CaptKaspar
Recently we had a horde of zombies attack a base that we set up in Riverside. We noticed the zombies on the SW side of a tall black fence that zombies can not climb/cross. Upon seeing us the zombies immediately went around the fence and broke through a wall that we had built. Not a single zombie approached us and tried to get at us through the fence. They were smart enough to immediately know the path-finding needed to get to us. This was pretty immersion breaking. The zombies could see us through the fence, but they knew they needed to go all the way around the fence (and destroy a player built wall in the process) to get to us. None tried to get to us through the fence. Most, if not all, should have tried to get to us through the fence. Maybe after awhile they might figure out to go around the fence. Immediately though? Red indicates where the zombies were. Blue indicates where we were. Black lines are where player built walls were placed. Papa Juliet Whiskey
Too bad they can't grab through the fence, would add a little bit of extra anxiety. Large preexisting fences should be thumpable, which could prevent this. But since they don't path right through, they take the direct most route. They'd follow the same path without the player built gate, as they don't do anything other than walk around fences. If you base up in the houses on the east most side if the neighborhood, you'll notice them just standing around like idiots on the opposite side, shoulders swaying in the breeze, because they can't path far enough to even get to the player.
