Since the update, I get "Connection to the server was lost" [click to return to desktop] while trying to connect to my own local hosted server (host coop) in the same PC.

This are the latest lines of the log:

A few notes in my instance:

I am able to join other people's hosted games.

Another computer on my network is able to host.

I did have two mods previously, which should all be disabled and removed now completely.

I did a complete uninstall through Steam and cleaned up all old data including registry keys through Revo Uninstaller.

I copied all files from the other computer into the affected machine, ran a java cleanup, verified file integrity, same thing. I click to host, pick the map, create a character, and instead of "this is how you died" it's still a black screen.

In the case of the black screen issue, can you make sure to update your graphics card drivers? The recent AMD drivers have issues causing black screens, so I recommend updating to the latest Optional version.

That is very bizarre, the logs suggest that everything loads fine, though it does say that you eventually disconnect. It would seem like this would likely be a connection issue, can you make sure to open the 16261 and 8766 ports through your firewall? The Project Zomboid app itself should be open through the firewall but maybe the ports would need to be opened as well in your case.

Preferably open both UDP and TCP ports and in both Incoming and Outgoing sections of the firewall.

uPNP shows these open, as far as I can tell. Can I test this somehow, telnet or ssh to my external IP over 16261? 8766? Should I expect some sort of response?

What I find weird is that this only happens once but when I compared it to other logs it occurs often:

LOG  : General     , 1660872076633> 27,383,567> command entered via server console (System.in): "ping@pong"

Every time it states that coop master isn't responding though.

is there any fix for this?!

Fix to what specifically? As far as the connection issue goes it is mostly caused by an antivirus blocking the connection as mentioned already. Or ports not being open properly.

  • I don't have any antivirus or firewall enabled at testing this, and windows firewall have all incoming and outcoming ports enable for the game (all these years work just fine)
  • I'm trying to connect to localhost, and start a LOCAL game server.
  • my router have all the correct port redirected, but since this is localhost, its not valid

You would need to share all the logs mentioned in my previous replies.

Here they are. I was able to play for 3 years, but since 41.73, I cannot connect to my own hosted game anymore. I cannot start a HOST server anymore because of this. I'm not trying to connect to other PC, I just only click on "start HOST multiplayer server" like always. It ends displaying "cannot connect through P2P", but I firewall and router rules are the same, forwarding the same, and allowing the same.

From the error code, it looks like the Steam API timed out waiting to accept the P2P connection.

From Steam docs: corporate firewalls can also block this (NAT traversal is not firewall traversal) // make sure that UDP ports 3478, 4379, and 4380 are open in an outbound direction

I don't see any attempts by the server to forward its ports, either. If you turned off UPnP for some reason, you should probably turn it back on. Double check that your port forwarding points to the correct address of your computer (its LAN address).

Don't forget to restart Steam and just see if there's any pending Steam client updates. Out of date clients won't be able to play multiplayer through Steam.

I tried enabling and disabling UPNP in the game server settings. On the router I can clearly see packet trafic over the forwarded ports. But it keep saying "cannot conect to P2P server".
Also I verified all windows firewall config, and zomboid and steam have all port TCP and UDP enabled. And the forwarded lan address is OK (a static one).

Is that what the red "connection to server lost" is indicative of? I often times get the P2P error when initially loading up a server but seemingly without fail it works on the second try, if the server itself works and I do not get the connection to server lost error.

Usually, up until a point. I have had issues like this on other servers ive made as well. I dont believe it would be a network or P2P problem but rather some mod incompatibility as if i make a modless or limited mod server I can boot it up just fine. This server however had stopped booting up despite the fact that zomboid itself has not updated nor any of the applicable workshop mod items, hence why its confusing why it suddenly stops working despite nothing having seemingly changed.  But again I can create or load up other non-dedicated  co op servers I host without issue. I am unfortunately not good at discerning what to look for in the console log as to what may be causing the issue.
