Hello survivors !
 
Have you plenty of unusable items in you safe-house trash container all-time? Have you 3 parts for your dreamed item , but no luck for last? Well I'm trying to solve this by creating recycling system, so you will be able to take usable materials from useless item and crate something you are looking for. 

And much more :) There is over 20 new items, new options like Relax with items, Suicide , special Throwing and Archery weapons , zombie Baits, handmade Explosives and other things...well this is still WIP 

 NOTE mod don't have custom sprites for weapons (most of them looks like knife) only icons.

Also don't expect any special effects :) 
 
 
Details:


About Recycling

  • Most of ingame items can be recycled into 5 types of materials.
  • Materials can be  packed into 10-packs for easier manipulation.
  • Recycling of small items -> piece of material,larger items -> material+few pieces or trash 
  • With 10 pieces of material,you can craft a larger one if you have right tools.It also works backwards.

10 x piece of material+ tool= 1 material, 1 material+tool =10 x piece of material,

About Crafting

  • most important item in mod - Toolbox , needed for most of recipes, can be used also as saw, can opener or hammer  for  crafting, but it's not working for building or barricading. So you  need take hammer from it, go build your structure and then put hammer  back to  toolbox.  
  • Crafting with Toolbox,Saw or Hammer produce noise,there is also chance to make some noise by accident when crafting with something else
  • If game character is unhappy he can fail at crafting.1% when little sad->66% when totally depressed

About Throwing


 
Throwing guide:

  • Hold right mouse button to charge throw force (you can check it on left side of screen while throwing)
  • Relase button to throw item or click left mouse button to cancel.Its little tricky but this way you can use spear as normal weapon to fight off one zombie and then throw it to another one.
  • For archery weapons : Charge force with holding right button and then click left button to shot as with normal firearms.It must be done this way to trigger shot animation.

  • You need aim to ground under target to hit,or at ground behind it

Bolas (6*Piece of Metal,Rope) no damage,but you can throw it around legs to immobilize zombie

Throwing Knife (Kitchen Knife,keep Toolbox and Basic Aerodynamics Schematics,)

Archery Weapons use throwing mechanics, so you can pick your used ammo

 About Baits


What can i say,they will attract zombies.Remember : You are the biggest bait around,if they see you some noise will not distract them.

Stone - not a real bait,but can be thrown to windows :D , unbreakable 
Mug - can be thrown ,destroyed on impact
Empty Bottle - can be thrown ,destroyed on impact
Phone - can be thrown ,destroyed on impact
Radio - can be thrown ,destroyed on impact
Handmade Alarm - (4*Electronics,Battery+ keep Basic Circuits Schematics and Toolbox),
right click to activate,it will start ringing  in about 30secs,cannot be thrown,for now -destroyed  after 
 
 


About Explosives

Right click on explosive and choose "Activate" to start countdown.grenade-type explosives are activated automatically. 

Explosion have several different effects:

  • Zone of Death - closest area -  Zeds are dead ,indoor area will he heavily damaged,doors destroyed 
  • Zone of Risk (Zone of Danger on picture) - area of strong blast wave knocking zeds down,most of them will never be able to walk again
  • Zone of Impact - usually double size of Zone of Danger, weak blast wave destroys windows
  • Fragments - flying from explosion through all zones ,killing everything and damaging structures 
  • Fire - not done yet

About tactics and things

 

  • Explosion is VERY NOISY and in result there will be more zombies there as before.I call it big bait,you can loot houses around in peace if you are able to activate it unnoticed and drag zombies from surround there.
  • Explosion is VERY DANGEROUS and can be easily last thing you will see.Depends on distance to explosion it causes death(sitting on it),several heavy injuries(ZD),1 heavy injury(ZR), you can also catch a nice hot fragment in relatively safe distance.This kind of wounds will not heal properly under bandages and you need to Clean and Suture Wound with First Aid Kid
  • Explosion DONT CARE ABOUT NUMBERS you better save your hardly made explosives to face hordes as hoping that you will hit that few zeds wandering around        FNGdoqc.jpg
  • Explosives HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS,every explosive have some pros and some cons.It can be massive weapon,or waste of material.
  • Handmade explosives need some fire source for activation and they CAN FAIL so you need to activate it again if it dont explode

:)  its debugging and testing tool and it will be removed in 1.0 version.Press 7,8, or 9 key to spawn high capacity magic container and right click on it to spawn related items

  • "9" Magic Toolbox - spawn materials, tools , building items
  • "8" Magic Bag - spawn baits and explosives
  • "7" Magic Wand - spawn handmade,throwing and archery weapons


About Other things 

  • Relax option -  if you have nothing else to do, you can use Yoyo,Playing Cards, Comb, Dice, Lipstick,Cube ,Razor, Mirror ,ToyBear  or Spiffo to relax and raise your mood a little bit .
  • Look for Schematics option - there are plenty of very useful items to make around, but sadly ordinary man lack this knowledge, but now he can find some schematics in Books and Magazines.There are some for electrical circuits,explosives,mechanics and aerodynamics (archery ammo& throwing weapons).
  • Clean and Suture Wound with Handmade First Aid Kit (20 uses)to greatly reduce chance of developing fake infection symptoms.If infection is real,whiskey will not help you.It can cure heavy injuries after lame use of explosives. Related recipes:
  •   Pour Whiskey - Whiskey Empty,Whiskey Full,result : Whiskey Half  
  •   Make First-Aid Kit - Thread=5,Needle,Ripped Bandages=20,Whiskey(half),Pop Bottle Empty,Plastic bag
  •   Refill First-Aid Kit - Depleted FA,Thread=5,Ripped Bandages=20,Whiskey(half),
  • Repair Weapons option (Baseball Bats, Axe ,Shovel,) with Duck Tape and 2*Wooden Stick , its heavier with lower durability as original,but still better as rolling pin.If you break it again,recycle it. 
  • Suicide option - if there is no other way for You,use Kitchen Knife,Rope,Shotgun or Pistol to end this.

Well I'm trying to solve this  by creating recycling system, so you will be able to take usable materials from useless  item and crate something  you are looking for.
 
Maybe  it looks like you will not need to leave your safe house soon, but recipes cost more as you get from recycling it (like if you get one piece of material from recycling of item, it will cost you 2 pieces to build it again). Also its very time-costly to recycle something and craft new thing, so its matter of choice if you will risk death from zombification or depression  :-|.
 
So in this mod:
 
You are able to recycle 5 basic material types:
 
                Item_ClothNET.jpgCloth - recycle cloth item 
                Item_LeatherNET.jpgLeather - recycle leather item with scissors
                Item_PlasticNET.jpgPlastic - recycle plastic item with scissors
                Item_MetalNET.jpgMetal - recycle metal item  with toolbox
                Item_ElectronicsNET.jpgElectronics - recycle electronic item with toolbox
You can make 10-packs from same materials  for easy  manipulation   
You can also recycle small  items or weapons too for
 
                Piece of Cloth - turn 10 pieces to cloth with toolbox 
                Piece of Leather - turn 10 pieces to Leather with toolbox
                Piece of Plastic - turn 10 pieces to Plastic with glue
                Piece of Metal - craft Nails
 
You can find or make  new ITEMS :
 
                Duck tape, Glue - can be found everywhere...for everything .
                
                Toolbox - can be found in crates and it's used for advanced crafting. U can also use it as saw, can opener or hammer  for  crafting, but it's not working for building or barricading. So you  need take hammer from it, go build your structure and then put hammer  back to  toolbox.  
               
                 Plastic tank - can be found in kitchens ,can store water.
                
                Leather jacket  andjeans - can be found in wardrobes. Not wearable for now.
                
                DVD player, Notebook,Mobile phone - rarely can be found in living areas.
              
                Handmade Axe -  good for chopping trees, or practice recycling. 
                                         Plank +2xMetal + 4 nails + keep toolbox
              
                Handmade Mace - deadly but quick to break
                                     Plank+ Nails+5xPiece of Metal+ Barbed Wire+ keep Toolbox                               
                Cloth bag - can be made from cloth, but its trash.
                Trash - its real trash, usable only for filling cloth bag (30xTrash)to make "sandbag" item.
 
Learn new RECIPES: "With right tools and will, everything can be made." 
 
                Dry wet Towels
 
                Use Cloth as Towel, Sheet or Tissue    
   
                Repair damaged melee weapon (Duck Tape + WoodenStick ) and you will get patched weapon (its heavier with  lower durability as original). You can repair damaged weapon  only once, if you break it again - recycle it. And it works only for real weapons not frying pans or handmades.
                Metal + keep toolbox = 5  nails / 2 door knob/2  Hinge / 2 Tent Pegs  (but craft time is horrible)
  
                Log + keep toolbox = Baseball
 
                WoodenStick +1xNails +Metal+ keep Toolbox=  Trowel   
 
                4xMetal Piece+ Leather +keep Toolbox= 4  belts 
 
                Plastic bag + Glue + keep Scissors = Duck Tape
 
                2xWire+10xNails=Barbed Wire
 
Not much recipes to craft  I know, but take it as worktable, it will grow later. Hmm....well worktable don't grow, but you know what I mean:

Known Bugs
-cant commit suicide when weapon is loaded,but no ammo in inventory
-some bugs when throwing too close to wall
-cant throw though open or destroyed doors,windows are fine
-throwing from second floor is broken
-item fly in wrong direction sometimes when player move (i call it new feature for now)
-update stuff error related to fire sometimes
-that damm fire dont work
-that damm sound stop playing when player move
 
 
No rights reserved...not at all. Feel free to build on it, but you better not.Its still WIP  so modifications will be probably broken after update.

Recycling? C'mon I'm the last man alive; I can leave plastic bags all over the ground and it won't matt... oh, not that definition.

 

Interesting; very interesting... I want to see where & how this goes.

 

Of course it'll change my entire play style, but in a good way.  I'll actually care about finding that 27th frying pan/roasting pan/whatever as I can scrap it for metal parts to make the danged trowel I can't find to save my life.

 

Probably not the game I'm on (already too far along for a real "game changing change" without confusing me) but may have to get it and activate it for my next character.

Nice update, thanks!  When i saw this at first awhile ago i was like, hmm  i dunno.  But after doing a runthrough with it on a few characters ive come to really enjoy what this adds to gameplay wise.

 

I know i had some error msg's in console in  v3, hopefully ya smashed em.  Its time to go chuck some spears!

I think most confusing on this mod is first post in this topic :D.I will rework it for next update.

 

To say it simple in this mod you take parts from one thing and build another.Sometimes you make noise while crafting,sometimes you get bonus and sometimes you screw things and you get trash instead of item.You can kill zombies with throwing spears, or throw items away to lure zombies there.Oh and you can kill yourself :).That's all.

I know i had some error msg's in console in  v3, hopefully ya smashed em. 

I fixed some errors,but i'm affraid you will found another ones here and there as this patch was stitched with hot needle and i tested only mechanics of throw.:(

Something that i noticed today on the 17 (0014) branch is this mod, recycling, is causing PZ to crash on loadup.  The reason being is in the mod.info file, you have it set as

 

id = Recycling

 

Because of the space between id, =,  and Recycling is there, its causing PZ to crash. Even if a person doesnt have the mod selected as one of the mods being loaded. Just change it to

 

id=Recycling

 

and all should work ok, atleast with PZ being loaded up.  I havent tested anything in game yet, took a few hours to track down, and confirm a few problems with the latest PZ branch.

 

Took me forever, in game, to finnaly find a workbench and now that i found one, im finding them all over the place, LOL. I contribute it to my great luck i have.  I havent had any other problems, atleast in last PZ branch. After i get to my new base later on tonight ill hopefully be able to work with this mod some more in game and see if i can break it, exspecialy with today's update of boxes!

Thanks thrandisher,you saved me plenty of time by solving this.I will upload new verion in a while :). And that spawn chance of items is quite random you know,once i didnt found a single duck tape for several days and then i had full backpack in a while.

Np. Because of it and DrHorribleMDPhD explination on how to make another mod compatable for the new modloader and my undying will to not play a game unmoded, i was able to figure it out semi easly, lol.

 

Speaking of backpacks... heh, Ok, i crafted one today finally, and to my dismay, i could only equip it on primary and offhand. I did not know if that was a bug, working as intended or user error on my part.

 

I havent tested out throwing things yet.  I spent most of tonight with building up a new base and trying to document some game bugs. Ill get to it soon tho!

 

great mod, i must say. dunno how i would survive without it.

 

Ohya, ill test later on today after i get a cat nap, but i think i was able to duplicate the tool box by having it in inventory, finding a hammer and then right clicking on hammer and putting it into a toolbox that already had a hammer in it.  I *think* i did that and duplicated it.  Ill try to do a mental note and test it later on.

     So I decided to update this to 0.6. There are still bugs there, but its still fun and i don't want to keep it for myself until final release :P.

I changed a lot of things so if you are playing 0.4 version,you better wait until story of your survivor ends and then start new map.

Also my friendly advice is to start some sandbox map,spawn couple of throwing items and explosives and practice or else your throw will miss and your hardened survivor gets heavy injuries from explosion :).

    Also i wrote new mod description so i hope it will be less "scary".Good for checking and reading in same time.It took me lot of time so i hope I'm done with that for some time. 

 

EDIT 0.6.1 update for PZ 2.9.9.19 ,but no longer work for 2.9.9.17 builds

sorry for bumping this old thread ,i just want to say this mod is no longer updated (you probably noticed that :P,but just to be sure my mod don't break someones game) .Right now I  don't have time for it and as PZ is still in development there is something broken after every update.I will probably continue once at least beta version of PZ will be released,as this was my first modding experience and i quite enjoyed it, but meanwhile all mod's resources are free to use if some modder need something,no credits needed.Well sounds are not mine so if you want to use them,give credit to guys noted in first post,they all have free license to use for non commercial uses.Cheers

you can raise spawn chance by your own,just open file Recycling.lua and find something like this:

table.insert(SuburbsDistributions["all"]["crate"].items, "Recycling.Toolbox" );    table.insert(SuburbsDistributions["all"]["crate"].items, 10);

Raise number 10 will raise spawn chance for toolbox in crates.You can also adjust spawn chances for other locations and items if you want.

 

 

EDIT I just  noticed DrHorribleMDPhD partialy updated mod for 25 version here,but throwing and explosives will be still more likely broken
