About the shotguns, how about a short-stocked variation you could make by sawing off the stock? There would be advantages and drawbacks, for instance they would be lighter and faster to draw / take from a container, but with a loss of accuracy / more recoil.

Actually, seeing the sawn-off shotgun with a long stock made me wanna have the stock shortened, just like in Max Payne ^^

Edit : also, hell yeah, chainsaw would be great? If dismemberment is in, me want chainsaw! OP in CQC but very very noisy, to prevent any abusive use.

I'll have to check with the guys but I didn't model a silencer because, chances are, "vanilla" PZ won't have them. There is a mod though that adds silencers (http://undeniable.info/pz/SilencerMod.php :) ).

Lasers and iron sights haven't been taken out; I didn't model a version with those attachments because visually they wouldn't look a whole lot different whereas a red dot scope sits quite prominently on top.

Thank you for your answer :-D !

I remember have already see this mod in OTR subject a long time ago, it's awesome !

It can be used with new releases ?

Also, thank you for having shown me back this mod  !

Agree that chainsaw would be fantastic, make gaz can more needed also (add new use for this, not always used only for generator etc...)

Another thought I had while thinking about this: would the player character have different animations with guns depending on skill level? By this, I mean like a fumbling-like animation when loading, or maybe the character has a confused emote while firing at a low accuracy level. Perhaps I am getting my expectations too high, but it sounds cool.

That would be pretty cool for immersion.

That's the hope -- more animations means underlying systems can be better expressed to the player.

It's much harder to understand why you miss when you're still as a statue and perfectly lined up, facing down the horde. It makes sense why people have such difficulty with the current system because of that.

Like what?

All of those guns look similar enough to guns that were around in the 90s. Black/non-wood stock firearms aren't a post Y2K thing.

The M16A2 (what that assault rifle looks like) was made in the 80s.

And all of those handguns are too general to pinpoint. There is a M9 lookalike and the M9 was from the 80s as well.

None of the guns in the guns in the preview are off-timeline.

I dont understand why the M14 is in since I know itll be used by the military but which in reality it was taken off mainline service  in the 70s and only recently has been seen used as a marksman rifle in specialist units.  If they are slipping this in its either because the police dept was using them or the military sweeps in WP and Mul are special forces, not National Guard/Regulars?

Would you send just the National Guard to secure a plague that could wipe out the entire human race?

They aren't necessarily "assault rifles".  We won't know until they're released, but if they're semi-auto they're totally legal, and common, for civilian ownership.  The "M16" might actually be an AR15.  The M14 might be the civilian model.  It's pretty common that people screw up and call a gun an "assault rifle" because it superficially looks like one the military uses.

The M14 and similar version are also not uncommon to be civilian-owned.

Oh I know they aren't assault rifles, but I also know a farmer would have a normally have a 10 round magazine on it or a Mini-14 or a shotgun.  I just wanna know if we see them armed with them and liquidating city blocks like this.

You guys are forgetting that these were designed to be generalized. I doubt they are going to be concerned about specifics too much because the fact that it is generalized lets them get away with a lot of things.

Judging by the size of the magazine on the model one can assume that it is playing the role of an AR for the game. Looks like a pretty general classic M14 style weapon to me (the mini 14 is similar enough too).

@shark There are a few good gun locations ingame including a shooting range and gun shop. It's Kentucky, not Canada (and I am a resident of Canada), the gun culture would go far beyond 10 shot rifles and shotguns. It's place in the military would be irrelevant as there also appears to be a different modele for what "that military grade gun" could be, although I could be wrong on that - either way this is likely the one you would find first in the gun shops ingame.

Gameplay will always come first before realism here.

As others have said, it's actually a Ruger Mini-14 (probably more specifically an AC-556) which was pretty commonly used by police departments before the M4 was a thing in the '70s and '80s, so yeah, it'll probably be there.  But in reality, it's probably there because it's an assault rifle chambered to fire the same caliber as the M16 so there isn't multiple ammo types.  There aren't a lot of military/police rifles besides the Mini-14 and AR variants that fire 5.56 NATO that would commonly be found in the US, so it's really the only option there.

Will proper weapon holding animations be a thing now? Maybe reloading too?

I would hope so, but I would still be fine with a little bar for reloading, I'm just excited for this update!

Assault rifle 02 was loosely based on a Ruger mini 14 but as mentioned I modelled it to generally look like guns of a similar type so we could cover a few possibilities.

My thinking behind including a gun like this was what would be available to local Kentucky residents in 1993. The research i'd done lead me to believe police forces in the area would have access to the Ruger mini 14 as well as people privately owning them.

Now whether the model will actually represent something like a Ruger mini 14 in game is still been mulled over, but whatever it is will be distinctly different to assault rifle 01 which is meant to a more modern (1993 modern ;) ) assault rifle.

It's also worth noting that these aren't necessarily going be as prelevant as handguns and shotguns.

I love this community and how we can talk about this civilly.

I think it'd be nice to add a .22 caliber air gun, a lever action gun, a target pistol and other guns you'd find commonly because if we are gonna add full auto weapons we need a lot of fluff in the loot economy in order to balance them. Also I really don't think that's an AR15 because this is the 90s and the AR craze didn't exist back then like it did now. We can talk about this and that but for the sake of gameplay that every gun being semi auto or full would level hordes like nothing just look at the fantastic and overkill gun mod we have. The common sense reason we should get full auto guns is A) police stations. B) holding up a soldier/killing one/joins you. C) finding one at a military vehicle/site.

Man, I'm so glad to see the Wrench, Spanner and Machete there! I've been suggesting those for ages, Still, I'm a bit surprised that no Nightstick/Cop Club has been added yet. Also, what the hell's that gold-colored melee weapon next to the hammer supposed to be?

You know, when i saw it i thought it was a pizza tray

(Im also surprised no one mentioned anything like taping a flashlight onto your gun instead of a knife, to see better.)

I didn't know I wanted a bayonet until now. I remember watching the animations video with that little spear thing a few months(?) back and that looked like a really effective way to splat zombies.

Anyway, looks pretty awesome. I'm glad we'll be getting more variety in weapon and ammo types because it's a little too easy to stockpile ammo with the limited amount of calibers available currently even on very rare, IMO.

EDIT: if I had one criticism to level, and I do because I'm an incessant pedant, the pistol red dot sight is really anachronistic for 1993. red dot sites on pistols got their start in IPSC a few years down the road and even then it was the rifle sized cmore serendipity on a drilled and tapped mount, not something you want to lug around in a holster. The kind of red dot sight you have modeled was not even an imaginable thing in 1993.
