Destructiion Through Walls

I wanted to take down a wall but was only offered "Object" as a definitive structure to disassemble. So I let loose with the sledge and the wall wasn't even touched but the completely loaded fridge/freezer on the other side of the wall got destroyed.

 

Am I capable of destroying an already existing wall? I tried taking the window to the wall out to make it a wall only and found I couldn't place it anywhere that didn't already have a hole in a wall for it to go into. I should be able to place it anywhere since it;s in an entore frame.
