Settling offshore

Once I've read the safest place to be during a zombie apocalypse is an offshore platform.

Unless zombies recently learned to swim, this could be an interesting option. I believe the PZ map contains a dock. Dock means sea. I don't expect to be any islands out there, at least not right now. But imagine if we could build drafts (out of planks, nails, ropes, sticks and tarp), then we could put ourselves to safety for good (while still having to go back to the land every now and then).

That dock is on the Ohio River, not the sea.

Also, with the current possibilities, having a platform on water would make players immune to zombies since farming can be done on any rooftop or platform provided one has a bag of dirt, water is a non issue as long as one has a way to boil it etc.

That would take zombies out of zombie game.

I agree with you. This suggestion is pretty debatable. I think it would definitly be best if we had to build the base out of scrap, then it would take a lot of time and ressources, making it a particularly tough challenge. In the end, it could be kind of a reward, but make the game less of a thrill.

But then a change of weather could make things tougher. Like if the river freezes during the winter, you won't want to be stuck in your base without the ability to farm. And what if the water level decreases after a few months? There should always be a threat to safety.

I would say yes.

The point of it making players imune to zombies is nonsense.

Players can make sturdy walls already. Theres cement in the game and you can make (probably) cement walls.

Zombies would not be able to destroy those unless we are talking about a 100+ zombie horde at the door and even then only if the wall is not too thick and poorly constructed.

The point is to allow player a chalenge. No matter how difficult it will be, if the player succed reward him for that. Dont just nerf the possibility because someone managed to defeat the zombies (at least partially since the guy would still need to leave his fortress to scavenge food and materials)

Just my two cents

As I think of the river, I recall the kind of draft you can climb onto when you're swimming. This could be a kind of off shore platform, but without the possibility to settle down because of the lack of space. The interest of it would be to keep ourselves safe from the zombies for a short amount of time. Sure we can do the same with a barricade, this is just a different approach. Another realistic element you could make survivalistic use of. Sit down and rest, heal and feed yourself before heading back to the danger zone.

I think it would be great if zombies were underwater sometimes, like in the BOOK World War Z, people die from zombies that pull them under water.

Also in the book, it talks about zombies being able to climb anchors at the bottom of the water.

Can you imagine walking in a pond of water and having to beat off a zombie grabbing onto your leg? (kind of like a crawler in terms of animation/movement).

To think of it, I have rarely ever seen zombies venturing underwater. Pirates of the Carribean is pretty much the only exemple I can think of. (by the way, if zombies are dead then that means they don't breath anymore. How does the body react to water pressure when there's no air running through? That's something to consider).

I stand corrected.

This could be the best base to date. It would take either a piece an offshore piece of land, or a pre-made platform that i have found here we would have to build it from scrap (which could make it the ultimate challenge perhaps, the Holy Grail of PZ bases).

You are right. Had the same problem and this stuff worked perfectly. So, guys use it and don't be afraid
