  1. Your eyes open as you hear the ringing of your alarm clock. It takes a second for your eyes to adjust to the red numbers blinking. You reach over to shut it off. *6:15 AM*... *6:16 AM* Sighing, you roll out of bed and walk into your bathroom. As you do your morning activities, you try to remember what day it is. It's a Monday so you have to get to the school early to set up your lesson plan. You work as a History teacher for the local high school. After getting dressed and eating breakfast, you start driving to the school. There seems to be a lot less cars driving around than usual. Pulling into an almost empty parking lot, you remember watching the news last night and seeing that there was a flu going around pretty bad. Not thinking much of it, you enter the school. You see Mrs. Kennedy, the attendance receptionist. She buzzes you in once she notices you. "Good Morning Mr. Parker, how are you?" she asks in a low voice. It's odd... she's sweating profusely even though the building is air conditioned. She looks terrible. Her eyes are droopy and she looks out of it. "I'm good Mrs. Kennedy, you don't look very good. Are you okay?" You ask. "Oh it's nothing I can't handle. I haven't been sick in forever! My husband got the flu thats been going around and he must've gave it to me..." She laughs nervously. You notice a bandage on her shoulder. "Are you sure you're okay?" She looks at you, "Yes Ryan... I'm fine." Her voice trails as if she was losing consciousness. Interrupting you as you're about to reply, there is a knock on the glass door behind you. It's Kyle and his brother Will. You know them because Kyle and Will are your neighbors. They live across the street and were very welcoming when you moved in a few months ago. You reach over and open the door for them. "Mr. Parker... Did you notice anything strange on your way over? Will swears he saw a woman banging on your door this morning." "It's true Mr. Parker, the woman was banging on your door. Eventually she stopped and stumbled away." Will says. "I don't know--" You say before being cut off. The TV in the room blasts on with an alert. The following is said, "Attention. Attention. Widespread panic is affecting the following areas due to the recent flu outbreak: Erie... Warren... Crawford... Mercer and Forest. Stay indoors. It's not safe to be outdoors. Do not come into contact with anyone known to have the flu. If you or a love one is experiencing flu like symptoms you must quarantine them or yourself. It is spread via germs and pathogens. Repeat... Stay away from anyone who is known to have the flu. People affected by the flu turn violent after only a couple of hours. Stay--" The reporter stops speaking after a crash is heard behind the camera. The reporter falls over in his chair backing up. Screams fill the studio and the last thing you hear before the broadcast being shut off is the reporter yelling, "GOD NO!". A crash erupts behind Kyle and Will--- a body flings through the glass and lands onto the floor outside of the secondary glass you, Mrs. Kennedy, Will and Kyle are in. The man twists his body and gets up. He's hunched over and you notice that it's Mr. Riley, the school's principal. His dress shirt is ripped from the glass and blood covers him. You notice teeth marks on his cheek. He lunges forward and bangs against the glass, cracking it. A few more bangs and he'll get through. Before you can decide what to do, Mrs. Kennedy falls from her chair and lets out a groan. The school's resource officer, Officer Antoine comes running through the adjacent hallway to the room you are in. He's a large man with salt and pepper hair and a salt and pepper beard. "What the hell is going on in here?" Antoine shouts. The glass breaks and Mr. Riley falls to the ground again. Antoine draws his weapon. Mr. Riley gets up and stumbles toward Will. "Mr. Riley, I'm warning you stop or I'll be forced to shoot!" Antoine shouts. Antoine slams the hammer and lets out two shots that hit Mr. Riley directly in the chest. The thunderous gunshots ring your ears for a second, but you manage to turn to look at Mr. Riley. To your amazement, he only stumbles backwards. He quickly lunges forward again, tackling Will to the ground. Kyle grabs a nearby fire extinguisher and slams it over Mr. Riley's back. "Get off of him!" Kyle shouts. You look over to see Antoine hanging over the receptionist desk with his hands at Mrs. Kennedy's neck. Her teeth snapping together with saliva falling from her mouth. You look at Mr. Riley on the ground, his hands grasping onto Will's hoodie, pulling him toward him. Kyle cocks the fire extinguisher back and prepares to slam it down onto Mr. Riley. Out of your peripheral vision, you notice Antoine's gun laying at your feet. You pick it up. What do you do? A. Shoot Mrs. Kennedy. B. Shoot Mr. Riley. C. Run through the broken glass, pulling Kyle along with you. --- Name: Ryan Parker HP: 100/100 Fatigue: None Profession: History Teacher Inventory: 9mm Beretta (?/0), Wallet, Keys.
  2. As you slowly wake, your brain focuses enough to ask for a moment, 'where am I?' But, banishing the morning's first thought, the gentle swirling of the current outside and the comfortable pitch black remind you that you're safe in your cot. You fumble for a moment in the inky darkness before finding the breaker and flipping it. With a quiet 'whoosh,' water flows into the now-unlocked turbine outside and the globe on the ceiling slowly flickers into life, lighting your small room in its warm glow. Outside, nearby fish dart swiftly away from the sudden light (often spelling danger at this depth), but quickly grow accustomed and go back to their daily troubles. You watch them dart about for a moment, hoping your fuzzy mind will have a few more moments of respite before the troubles of the day come flooding in. It's to no avail, though, so you run your hands through your hair, grit your teeth, and stand up. For a moment you're very dizzy, and your head pounds as if you're hungover. But yesterday was just a normal day in the Bathydome, no reason for you to feel sick. You grab the mirror above your small dresser with both hands and stabilize yourself. Brushing your hair out of your face, you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror. 1) Looking into it, you see your face, the face of: A) Dane, the engineer. As an engineer in the Bathydome, you are responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility. You make sure the power stays on and people have oxygen. Every day is an emergency, but it's a challenging and exciting job, requiring both brains and occasionally brawn. You enjoy interesting work, have a wide variety of talents, and rarely complain. B) Shaila, the peacekeeper. As a member of the Bathydome's small police force, you are responsible for keeping the peace and protecting valuable assets. You rarely see any trouble, but you always stay ready for whatever is coming your way- it's your job, after all. You enjoy talking to people, are talented at physical activities, but aren't much good at puzzles. C) Tam, the biologist. As a Bathydome biologist, you are given tasks by your department head on a regular basis to work on and solve. You never know what the projects are for, but you enjoy the work and look forward to your next assignment. You enjoy tough challenges, are good with technology, but dislike manual labor. D) Nel, the janitor. In reality, you do many other jobs than cleaning- whatever needs doing, from wrenching down pipes, to serving food, to moving steel beams for construction. You don't really know how you fit in to Bathydome society, but you do your work steadfastly. Your job takes you all over the Bathydome, and as such your talents are diverse and you're very adaptable. You're shy and a bit of an outsider, and really wish you had a friend. E) Jaina, the Bathydrome Supervisor. As Bathydrome supervisor, you oversee all aspects of day-to-day life and are privy to almost everything that goes on. The entire Bathydrome project depends on you every day, and you won't forget it. F) No write-in votes, but if you'd really like to gender change one of the above that's fine (if you can get a majority vote for it). Your gender won't matter other than how some characters react to you. Your over-all abilities and proficiencies will be identical. As you pull on your clothes, your eye is pulled to the corner of the room where you store your hobby materials. 2) You see: A) A tiny hobby garden, with some precious soil and a few small plants. You've always had a bit of a green thumb and the garden really brightens up your room! B) An instrument (write in instrument of your choice). You have a natural talent for music, although you've not been brave enough to play for an audience yet. C) A small chemistry set. Even if it's not your job, you've always found chemistry fun. You don't make much practical, but you like messing around with neat reactions. D) A chessboard. You don't have a chess partner, but you're looking for one. You find chess a great way to keep your brain sharp. E) A pair of dumbbells. Every day after work you spend a little time lifting weights. It's always good to keep in shape! F) A sketchbook. You love drawing, and have a nice collection of pencils and pens to do it with. Your book is empty right now, but you'll fill it up soon! G) Write in a hobby! Be creative! It can be anything you want as long as it somewhat fits the setting. If you're unsure, ask first! Welcome to Depth, a forum-based choose your own adventure game. The basic format is easy. I will describe a specific scenario, and offer you some ways to resolve it (as per above). If you don't see something you like, you can also write-in your own option. The most popular option is chosen, and leads to the next scenario. You can join the game any time you want to, you don't have to have played from the beginning! You can type as much as you want, but when you're voting please bold your choices. This lets me quickly tally votes when I'm ready. For instance, an example vote for the first scenario would be: 1) D 2) F Depth is an open adventure, where you can do basically whatever you want whenever you want. There is an overarching plot, and it will both continue and have consequences even if you're not participating. You are, of course, limited somewhat by your environment and your skills. Feel free to ask questions about your surroundings at any time. I may or may not answer them. If you're posting a question you want answered, please put it in bold as well. Finally, your character can and will die if you make bad choices for him/her. If you're wondering if the game is based on Bioshock, the answer is- yes and no. I really love the setting of Bioshock, but I've actually never played the games myself. That being said, I have watched quite a bit of them, so you'll probably find little snippets of them here and there, aside from the setting which I've borrowed heavily from. Finally, a couple of tips if you're new to these kinds of games:
  3. I got inspired by Rathlord when he created Depth I have wanted to do one of these for a while, but this thread gave me the inspiration to finally make one! Rules are simple, after I post more story, you guys vote on what you want, saying A if the choice you want is A. Put your vote in bold, and any questions/comments/concerns you may have in normal text. Feel free to argue your answers, and if you change yours, strikethrough and write you new answer, like this: A B I may change these rules at any time, and will let you know if I do. Now lets get started! Entry I The world is ruined. All that's left of humanity are eleven colonies, in the remnants of Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the U.K, and the U.S. These colonies are walled off from the outside world, which many call the Dead Zone. Travel between the colonies is common place, and can happen because of the World Train, a giant intercontinental subway system built before the Event. Questions/Choices Question 1:Which colony do you live in? A; Amsterdam, Netherlands B; Beijing, China C; Berlin, Germany D; London, United Kingdom E; Moscow, Russia F; Ottawa, Canada G; Paris, France H; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia I; Rome, Italy J; Tokyo, Japan K; Washington D.C., United States of America Question 2: What's your occupation?* A; American private detective B; Arabic miner C; British reporter D; Canadian janitor E; Chinese package deliverer F; Dutch construction worker G; French medic H; German peace keeper I; Italian repairman J; Japanese drone operator K; Russian guard for hire *For clarification, if you live in a different country you take the World Train back and forth from home to work, you don't have to live where you work. Edit- I forgot to mention, the default gender is male, but if you get enough people wanting female that could be changed.
