Hi! I came with this idea after reading another thread called "Personal Challenges".

I was answering and then I realized that I listed everything in my current sandbox setting, so I tought of sharing it here. I'm also curious to see other interesting scenarios as well.

My favorite Sandbox setting:

  • Starting month: December
  • Months since the apocalypse: 12 months
  • Extreme rare loot
  • Extreme rare generators
  • Car Spawn: High
  • All cars with low starting condition
  • Zombie distribution: Uniform
  • Zombie count: Insane
  • Water and Electricity shutoff: 0-30 days
  • House alarms frequency: Often
  • Locked houses frequency: Sometimes
  • Darkness during night: Dark

Zombie Lore:

  • Fast Shamblers
  • Toughness: Fragile
  • Blood + Saliva Transmission
  • Cognition: Random
  • Vision: Poor
  • Memory: Long
  • Smell: Bloodhound
  • Enviromental Attacks: Off
  • Day/night active: Day
  • Zombie Form Groups: Disabled

Everything else remains unchanged (using Survival setting as default).

  • 3 weeks later...

I like it hard.

Environment:

September, apocalypse starts. With time compression 1 day to 2 hours, I can spend 1-2 in game days every real day or two.

Extreme rarity of all items makes finding watches, axes and big bags super exciting, and reduces trash clutter.

Extreme rare genrators for the same reason, not working outside. Virtually infinite fuel = too easy (yet there still are some fuel stations with distributor close enough to building)

Medium cars spawn, in low condition.

Power and water shutoff immediately. Fresh food only for first week or so, until start farming.

No power = no house alarms. Houses locked very often.

Pitch black nights.

Weather mostly dry and cold. (Hope for "extreme temperatures" setting someday, for super hot summer and freezing winter in one year).

Player character:

Fast stat decrease. Getting hungry and tired in about realistic rate (yet still water depletion feels too slow for me).

Max injuries severity. Zombiefication in seconds, you got bitten = you lose.

Zombie lore:

Regular zombies but speed set to "random". Danger gets real, you really need to observe zombies, identify fast ones, and constantly checking your rear. Engaging more than one zombie is risky, and 3 are certain death.

I use also day zombies activity, somewhat balanced by pitch black night setting. (Would love to be able to set activity by air temperature instead).

Urban distribution. Starting population 0.7, peak 1.0. Fast ones are challenging enough by themselves. (And everything is less laggy then, yes, I have old computer).
