I also suggested a few others in my modding tutorials. Maybe you like one of those johndough. I stick to eclipse because I'm simply used to it.

I use eclipse while i'm programming in Java. Never tried using any languages in it.

The Indie Stone recommend : IntelliJIdea ! :D

 

I really don't like the package/hierarchy representation, but it helps a lot to avoid those little mistake (forget to put an end, etc.), also it detect nil reference, etc...

 

But you'll see, after a while you won't make that kind of error anymore :)

Do you need any additional lua-plugins for IntelliJIdea? I've not tried it yet, but I know there is a free version available.

 

EDIT: Now that I have tested it I can say: It's glorious!!!
