Verun
The farm in the north always was my favourite. Pro (in the pretty old version I last played):- next to no zombies- a well for infinite water supply- vast space to build (watchtowers, triple walls with walkways in the middle and barricades at the exterior, farming space, a middle building to build a path to as escape route)- as such: easy to defend/escape from Con:- very far from town without vehicles- have to check the perimeter of all the surrounding space every day before you go sleep- much possible work means much work My first version in February 2014 (there was no second level building back then, so no escape way and no watchtowers there yet). I'm a fan of the around-every-corner danger of West Point, and I love defending my base daily (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=543026975), so this place would bore me. xD Although I do understand that some people really like to go off the grid and away from the zombies in their attempts to survive, so I imagine that others would find that place to be perfect. I, however, like to remain within the action. Keeps things tense. Yes I'm the complete opposite because I roleplay my survival attempt even when in single player. So I'd do what I'd to in reality too: not stay in the "action" because action can mean death. So I usually shut myself off from the rest of the world as good as possible and try to be self sustaining. Staying in the "action" would just be super unrealistic from a roleplaying perspective

Did you wall off the back of the school with the gap in the building? it makes a nice farming area if you add dirt, and a great space for campfires and getting outdoors safely The farm in the north always was my favourite. Well, at least that was my experience. Take my base for example. While it isn't in West Point, 10 to 50+ zombies come near the base every day (I set the zombies on high). The XP I get for killing them is ridiculous, and it always reminds me that danger is nearby. I've gotten far better at fighting large groups of zombies because of this, too. Also free loot. I have like 7 or 9 axes and 3 sledgehammers as well as other useful things from the 4000 zombies in a two-block radius of that base. Idk, it's just preference. xD
Clubfoot
My fave has to be the tiny cabin in the woods (with the well) north of the logging company. Removes concerns over water, building materials, foraging land, and proximity to city centers. I rarely see more than a few stragglers up that way. syfy
in west point, i move downtown in the apartments above the dentist office, the bar, and the motelhttp://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.6541707623361458,0.16565298217455177,114.47545997288273 build a few bridges linking the buildings, sledgehamer a few staircases....garden on top of the police station.works out well. and walking across the bridges with zombies nearby will boost your sneaking ability real fast. in muldraugh i usually set up 2 bases, one at the tavern and one at the north farm in bedford, i love this group of houses. http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.5531055270080634,0.3384491817594521,114.47545997288286 nice location, fencing is easily completed, and having 3 bbq already there is a nice bonus. of course, one simply must have a lake house in order to survive in Style and that base has 2 lakes nearby

It's on the outskirts of Muldraugh so zombies are less of a threat, only four windows on the ground floor, and there's a bunch of warehouses and a trailer park nearby. Also if you follow the road you can get to a forest house in case you want to move there instead.
Tyken132
The downtown area of westpoint http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.6575647009300534,0.16884794868252162,114.47545997288273 Its a pain in the ass to clear at first but as soon as you knock out the stairs, you have tons to build with. Not to mention its fairly close to everything, including trees. https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1rdLDxQYQr8qFuUTZo0JZYqUnGTTcqU3NSbhfR1DwMiU/edit?usp=sharingIs a picture of what i've done with the place so far.Descriptions*Office buildings now apartments with a helipad for rescue ontop (Later converted into a farm) *Top of post office is now a mini farm with a bar *West office building is now a bizzare, complete with a doctors office, gunshop, and large trading area. Garden ontop. Potentially a gun range if food is ample. *Top of Cafe is convered to mass eating area, complete with a large outdoor kitchen and plenty of table space. *Watch tower planned for top of furniture store. *Haven't done anything with the apartments over the market, dinner, or the town hall, yet. Here is an unmodified map I made in google docs, incase you want to plan your own. Sadly a sound event triggered a stampede of zeds, who evicted me and trashed the place. Now I am inspired to try again. Lol

That was cool with me because I wanted to "shut myself off" as well. I can't quite do that yet, though, as my crops are a week away, I only have one axe, no skill books, etc. So, I'll be taking the long trek into town (although I still have two buildings at McCoy to go through) several times. The "village" above me is cleared and picked clean so I'm curious as to if/when zeds will move back in.

Dr_Cox1911
You can get water from lakes and rivers now, but you need to cook or desinfect it with a little bit of bleach to drink it. I don´t know though if it´s somehow limited. Main plus for water is fishing IMHO.
PlasticandRage
I like the upstairs of the West Point high school a lot. It's a lot harder to do by yourself in the newer builds, but what I'd done in the past was use the break room as a bedroom/kitchen, then the classroom next door as storage/medical, and the lockers outside as well as the storage room at the end of the hall there as weapons and construction materials storage. Then I'd build a series of log wall barriers above the stairs at the end of the long upstairs hallway, another downstairs just beyond the storage rooms, and another just before the cafeteria in the hallway, incorporating the library, and the offices into my base, and just boarding all the windows and doors. Then upstairs I'd take down one of the walls of the classroom next to the breakroom for roof access, where I'd make my farm and water catchers, hang sheet ropes for the only access, and, if I survived long enough, a second structure on the higher roof with a bed/tent inside it for safer sleeping arrangements. ^plus it's close enough to the river for fishing trips. syfy
Survivor1986
Well the best Base is my Treehouse in the wild, build north beyond the bridge from muldraugh. Far enough away from the hordes, close enough for a trip to the stores. The only way inside is though a sheet rope and it is build inside a dense wood, so no zombie crowds spawning and its surrounded by water. Its perfect. I just broke both my legs 20 times building it. It has everything a survivalist needs; Indoor fireplace, Bed and atmospheric stuff. Besides the 8 windows, it also got a roofed balcony around it. It can only be spot if you stand 10 grids before it. My Character build needs less food and water so i can prepare for winter easily. Guess im dying of old age there blays
Strats
I find that for the first 100 days of the game, the south Muldraugh tavern makes a relatively zed-free area. However, I have found that the zombies tend to migrate south more frequently as erosion kicks in. The tavern has the advantage of being both near loot-rich areas and having access to forageable zones. The warehouses out of town near Muldraugh also have their perks: they are isolated, have a lot of wood, and zombies rarely come there; however, there is little access to the town, meaning food runs will be long and tedious. McCoy's can be a nice balance between the two previous, but helicopters in the early game could spell your doom. Those are my favorites at the moment. squishward_tennisballs

Only thing that eventually brought me away from it was the lack of a cooking appliance. I started using the double warehouse complex just north of it instead, and it actually ended up becoming one of my favorites. I'd build a walkway from the small second floor catwalk in the 2 story warehouse, that raps around to where the windows are, then build a walkway outside from those windows to the roof of the warehouse next door. I started out just living there, but then I got really fancy and built my farm on the roof of that warehouse, and another stairwell leading up to a third story walkway that connected to the roof of the original warehouse where I had my living structure. Eventually walled off the area between them too. That place was cool. I woke up in the middle of the night one night to find it mysteriously on fire though. Never did figure out what caused that. The power grid had been down for weeks, and my cook fire was on ground level between the buildings.
Abortionism
So, while making a run from base (currently set up at McCoy logging co, though its starting to get a little populated) I thought that building between Cortman Medical and the Convenience store to the left might actually be a good spot. Ideally, in the alleyway, walling them off and building sheet rope entrance/exits.http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.40636558466312955,0.22909510038420355,269.45509056288125Can farm along the small verge, or in more places if you bring dirt. Lots of houses around to scavenge, and medical supplies nearby if needed. Plus, unbreakable walls are a massive bonus, as well as only needing to build a relatively small section of wall before it's secure.

All you need to do is wall off the area behind the bank, build a wall to the chain linked fence and close off the back entrance. I had the fortress built in 5 days in one game, but I screwed up and got greed killing a small horde of zombies that appeared from a helicopter and got bit before I could actually use it. PlasticandRage
What are the best bases on community maps? Right now I'm building here: http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.5239600782437467,0.35974273181632976,164.84466236095113for some reason my links not working unless you click the bedford overlay yourself. Anyway, those are both 7 story buildings with roof access, so I'm building a bridge between the roofs, and then I'm going to be building my own structure on the bridge. Only problem with it is, I'm a bit nervous about trying an 8 story sheet rope for access. Here's my progress with it: http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb417/JedB2/PZ%20Roof%20Base_zpsysslzgfd.jpgObviously I still have a lot of work to do, but I think it's going to be pretty awesome when its done. Thinking about maybe adding a 4x4 tower underneath it, with maybe 2 story sheet ropes between platforms all the way up, as opposed to one long 8 story sheet rope, just in case something goes wrong when I'm going up and down, so that instead of just falling 8 stories to my death, I just break a leg and can deal with it. I'm not sure yet. Or maybe instead of all that extra work I'll create an alternate test character and run to one of those buildings and just try an 8 story sheet rope and see how it goes. If I get a sheet rope hanging, then I can use the first couple stories of each building as barricades, and just wall everything off really good, and I'll be totally secluded up there. I could even just take out stairwells on each side, and there'd literally be no way zeds could get up to me up there. Have to find a sledgehammer first though. It's the only tool I still haven't found in this playthrough. I think this place has a lot of potential too, although I haven't tried it yet myself.http://pzmap.crash-override.net/#0.5542166891439904,0.34482640295254907,158.99369440678157
