How do cook things after power shut off?

One of the things I don't get about the cooking skill is that after the power shut off the skill becomes completely useless so why would you level up a skill that would do you no good unless there is still away to cook things even after stoves have become useless.

You can make a campfire that allow you to cook once the power turns off , it also allows you to keep warm during the winter, but zombies are drawn closer to the light and usual stuff

Best to make a campfire inside sealed walls so the light doesn't travel.

Does the cooking skill actually give you any benefits right now though? You currently get experience in cooking for throwing lots of meat into an oven and walking away (Experience even though it burns and you don't collect it afterwards). Without changing the current system the skill itself has no use really.

Well, that won't be quite as good an idea once fire is back in the game.

 

According to the wiki right now all the cooking skill does is reduce the likliehood of burning items.  Apparently most things take almost as long to burn as they do to cook, so it seems unlikely this would happen unless you're really not paying attention.

Yes from the way I understand it your cooking skill makes cooked foods more satisfying.

As of 2.9.9.16 you dont seem to accumulate any experience in cooking when using a campfire to prepare meals. Anyone else getting the same result?

Cooking skill is useless at the moment because you don't have to care about "boredomness" and "unhappyness" plus it has no effect to the hunger reduction of food. Right?

Pretty much nail on the head there, although there seems to be a window during the 'cooked' phase where it may skip straight to burnt, although I haven't tested enough samples to get that result more than once (accounting for insta-failures for time acceleration)

You can find BBQs and other kind of fire-based cooking tools around houses garden. They are in the big open, but still work...

Might as well do a couple of jogs around while looking at the cooking when a couple of zombies comes around or bash them out if you got the skill/exp for it. (You know, the Zombieland trick of running around, continue, running around again as they come closer, etc.) XD

Yes, it does, if you are interested in invreasing food value rather than in grinding XP.

No, they don't, I tried it in 2.9.9.10. A woodstove in a remote cabin and BBQs don't have a 'turn on' option anymore =((
