  1. Hello. O bought the game on steam and i went straight to online play. The game is up to date and i downloaded the map that the server required. The game opens, i choose the server but when it loads tha game just crash. There's time to see the chatbox and the map, my character and that stuff but then the game just closes. What can i do?
  2. NOTE (1st March 2014): Once the new update is out, the server will be switched to a PVE - WhiteListed only server. I will setup a few links soon where people can sign up for the server's whitelist. I simply do not want any hackers or griefers on my server. I want an atmosphere of coop gaming and that is what I will be pushing out. You will need to provide your SteamID or your Steam Profile link to be able to qualify for the whitelist. Stay Tuned! NOTE (25-Feb-2014): As of right now, hackers, griefers are running wild and free on the server and we currently have no admin tools to kick/ban these players out of the game. The next update will bring us the tools we need to take care of the griefers. Till then, bare with us at the huge mess the server is in right now. Better things will come, when the developers release the next update of the game. Hello Everyone When i found out that MP is finally out for PZ, I wanted to launch a server but before that I wanted to have a go at it first. My curiosity got the better of me and I spent a few hours playing on the first open pvp server by Eliakoh. Have been in talks with him for a while now and he's a cool guy from what I can tell. Helped me out as well when I needed it Server IP: 37.187.92.183 Hostname: revolut10n.com [might be pointing to old IP Address for the next 48 hours] That's the number 10 in the word. Server is based in Germany with Hetzner. Currently the server has been dedicated 4 GB of RAM. If plenty of people play on it and it does run low on RAM, I will provide it with more =]. Server Location: Northern France Server Provider: OVH The devs want bug reports and stuff to help improve their game, so jump on in the server and cause some chaos Try not to PVP at spawn area please, lets all be civilized for the first 10 minutes of our life EDIT: SERVER Currently OFF-Line while I set the new server up. New world with fresh resources and everything. If all goes well, No more Server resets, a persistent world for days to come. Setup your farms, your houses, your camps and Game On! Edit 2: New Server now online, Server has 16 GB Ram dedicated to it to support a huge number of players. Edit 3: Updated Title with Prefix. Also World Resetted [ 26th Feb 2014 ]
  3. I was not sure where to put this so I apologise if this should be in the Multi player section. I've had this idea floating in my head since I first played multi player, what if there were no zombies, what if it was just that most of the population suddenly vanished, and the last survivors want to pick over the remains of human society. Basicly it would be a PvP server with no zombies, just players and NPCS eventually. Players would end up fighting over the remaining supplies. This would be a little like the Hunger games but on a bigger scale. Unfortunately though, my current economic situation does not enable me to be able to host a server by myself. Please tell me what you think. Is this a good Idea?
  4. I have been unsuccessful on build 25 in trying to add people as admins. The admin account is the only account that retains admin. It may be important to divulge the following information: I am running a Debian serverI am not running a whitelisted serverI let project zomboid generate the world.dbSo far I have been unable to add people as admin. These are the steps I took: I attempted to use /grantadmin on myself, to no avail. The game reports that the user does not exist, when clearly the user exists. Secondly, I have attempted to /adduser *username* *password* then /grantadmin, but the game informs me that /adduser is an unknow command. Grantadmin still outputs the same result. I enabled the option that automatically adds users to the whitelist upon connect and then attempted to /grantadmin, to no avail. The /changepwd command doesn't work outside of the admin/admin account. It will always report: "wrong password for ... *user*" I'd like the server to remain unwhitelisted. Can someone help me so I can grant admin to users other than the admin/admin account? Thank you. Edit: Adding quotations to the /adduser command does nothing. Adding quotations to the /grantadmin command does nothing.
  5. Hello survivors! I propose a new system/skill to be created - Teamwork I feel the ability to accomplish tasks as a team is vital in any zombie survival scenario. What better way to reward such actions than with new abilities and skill-sets. How i imagined this working is having an option upon right clicking another player / NPC thereafter would display a list of options for said player to choose from. Examples: Ask for a boost - Used to boost another player/NPC into a otherwise unreachable height. Fairly simple but possibly cause falling damage if failed. Help walk/ carry- One day i imagine someone might lose a leg from an emergency amputation, or a person might pass out from drinking too much whiskey. However the scenario plays that person will need a shoulder to lean on and this will be the way to do it. Push object - The bigger the object the more strength needed to push it, two is always better than one. The ability to move larger objects than one could themselves. These abilities would require a confirmation from the receiving player to assure both parties are game. Various difficulty levels would be assigned to the new abilities and unlocked by gaining experience similar to other skills. I feel this request is one that would clearly take much time and effort to implement but also could be one that changes the dynamic of the game to push players towards a more team oriented play style. Thus creating more dynamic player interactions and game depth. Please share you opinions/ ideas
  6. Well, the PVP system still needs to be highly improved and we all know it. Despite talks about a brilliant new "aggression" system, i think the game still could use a little bit of realism, specially dealing with meeting new survivors and PVP. This will be also very useful for RP servers, making it harder to kill characters for metagaming reasons (like "i hate player X, so i'll hunt his in game character) and making it harder to not be noticed as a raider. My suggestion is this (those who played Haven & Hearth and Space Station 13 are familiar with it) -Every character displays a random name above their face representing their appearance -If you click "Remember character's face", you'll add the character's number to a friend's list and you'll know that the guy with that number is the guy you saw -To have a player 'meet' another survivor and know who he is, they must add each other to their friend's list. When a player does that, both players will see their real names above their names unless they're wearing masks -When players wear 'mask' items (such as balaclavas, ski masks, bandanas, gas masks, surgical masks, cloth masks (Basque separatist style), etc) the player's name/character's number is hidden unless the person speaks, then the chat will show the person's number/name depending on whether the listener knows the raider -Equipping the mask is similar to equipping a piece of clothing or the backpack. It would be great if every mask had it's own model/sprite, letting players kind of develop their 'village raider uniform' with identical masks and hats. Like a player village of everyone wearing ETA style cloth masks made out of sheets, green pants, black shirts and berets hidden in a forest just waiting to ambush and rob survivors would be awesome. Why i think this idea is so important: The talks about the revolutionary new aggression system is great, but this system lacks. The ability to just turn on 'aggressive mode' and have no one be able to recognize you sucks because it will make it easier for people to just raid players and just move around undetected. Having the need for masks will make it easier for survivors to recognize raiders (even if you have the skull displaying above the raider character) and harder for people to commit random crimes. Also, this will allow players who want to be burglars but not killers to just put on a mask without the need to turn aggressive on other players.
  7. I didn't see this specifically in my search so forgive me if I missed something that's already planned or constantly talked about. I have a couple of ideas about minimizing server lag 1: Create a "maximum dead zombies rendered", where the oldest zombies (and their related blood spatter, and effects) are deleted, minimizing the rendering of objects, ground inventory, and related loading at one time. 2: Create a map cleaning interface to manually remove dead zombies, blood effects and such. Anyway, it's too early in the morning, I haven't had my coffee. Would love to hear other ideas about this.
  8. "When you first launch your server, or if no "admin" account exist, a password for the user 'admin' will be asked in your console." Is it realized now? I am starting server but in console there is nothing about admin rights or password. *sorry wrong txt attached (can't delete it)* console.txt
  9. First, forgive my bad english Second, I know it might be too early to bring this discussion, but sharing our points of view can't hurt. Third, I am totally against a loot respawning system, and I will give my thoughts on it Why? Because there has been a lot of talking in public servers, many people get pissed off when they join too late and "There is no loot left" Respawning loot would kill the charm of the game and the endgame itself. What would be the point on farming when you can camp houses and wait for food to magically reapear? Why would you care about saving ammo when you can allways get more? There wouldn't even make sense to storage items. Players would roam around and camp crucial locations and behave more aggressively like in other similar games. It would make every item less valuable, even the rare ones, since you can find it again eventually. BUT I know its unfair for some players. And thats why most servers are getting daily resets, and that the people that join after a restart have a big advantage, but respawning loot is not the solution. Killing a big aspect of the game to make it more fair (or less rough) its just not worth it. Maybe supply drops with essentials appearing once in a while could bring more balance. Also some starting gear for players that join too late. There are other ways
  10. Found someone's safehouse in a remote place and I don't want to rob them blind and move on. Never seem to catch them online though. Wish there was a way to leave them a note or something.
  11. Hi, Whenever i start PZ "online test" it crashes immediately. Plz help!
  12. Hi guys, I started (hosted) a server last night with a friend. We found a house, established a base etc and quit for the night. I closed my client, then the server.bat. I thought I'd just quickly test to see if it's saved the progress but it seems not to have...? Basically I started the server up again, and joined, and it's spawned me as a new character. I'm presuming I'm doing something wrong as what I've read in other threads, we should be able to carry on where we left off. I also noticed I had several folders named 127.0.0.1_Ch1lly etc in my Sandbox folder, and I presume that it's related (see screenshot). Any help is greatly appreciated as we really want to get playing this thing!
  13. Server address: 10.0.0.4 Starting a server for people that just want to get the hang of Project Zomboid Multiplayer. You can PvP, I will try to keep the server up and restart every 12 hours.
  14. Multiplayer is fantastic, but the constant fear of someone walking in to your 'home' is ever present. In a future update the ability to lock a door would be awesome (like Rust). Doesn't have to be complicated, opening a locked door requires a preset password so your fellow friendly survivors could enter. Thanks!
  15. I can't join my own server more than once. I get stuck on loading after the intro. Friends can join the server as much as they want. Only by deleting the world I can join again. Vantus explains the situation below: 2. Wait for server to start then launch Project Zomboid (64-bit), enter the correct IP, Port and a Username. Then join. 3. Success!! I'm on my server and playing without issue. (See just how fabulous my character is!) 4. I check the Player List to make sure I'm definitely online. Aah-yup! 5. I decide I don't like being quite so fabulous so I decide to come out of the game. 6. I forgot I left a dead rat in the cooker at Bob and Kates house, so I decide to go back in to stop it! (Without closing, restarting or deleting the server) 7. Unfortunately my days of being fabulous are over because I am unable to get back in. I am presented with a forever loading screen. 8. I alt+tab to check the console and see this: 9. I cry into my Weetabix. So there you have it. I'm sorry I didn't have any of my friends around to occupy the server as back up in my screenshots but I can confirm that while I experience all of the above, they can join and disconnect as frequently as they wish, even with new characters. The only way for me to get back into multiplayer again is to delete the "servertest" folder in my User>Zomboid>Sandbox directory, thus undoing any work we've achieved on that world save. I am then subject to my One-time-connect rule in the new world save. Rinse and repeat. I hope this helps or at least highlights where it is I am going wrong! What I have to add is that I tried hosting the server on a second laptop in my wifi, and joined with laptop-A (using local IP of the second laptop) and got same results. So I don't think this is about using the same machine, but using the same router(?). Some router info:
  16. Local Chat Window like Global Chat: A Chat placeholder like the global chat for local chat. If you can see people chatting on screen locally, it should show up in the local chat window. Preferrably have tabs for the chat, or two seperate windows will do. Currently there exists no chat window for local chat and if you look away for a few seconds, you won't even know if someone said something. It is very very hard to communicated locally compared to global communication currently. This was the biggest roadblock in teamwork currently while running with a crew. Suggested Item to add: Walkie Talkies How do they work? Seeing as we have 'Global Chat' and I am suggesting a 'Local Chat' window. Let's say I was at the north end of the town and my friend at the South, another at the East and so on at the West. We wouldn't want to use Global chat to give PVP's the slightest idea on what is going on and nor can we use local chat because we are not near each other. Walkie Talkies should give us the ability to have another chat window through which we can communicate with each other. Hopefully the Walkie Talkies have a weight on 0.0. Just that we need to find them to be able to use them would make it more interesting. Now that I think about it, we could just have private chat channels password protected as an alternative. But I'm totally sold on the Walkie Talkie idea xD For the life of me, i had more suggestions after playing last night around 2 AM but I just can't remember it now in the morning xD Hopefully it will come back to me over time.
  17. Small indie game with heavy focus on skill based pvp multiplayer with pets vs pets and bomberman gamerooms all in the browser. www.candysugarkingdom.com
  18. Me and my friend have been waiting and waiting for multiplayer, and now it's finally out! So I did everything to start multiplayer, but when it started up, it was black screen, like usual, when it was loading, but then it just exited out without any warning whatsoever, does anyone have a solution?
  19. I'm hosting a small whitelisted PZ Server for just me and some friends. While so far it's been a huge amount of fun with few issues, the occasional, multiplayer-specific issue has made me wish I could modify the data for my users' characters. For example one user was mobbed and infected due to latency making his client unresponsive. After some digging I notice that the character data seems to be stored client-side in <USER_FOLDER>/Zomboid/Sandbox/<IP>_<USERNAME>/map_p.bin, and not on the server itself. Having looked at the file in a hex editor it seems fairly easy to modify existing data. Changing the name or body parts is pretty trivial, but the problem I've run into is figure out which bit to flip or values to modify to be able to remove an infection. I was wondering if any documentation exists for where that might be stored, or if someone with more coding experience than me might be able to figure it out and share the info? Just to clarify, my goal here is correcting issues for my users that occurred as a result of Multiplayer bugs or limitations. I am very much against changing a save to undo something that was a user's own fault - if your stupidity kills you them then that's how it should be, but when an issue with the server is responsible for them losing items or a character then It's my responsibility to try and fix it. Ultimately tools for that should be included for admins (and I know that build 25 is adding some fun admin stuff soon) but right now I'm just looking for a quick fix.
  20. Greetings, I've been greatly enjoying PZ since first exposed to it late last year. I've started running a server on my own and was wondering if the starting locations of players can be changed or even randomized? On a side note, can custom maps be used in MP as well? Thanks!
  21. Wouldn't it be cool to see airdrops in the mp? They could contain food, water, tools, ammo and possibly weapons. The point of this would be to force survivors out of there bases for the valuable supplies sadly it would attract a horde of infected and also attract other survivors.
  22. As a huge fan of Project Zomboid and a server hoster myself, I am currently wondering if anyone (devs, admins, mods, or players) knows the day/month/year we will have multiplayer mods for server hosters. Any hints toward such knowledge is greatly appreciated!
  23. Might be jumping the gun on this a little... but I figured it wouldn't be a half bad idea to start a thread for public servers to be listed. Especially for those of us *cough* myself *cough* who seem to find themselves a bit lacking in the more technical aspects of setting one up. For sake of simplicity, please use the below format to advertise: Server Name: Server Typer: (PVE, PVP, RP, etc.) This is probably all the needed info for now as I would imagine most server owners are going to want to privately give out the server IP over PM. Server Name: eliakoh's Server Address: 91.121.15.71 / mindescape.eu Server Type: PVP
