I'm going to fill this thread up with things that will help you if you're new to D&D, a returning player, and probably even some stuff for vets as well.

New Player Information

-Pages 1 through 30 in the Player's Handbook (4th Edition) I'm not going to link it since technically it shouldn't be distributed

-https://www.dropbox.com/s/p19y0craqf6986b/Abilities.pdf?dl=0 The "What Goes into an Ability" guide that I wrote as an easy introduction to abilities

-http://lookrobot.co.uk/2014/01/10/six-questions-will-help-make-better-character/ A basic guide for improving new characters with some background details

-https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/topic/21481-my-take-on-character-building/ My personal take on character building; you'll notice I steal some stuff from the other lookrobot links on the page.

-http://dnd-newbie.blogspot.com/2010/06/d-4e-rules-blast-and-burst.html The difference between blast and burst attacks. Super-quick read, recommend everyone skims it quickly

-http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/5520-dual-wielding-how-does-it-work/ The "Dual Wielding" guide I wrote as a basic rundown of how it works

-http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/5965-list-of-dd-4e-official-classes-and-races/ Listing of Races and Classes for D&D 4e

Dungeon Master Resources

-https://power2ool.com The best thing in ever for planning a game. It has full functionality for tracking monsters, encounters, items, abilities, notes, etc. I couldn't DM without this. It's free, very simple to use, and I can't stress enough how valuable it is

-https://app.roll20.net/home This is the online tabletop we use for our games. It's the best thing to happen to pen and paper games since their birth- no exaggeration. Real time chat, dice rolls, super easy game board. It's amazing.

Extra Resources

-http://lookrobot.co.uk/2013/06/20/11-ways-to-be-a-better-roleplayer/ One of the best guides on how to be a good roleplayer and how to fit in with the group. I  highly suggest everyone read this.

-http://lookrobot.co.uk/2013/06/23/stanislavski-vs-brecht-in-tabletop-roleplaying/ An advanced guide on how to be a good character. Read this if you want to improve your RP skills.

May I suggest this?

http://dungeoneeringnewbie.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/filling-out-dd-4e-character-sheets-a-step-by-step-approach/

Helped me while trying to figure out the calculations for my character. There were only a couple of things that seemed outdated, so obviously read your character information.

Yup, that's a good step by step guide. Note that he messes up slightly on one of the calculations (the intelligence ability modifier) and also does the defenses wrong (forgets to add ability modifiers to them). Over all, though, it's a decent one-step-at-a-time guide, since making a char sheet can be overwhelming at first.

there is also a cool website I could link you to if you want it's like the game master can create the game while people are playing it or just premake the entire thing if rath wants I'll put up a link

Edit: Rath already had it up there. But it is a very nice tool to use! (roll20)
