*Updated - behind a CGNAT, making it impossible to port forward* Dedicated server issues - the server is not responding. I've opened ports and I'm pulling my hair out

Good day,

UPDATE - After much research and headache, it seems my internet connection is provided through a CGNAT, which according to what I've read, makes it impossible for me to have proper port forwarding.

OP-

Quick background - I've hosted multiple game servers over many years and never had such issues.

I've opened UDP ports 8766-8767 and 16261 in both router and firewall.

I'm able to connect to running dedicated vanilla (no mods) server via local network.

Trying to connect via external (over internet) produces "the server is not responding".

I am seeing the following messages when starting the server and I'm wondering if this is standard, specifically regarding the parts about ports already being opened, but also failing...

Thank you for the thoughts on this.

Thank you very much for your reply.

After much research and headache, it seems my internet connection is provided through a CGNAT, which according to what I've read, makes it impossible for me to have proper port forwarding.

If you still think installing the server using SteamCMD might circumnavigate this issue, I'm more than happy to try. I really just want to play the game with friends on a dedicated server, but purchasing a static IP is just not financially possible.

  • bhi changed the title to *Updated - behind a CGNAT, making it impossible to port forward* Dedicated server issues - the server is not responding. I've opened ports and I'm pulling my hair out

Unfortunately it would not circumvent that, best I could suggest is either just hosting using the Host function, since that goes through the Steam P2P network. Or try hosting using tunneling which would allow you to host a dedicated server just for friends. Use services such as Hamachi or ZeroTier to virtualize a LAN network and that way it should bypass the static IP requirement.
