CzarUltra
Hey guys. Me and some friends of mine are taking on the project of creating a map of my hometown, Devils Lake North Dakota. It's quite a bit larger than Muldruagh (pop ≈ 1000) with a population of roughly 7,100. Needless to say, that'll make this map huge in game. Seriously, I lost count of how many buildings there are in just a couple blocks radius of the college. But that's not gonna deter me; I have a lot of free time now. I'm also curious to whether or not there is a limit. UPDATE 12/2: Just created the initial landscape file, am tediously tracing all the roads.UPDATE 12/3: decided to Test getting the Terrain files to import; this is pretty damn exciting-- I'm unsure if the scale is perfect or not... but I'm gonna keep going. 12/6/2014: Well as it turned out the roads I did earlier were made with lines that had anti-aliasing enabled (paint.net smoothed out the lines with lighter shades of the color I had selected). Unfortunately that meant a lot of the colors for the .bmp were incompatible. So I had to redo them. Here's a tip when editing your terrain file: ALWAYS CHECK TO SEE IF ANTI-ALIASING IS DISABLED. Anyway, here's where I am on the roads-- not even close hahaha Also: Could a mod please move this to WIP for me please? Some Clever Username
I want to do something like this too! Too bad I suck at modding and other stuff.

Z3759xy
Yes, that sounds Ok to me(sorry, I'm no expert), but you can also use Mapzoid and afterwards TileZed to add/remove a little bit of terrain.33x33 cell's is huge, CzarUltra. Why not start with something smaller first?
Suomiboi
I highly agree with Z3759xy. A 33x33 map is 1089 cells altogether and if you put roughly 50 buildings per cell, which is quite little for a city, You'll need 54450 buildings and with the speed of 20 buildings a day (I did that with a help from a interiors guy) you're going to take 2722 days which is 7 years... TL;DR: It's huge. EDIT: the 20 per day was on a good day... Atoxwarrior and Z3759xy

I think I will split the map up and release it in portions eventually making a whole map. EDIT: Until then I will work on the Devils Lake Map on the side while I find a suitable small town to recreate.
