Perks and traits: Non-smoker and Smoker

I'd like to suggest some perks and traits (or, maybe, habits):

1. Non-smoker. Cost: 0 (it has both costs and benefits). Benefit: +30% more stamina and some bonus to healing rate (yes, smoking affects the whole body, damaging blood microcirculation and reducing body regenerative capacity). Cost: doesn't smoke, can't reduce stress with cigarettes. Trying to smoke increases stress.

2. Heavy smoker. Cost; 0. Benefit: cigarettes sometimes reduce pain, +100% positive effect of cigarettes. Cost: -30% stamina, some penalty to healing rate, need at least 1 cigarette a day (but eventually can become a "usual" character if doesn't smoke for a loooong time).

Why? Being a non-smoker means your heart and lungs are a lot healthier. Also, smokers always have worse outcomes in hospitals, because smoking affects not only heart and lings, but microcirculatory vessels all over the body + it actually slowly poisons every cell.

No need for "non-smoker trait". Just keep to the "Heavy Smoker" one with all it's benefits and negativity + add that negative side to healing + stamina. Keep the trait as negative.

All non-smokers in real life don't magically heal "faster", it's the smokers who "heal slower" ;)

In the game a non-smoker also has his "negative" trait -- being unable to use cigarettes for stress-reduction. Okay, a non-smoker could be a default one, then smoker should have less stamina and regen, and heavy smoker should have even more penalties.

No, there is no need for multiple traits regarding "smoker". A "heavy smoker" will suffice. Subtlety.

But then everyone else will remain casual smokers (every survivor in the game apparently smokes). In real life if a non-smoker tries to smoke a cigarette, it will not reduce his stress, it could even make him vomit.

I think, pllayer should be given a choise wheter to be a smoker or not. Being a smoker allows using cigarettes to reduce stress, but at the cost of decreased stamina and regeneration. Being a non-smoker (or not being a smoker, if you prefer) makes cigarettes useless of slightly harmfuk, but you'll have full stamin and regen.

I might say ditch the non-smoker perk and keep the heavy smoker as a negative trait only. Same as the Hearty Appetite trait, you need to smoke more often or you will be stressed easily.

We have a Light Eater perk, by the way.

Because food\hunger plays a major role in this game. Even tho, there is no such thing as "light smoker" really. A "heavy smoker" trait would cover both the casual smoker and heavy smoker, without going further and breaking those into categories.

Neither of these should be added. Traits are meant to be characteristics of the person, not habits. This is already mostly going to be accomplished in game. Once addiction is in it will completely cover the heavy smoker stuff, and as has been said there's no need whatsoever for a nonsmoker perk. That would be like having a normal eyesight perk.

Well, after 10-15 years of smoking a pack or two per day people have a lot more cardiac and pulmonary problems than those who smoked a couple of cigs every other day.

Either way smoking is bad for your overall health and unless PZ is aiming for that level of depth, one level of smoking is fine.
