[Bug] Text Glitch, Need help

Question

Hey everyone. I just bought my friend this game but it's pretty unplayable for him right now.

His text glitches out, as has happened to other people in the past. Almost the same thing. Below is a checklist of the fixes we've tried.

  • Disabled multicore in options AND bMultithreadedRendering set to false
  • Turned off fullscreen, and enabled/disabled vsync
  • Tried compatibility mode, but couldn't join multiplayer server
  • Updated drivers
  • Disabled shaders AND DoubleSized textures options
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled game 3 times INCLUDING deleting users/user/Zomboid and steamapps/common/Project Zomboid folders
  • Disabled steam overlay in-game
  • Restarted Steam and computer

What the hell else can we do? We're running Hydrocraft but that shouldn't be an issue since it works for our other friends just fine. Even the vanilla game (no mods enabled/installed) glitched after a few minutes.

Only solution we have is disabling multicore and restarting the application (not just the game). If that doesn't work, manually downloading and installing the drivers for your GPU might be necessary.

Did you install anything else alongside Hydrocraft? The old model loader, for example, is unnecessary.

Otherwise my only guess is too many or too large textures are interfering with one another. What GPU does your friend have?

No old model loader. Just subbing to the mods on the workshop. I don't know his GPU and he's currently not available. And as I stated we already tried the multicore solution, and he did update drivers directly from the website. Is the games requirements really that intense? He runs any other video game perfectly fine.

EDIT: His GPU is a Radeon HIS R9 380 and he has 16GB of RAM in case that's important.

R9 380 looks quite modern, so I imagine it's not necessarily the problem.

Assuming Windows 10 64-bit, this should be the driver he needs: http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows+10+-+64

Sometimes the automated picker will leave the default Windows driver in place. It sometimes causes odd quirks. After installing that, he should restart his computer fully before launching the game.

Not much else I can suggest, though. If this doesn't work, it might be best to refund the game. Steam will do it so long as playtime is below 2 hours, no questions asked: http://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/

Really am sorry if this is the way it goes. Hopefully this is just a problem on AMD's end, or if not, other players will start reporting the same issue so we can track it down.
