Update mod as contributor

Is there a way to update the mod via the game if I'm not the main developer? Steam has not been able to add this function for 5 years, but maybe there is an option in how the mod is loaded through the game to the server?

You cannot really update it on Steam. You can edit it on your computer though and upload a new version to the workshop.
You can also copy it from "Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\108600" to "C:\Users\YourUserName\Zomboid\mods"
then you will be able to load the mod in Singleplayer to test out your changes, which is good for mod development, you cannot load it on Steam servers though, as they need the workshop ID of the mod to load properly.
