  1. Build 42 is coming, and at the time of writing the latest Thurstoid, Snack Attack has opened our eyes to some exciting new possibilities that will come with the Crafting Overhaul. So I would like us to have this space to discuss how the modding scene could implement the so called "Machine Scripting System" in ways that stray away from traditional crafting stations. Like the Vending Machines that are coming to the vanilla game. I would like to number some characteristics that the machines seem will able to get with the information we've been given. The machines can be multiple tiles in size They can make the character perform different animations depending of the process taking place Could make your character execute an animation by pressing a button, or successfully achieving something when using them Transformation/Interchange of an Item for a different one Buttons and input of codes to get the desired outcome Storing items inside of them (an inventory) Processing a transaction over a lapse of time Having different pieces than can be taken out of them, repaired, or upgraded Being able to navigate through different sections, and display custom pictures and animations Having designated slots for items We can interact with them using specific Keys to unlock certain sections The machines will be able to connect with one another in some way Probably will have the capacity to play specific sounds upon completion of something or when pressing a button The Machine Interface will likely be able to be used by Items as well I will now mention some general ideas of ways to use the system based of what we know of it so far: Keypads and anything that uses a numerical combination to produce an outcome. Containers with a limited amount of slots for placing items in then. Tiles from which you can take pieces without dissembling them. Segmented Containers, a single container being able to have different inventories, each of which could be individually locked by a key or other item. Containers that display a special graphical theme. Navigation inside containers, they could have a welcome screen, and submenus. Containers with hidden compartments, only accesible by placing a specific item in a slot, or by pushing a secret button. Puzzles that require you to find a certain item or to press buttons in a specific order, with different outcomes. Interactive displays, (rearrange the order of pictures in a board, or change the priority of a list written in wooden planks perhaps?) Tiles than can show pictures, not unlike the way items can at the moment, but also animations. Minigames perhaps? (I'm sure they have been contemplated). Does anything in particular come to your mind now?
  2. Hey there, everyone! First time poster here. I've been working on a tiny physics puzzle game (two thirds response time, one third brain teaser) for a while now and wanted to hear everyone's thoughts. Here's how it goes: you swing your paddle left and right in order to push the pieces towards the evacuation shafts, gaining some of that precious little time before the play area inevitably spills and it's game over. There are power-ups you can collect, and many other parameters you can tweak. And, of course, there's multiplayer, but only locally for now. Hope you'll give it a try. You can now get the full game on itch.io: https://mechanicalink.itch.io/reaction

  7. Hi everyone, I want to introduce you my first serious project, which is also my first serious video game, and my first game made with the framework LibGDX ! But whatever... ladies & gentlemen here's Shine ! General InformationsName : ShinePlateforms : Android & iOSShort description : Shine is a free puzzle game based on light and colors which is going to triturate your meninges ! A one-of-a-kind puzzle game that will take you for an unforgettable travel in space !Progress : AlphaEstimated Time of Arrival : Q1 2015But before going further, let me introduce myself. About me Who are you ? My name is Mickael and I'm 23 years old. I passed my Higher National Diploma last year, and I just passed my last exam this year, in June. I discovered programming in August of 2011, just before starting my HND. Why a video game ? Everything has started when I discovered libGDX. I played a bit with the framework itself, with Box2D, then with OpenGL, shaders etc. Gradually I started using tools related to video games, althought I was not attracted by this kind of programming at first. Eventually, all this gave me the will to make a video game for mobile phones, a domain I was familiar with cause I had already published 2 Android applications at this time. Game's core concepts In parallel with my studies, I thus tried to find an idea for a video game with an innovative concept. Because I wanted to be able to finish it, I wanted something that I could do without much difficulties with my current knowledge. So forget about 3D So the idea was born of a 2D puzzle game containing 2 basic element types :Emitters : Elements that send light (represented by a ray going in one of the 4 directions)Receivers : Elements that need light for the level to be completedEach one of these elements has its own color. It means that a red emitter will send a red ray. Similarly, a blue receiver will need to receive a blue ray for the level to be completed. Each level is displayed as a grid, with several elements dispatched on it. You can move emitters, but you can't turn them. Receivers can't be moved nor turned. All the elements needed to resolve the level are on the grid. You can't add any element by yourself. But because images are way better than words, here's a nice infographic made by our awesome graphic designer that sums everything up The game will contain 10 worlds, each one of them containing 30 levels with a growing difficulty. This means that, at the end, there'll be 300 levels, which is not bad Throughout your progression in the game, new game concepts and new elements will be introduced to help you cope against the growing difficulty, so that you won't get bored The universe Given the fact that the game is partially based on the operation of some "natural" phenomena (light propagation, color mixing...), I wanted graphic and sound environnements that would enhance these elements. As you would have probably guessed, I thought about something in space, like an interstellar travel. Each of the 10 worlds would then be a planet. These planets could be made only of the natural elements that are familiar to us (crystals, volcanoes...) or mixed with some fictitious elements. Something very sci-fi actually So here's what the 1st world will probably look like (no elements) ! Where it gets interesting for the player is that it means different graphics, sounds and musics for each world, in addition to the new elements. Thus an almost completely new experience each time ! I'm not looking to tell a story through this travel. The only goal being to offer a unique and rousing experience. Like if it could be a way to espace from the daily life, which is sometimes a bit monotonous. The team We are currently 3 to work on the game on our free time :Flawyte : DeveloperChak : Graphic DesignerBenjamin : Sound DesignerProgress You can like us on Facebook if you want to be regularly informed about the progress. The mechanics part is now done, and a few people occasionally play the game to spot bugs and give us feedback. I "only" have to reproduce what the graphics designer has drawed (elements, environnements...) in the game once we're almost sure it won't changed further. We haven't planned to take addional testers for the moment, but if you're interested in being part of the adventure feel free to get in touch Apart from all the progress of the game itself, we will definitely need translators once closer to the release date. So if you speak a foreign language (other than french), feel free to send me a message ! Every person that will have been involved in the game's making will be thanked in the game's credits Let me know if you have remarks, suggestions, questions or whatever else ! 11. Hi! My name is McCartney, I've been working on my game Sneak Mouse. It was inspired by the game red-light green-light, but with a twist. You must navigate through mazes and solve puzzles all while trying not to be caught! Game Bio: Sneak Mouse is an original game with rules similar to red-light green-light. You take the role of a plump little mouse on a mission to get its cheese. You must navigate through over 100 unique mazes to reach your goal. Oh, and don't get caught! While you're moving through mazes the bad kittie will be trying to catch you. The cat turns around randomly and if you get caught moving, the game is over. Each level gets progressively more and more challenging. The cat will turn faster, and the mazes will become more difficult. There will also be a time limit, so you can challenge yourself and see how fast you can finish! Trailer/Kickstarter Campaign Yes it is on Kickstarter! I need the funding for the pro version of Game Maker so that I can finish the game. (Since they limit.... a lot in the free version) Link here if you want to check it out: http://www.kickstart...use-an-ios-game Demo: https://www.dropbox....ouse demo22.exe You can only move while the cat is not looking, otherwise it's game over. Arrow Keys = move click "Level Select" to start level click "title screen" to go back to beginning I'd also like feedback on the game! It is very important to me :} EDIT: Playable demo can be found here. Be sure to check the text file for instructions on how to play the game. http://bit.ly/SneakM
