Translation organization

Recommended Posts

It would be nice to have some proof reading and generally a somewhat smoother and more decentralized and transparent workflow given the forums software. Incidentally, RJ would be less drowned with translation mails :).

EDIT: removed french/source threads links. Are now merged within this thread (2 next posts)

Threads hierarchy

Forums
--- Translation (section)
------ Organization (thread, pinned)
------ Source (thread, pinned) (DIFFERENT from English translation even though basically the same WHEN sync.)
------ English (thread)
------ Esperanto (thread)

Work flow
- The person who creates the target language thread (caretaker) is responsible (along with sneaky mods ?) for updating the target language OP with reference translation source & notes.

- Gods are the persons in charge of synchronizing forums translations with game source files. Gods are FOLLOWING the Source thread. God <=> RobertJohnson as of now.

- contributors are persons following a target language thread (tightly or not).

- Policemen have moderating rights, ie can delete/edit whatever post. Gods are also Policemen.

- Caretakers (and ONLY them) post a PUBLIC update message in Source thread when an update is made to a translation target language. Caretakers are FOLLOWING the Source thread.

- God updates source thread OP with new source files, updated translation keys, new keys, ...). Then God posts a message on Source thread to notify of these changes

- Caretakers echo God's notifications in their respective target language thread (repost, update of files)

- Caretaker only add a section to the OP if it is actually translated

- Exhausted Caretakers may offer their resignation in their respective thread. The replacing caretaker creates a copy of the thread, and Policemen delete the old thread afterwards and put former caretakers out of their misery.

I do like the idea of proof reading but couldnt it all be done on the one thread so the whole general discussion isnt taken up by translation threads?

It could but we're talking a lot of language specific discussions mixing together, plus notifications of updates between devs & translators. In the long run i still think it's less confusing & more efficient to have several different threads, provided people try and abide to ceertain rules.

Anyway the final word will likely come from RobertJohnson/the devs, according to what is more convenient for him.

EDIT: I forgot an important reason for keeping threads separated : if you 'FOLLOW THIS TOPIC' then you'd get automatic notifications if updates are made within said thread. But if everything is mixed up then you'll get notifications for Chinese translations updates even if you don't speak Chinese, or Source updates even if you're not in charge of updating game files or OP reference translations. Then again it requires some sort of discipline from users, like not posting sth like "I ate nice frogs today, a bit overcooked but still fine".

EDIT2: but it may be like killing a fly with a baseball bat, dunno.

1.Making threads is something the translators have to do themselves.

2. [*spoiler] [*/spoiler] without the * it will work

3. I don't know, there isn't really a special place, for now.

And lastly: Good morning :)

We'll likely be moving this stuff to their own section soon.

Good to know...

1. idem

2. more generally, when you want to 'imitate' the formatting of a post or part of it, you can quote it, then toggle source edition button (top-left corner of this WYSIWYG editor) and copy/paste the content you're interested in.

There's also the special BBCode button (3rd button from top-left corner) with all special tags you can use.

3. i think german translation status is completed (100%) atm : http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/1255-help-us-the-official-pz-translation/ . Still, the way to go for now is to PM RobertJohnson OR post in above thread.

Pinned it :)

Also, if you want a special Contributors name (like Romain "RJ" Dron or something), write it in the Contributors spoiler, because I'll only add the name which are inside this spoiler :)

And don't hesitate to PM me when a translation is finished, is quite hard to follow this forum because everyone write in his own language :D

  • 1 month later...

Hello everyone.

I hope I'm writing in the right thread. I just can't contact the caretaker of the Italian translation thread, he doesn't even read MPs since a few days. I'd like to update that translation before it's put in a new PZ version because it's quite erroneous, both in grammar and concepts.

If someone could tell me what to do I'll be grateful :)

Bye!

Hey,

Well, just gimme the files when it's done, I'll add them to the OP and you in the contributors, I'll contact the Italian guy (i *think* i have him on Skype... :P).

If we really can't have news I'll give you the Italian OP :)

Thank you :)

I'll finish it in a day or two, then i'll send it you using PM right?
