Just imagine the middle of the night, dark as a monkey's ass, then suddenly, a lightning strike comes in and flashes a horde in the distance. That would be both awesome and terrifying! I swore I saw a flash of light accompanying thunder in the build thunder and lightning were introduced and were more common. Maybe I'm dreaming but shows how much attention I pay. If it's dark outside and lightning flashes nearby, for a brief moment it can be almost like daylight. Would be a nice atmospheric touch. Also sounds need to be harder to localize and not carry as far during a storm. As far as I can tell other sounds have no impact on zombie awareness, they seem to notice you sneaking by even if there other sounds that would overpower light footsteps, like storms and helicopters and so forth.
