Save Game Says my character is dead 41.21

i been playing CDDA and after quitting the game and trying to reenter i can't because it say my character is dead and ask me to star a new one. I try playing again and most of the time it does the same thing. Im on mac version.

I actually signed up for an account here just to report this bug but glad to see I'm not the only one this is happening too.

 

In the mean time while it's still going on, I managed to find a work around. If you start a new game on any difficulty, it'll allow you to continue on your previous save, and the newly created save will then be treated as dead. Not sure what it could be related to but I've played in Sandbox this patch if that information is of any use.

Same problem here on PC. Seems like the problem only appears when you have multiple games saved.

 

Did some tests with an empty save folder : 

- Game A : Works fine can quit and go back without any apparent loss even after creating other games.

- Game B : Can play once, character is considered dead when you exit the game. When game C is created character not anymore considered dead but save won't load anymore.

- Game C Can play once, character is considered dead when you exit the game.

 

Tried with survivor and sandbox gamemodes and had more or less the same issue (Character from Game B was never considered alive after creating game C on my sandbox tests)

 

I guess while waiting for a fix just play with one savegame.

Five of us. I started the Kingsmouth scenario numerous times, to see if there are different spawn points. One of these save games is bugged as described above. Haven't even moved from my spawning location but it says "DEAD" :-) 

I'm playing the Mac version, too.

Thank you for testing this, I can play with one save game now for the time being. One of my corrupted save files is one of my longest survivals so I'm kinda salty rn. 🧂
I guess the joke's on me because IDBUMS. (I Didn't Back Up My Save) 🤣

Also occurring on my end since 41.21 update and I have never experienced this behavior in previous IWBUMS versions.

 

I register here the note my observations testing this for last hour...all in West Point

 

I am running win10 with and without a 1 single mod (Filibuster Vehicles). Disabling the mod makes no difference in my testing.

 

Here's the results (generally as I am stumped at exactly what I am doing to trigger it at times):

- You start a new solo game (I did this with all saves deleted), exit to the lobby and then try 'load' or 'continue' the save treats the character as dead with a white skull next to the file name as posted in screenshots further above. (lets call this solo 1)

- If you try to recreate a new 'solo' game (solo 2), it does the same thing...but the skull on solo 1 disappears and trying to reload solo 1 crashes the game...ie corrupts the file completely.

- Even stranger, if you start another game (solo 3) but dont try to load solo 2, exit completely from PZ, start the game up again, there is a small chance that one of the previous 'dead' saves might work...I feel it is the most recent of the saves (ie solo 2)...but I failed to establish a pattern

 

A couple of other strange observations in testing this:

- I noticed if you persist with a 'dead' save (i.e. generate another 'continue' character) it can result in strange things such as all the vehicles disappearing sometimes.

- If you delete any saves via the 'delete' button in-game, then start up a new solo (which will be 'dead'), the previously deleted saves reappear with version 'unknown'...ie corrupted ghost saves!

 

I have started up around 30-40 new games simply testing this either at spawn just outside and even sitting inside a vehicle, but I cant pin point exactly what the pattern is.

just noticed a small update when i started the game again after posting and going off to do something else....now things are working fine for me.

 

tried to replicate issue several times and no more 'dead' saves.

 

i assume the devs fixed something...thanks 👍

Anyone still got issues with this, or anything similar?

A few rumblings of issues still being around, but I'm unsure whether or not it's just people who didn't get the patch through somehow - which can happen sometimes.

no that's just bad spelling in our code. its consistently badly spelt though. ;) so it doesn't matter

If you're still having issues, best thing to do is go into your save folder and delete everything. Create a new character, quit, and see if the issue persists. You have to be out of the game to do it because you won't be able to delete some of the saves while PZ is running.
