What is the ultimate base location?

I always like to try and make a huge walled off area to keep the zeds out indefinitely and find the map has a few places that can accommodate this well. My favorite spots are the lumber mill and the race track. The lumber mill is already mostly walled off, and on top of that all the logs make it hard for zombies to navigate and swarm you when they do break itt. The race track is very large and has only one way in and out, making it easy to defend the whole thing, plus once one is established they are close to the mall, and could theoretically wall off the whole peninsula, making the largest base of all. What are your favorite spots for long term fortifications?

The railyard is not a bad choice, but I tend not to go there because it is so far from everything else.

The prison is a great spot but takes a bit of grinding to secure so I usually do not go there, the gate community in the same town is also a nice spot, but is small. I have also found the fenced in schools and nearby gated community in another town as very defensible locations.

Construction site.  Get to level 6 carp for stairs and you have an indestructible 1st level base.  With an unbreakable fence to level up shooting/melee skills with no threat of death.

Those are all too big. You risk having zombies spawn inside when you're not looking, as well as the possibility of a breach you overlook unless you're willing to patrol the perimeter every day and check for damage.

The best base I've ever had was right here: https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.35020467236485814,0.27533776678942046,437.17505428558025

I survived for over a month here, and for me that might as well be a year (I'm not the best at this game.) There's trees nearby for cutting down and building, and the main structure can be easily walled off. There's space behind the bathrooms to grow crops. There's a bedroom on the second floor with storage for meds and ammo. There's more storage on the first floor. Most importantly, it's on the outskirts of Rosewood, meaning fewer zombies around. And it's right next to the highway, so if you need to hop in a car and honk the horn to draw some zeds away, you've got plenty of road to travel on.

This spot is much like that as well

However I almost feel a little cheaty doing that. I like to try and test my skills with actually having to face the zombies.

It really depends on what you like. I often set up at the hardware store/food market building on main street in Westpoint, just because I like there to be danger. But the two apartments upstairs have plenty of room, there is a lot of built in storage, and I gather up dirt and plant crops on the roof of the adjacent post office by just hopping through the window next to the fridge in the hardware store apartment. I store all my farming goods there, food and other personal goods in the food market apartment, and construction and other stuff down below in the hardware store shelves. You have to stay alert, but I like it.

If you have the carpentry level to make stairs, you can drop your character into this location with sheet ropes.
You can make a sky bridge all the way to the river for an unlimited supply of fish. While at it, place a lot of sheet ropes and go back to the stairs you made with carpentry to destroy it and climb back on your fishing spot.
There's no way for the zombies to get to you. As the walls surrounding your base are indestructible. And you have an unlimited supply of water and food.
You can create a lot of farm patches for measure.
You can even choose to do trapping and foraging here.
Hell, trees will eventually grow. So you even have wood.

ALL WITHIN THE SAFETY OF THOSE INDESTRUCTIBLE FENCES!

Personally I love to set up in the little cabin by the lake just north-ish of Westpoint, or in one of three big houses nearby. I don't know, but the idea of a hidden far away base is most attractive to me. It may be boring to some people but it has some challenges to overcome, for example i Have to travel a while to get somewhere I can loot so a car is almost mandatory. I believe in future updates, when hunting will become a real thing, and we get NPC I'll try to establish a settlement in those cabins south-ish from Muldraugh, that's another cool place I like. Or maybe one day I'll try it with some people on multiplayer server.
