I don't want to make glass or anything. I want to make something like shutters etc. So a barricaded window I can open they could act like Curtin's.

If I can make a door I can make a door in a window...

This could be weaker than a normally barricaded window but a lot better than glass.

Actually it would be stronger since most wooden windows open outward and are lock from the inside with a wooden plank or even an iron bar.

 

So outsiders (zombies or not) would have a much more difficult time to break in.

I agree but I was just thinking of balancing it out a bit trying to make them different and not too good so you have a choice between them.

The problem is that some designs are by nature better than others. There's no way to balance these things

Maybe even salvaging iron bars and reusing them?

Makeshift iron bars- pipe/crowbar x2 + twine/sheet?

the balance could be that they act more like a hatch. when opened they can be seen though but act like an open window. when its closed its like looking though trees, only slight sight. plus it would be tougher for zombies to break as well.
