network Announce Hostname / DDNS name instead of IP to clients
Killom posted a topic in PZ Suggestions
There is an issue, when hosting a server via private ISP connection with dynamic IP range. When the IP changes, players will have to rename their local savegames. For a workaround, players will have to manually change the IP to the correct hostname of the server in the favourite bookmarks. Please change the behaviour of the server, so he announces the hostname first and falls back to IP address if no hostname was configured. -
Hi, I just had a few questions regarding the running of a server on my own computer. My first question is this : Is it possible to maintain a server with a dynamic external IP with or without the use of additional software such as Hamachi, etc, etc? If not, how does one get around the limitations of IPv4 without purchasing a static IP adress? The main thing I want to do is simply host a server that runs 24/7 and works. My external IP likes to change 2-3 times a day, I assume that when your external IP changes it makes the saved server unavailable due to the change in IP. How can I host a server from my spare computer with a 24/7 uptime that doesn't screw up the other clients' and the map save? I appreciate any input.

Hi. It's really quite important to me to have the game server bind to only one address (and the given ports) and not to all of them like its doing right now. My box has more than one IP and there is a listen on all addresses instead of the one I want to hand out to players. Can anyone help me fix this? Or can the devs put an option in for this asap? Thanks muchly!

I have had some trouble getting the multiplayer going on this game (there's a lot of guides on how to set one up but nobody mentions how to join a server) but now I have it up and running I'm really enjoying it. Recently we've hit quite a big snag though; every time my router goes down (from a power cut or it starts to play up and I have to reboot) I get a new public IP address which my friend then needs to connect to my server. When he does connect he has to create a new character and change his username; losing his carpentry skill and all his items in the process. Is there any way around this problem? We live in the same house and are connected to the same router so we could run the server through our LAN if I knew how, however there's no real guide for this. Thank you.
