would help immensely.
