  1. -Have npc communities develop over time with or without player input. This means they develop regardless in diffrent ways each playtrough in diffrent locations of he map, this helps with not only singleplayer expiriences but also with multiplayer as it adds vareity and promotes exploration, having you survive by yourself before you encounter these settlements. This settlements appearing/ being constructed appear later a few years down the line or months, it's all up to the developers ofcourse. -Having outpost/Settlement wars between Npcs. (Unlike Events which happen and disappear, this should have lasting effects to Npcs aswel). This is a great way to make the player not feel like the only one with braincells, you can't always expect everyone to be good right? it is normal for people to want and desire things out of their reach and achive anything to get there. (I understand this is near impossible i just included it because maybe the developers can take something out of it) -The player gets to quite litterly be apart of these communities either by being a leader or just a normal citizen, or a millitary leader ect.. This as you have guessed it, Helps with immersion and adds playabillity and style to playtroughs, it makes Npc communities make sense for the player and for the Npcs themselves because the have a neural network brain right? (joke) But in order to get to this more complex part of the game you need to survive.. This is end game or a theory of it. This takes project zomboid to a whole new route, I belive you can't implement this yet because the first part of the game and mid game are too tiny right now, this is more in mind with singleplayer rather than multiplayer. Closing off this Comment with a conclusion like school teachers tought me to do" In conclusion, this i belive makes it so much more interesting to survive, adding things to speed up the process of making settlements like small events, finding people, quests, making zombies respawn a lot less and zombie migrations from one side of the map to the other. (Iknow it requires rewriting, worth it? if done right yeahs.
  2. So I've heard that the NPCs are mainly being scripted in numerous timelines from various backgrounds, traits, and other conditions that are essentially being hand-made. Which I can absolutely respect as that would allow more "human" responses in comparison to AI. I understand the idea of event chains that act like a logic system in a way, but I can't fathom anything short of a small army of writers to make it possible. Atleast without years of development. So I propose the following; why not let us, the community and gamers help write scripts or events? I'm sure we've all been through a number of situations and reacted to them differently depending on our own character builds or goals. If they allow the player base to contribute to this end, it would allow the devs to focus on the mechanics end to aid in speeding up the final release of NPCs. Not only that but it would allow some great diversity in the PZ world as of course, not every writer is the same. This could be accomplished by giving the community some form of template and maybe bracket it into categories of responses, reactions, or goals. Or a similar tool to properly and effectively integrate it seamlessly into the game. Essentially give us the guidelines and a relatively basic tool to help create the NPCs you, the devs, envisioned. Because trust me, we the players would love deep, lore rich NPCs. One way I could think of implementing this is breaking it down by traits or prebuilt classes. This way we could formulate different NPC reactions and goals that could potentially mesh together with other traits depending on their capabilities or limitations. Maybe even adding in reliance on other NPCs (such as potential family members) for negative traits such as deaf, weak ect or vice versa for bonus traits. Maybe have npc cops, firefighters, soldiers ect try to do their jobs at first and maintain the crumbling civilization. The possibilities are endless. A way to allow us access to this could be a form of massive logic chains. Where inputs from the beginning of the game could be handmade by thousands of players. Such as family members, goals, occupation, and some background information such as preferences, relationships ect. Perhaps even slap on a labeling system such as traits, personality ect to easily organize and piece together multiple chains. Finally a team of moderators to accept or decline certain inputs/outputs or entire chains for rating purposes or feasibility. It could be something as simple as a blog similar to this one, or more complex as a plug-in or game extension. Or even a bit of basic coding. Anything that would allow us to effectively help the core game.

  4. Hello ! I always loved the concept of the metagame events in project zomboid, and I'd dearly like to have some more implemented into the game. Here are some suggestions (as usual, they are worded like wiki articles as it is easier for me to formulate them that way). Some of these events are linked to my Falling Skies (Crashed Aircrafts) suggestion. Unique metagame events : Landing Cesna : During the early days (days 0-3), a cessna will fly in from the north and attempt to land at the abandoned airfield south of valley station, attracting nearby zombies. It is a relatively small and minor event, to avoid overwhelming the player from the get go, and could serve as a warning/prelude to the helicopter event. A few hours before it arrives, the same warning on the emergency broadcast that is given for the helicopter is sent. Transport plane crash : During the 4th day, a transport plane will fly to and crash north of Muldraugh, causing quite a ruckus and attracting many of the zombies in the surrounding areas. Jet interceptors : An hour after the helicopter event has ended, jet sounds can be heard from presumably a fighter aircraft. A few hours afterwards an explosion can be heard, presumably the news helicopter being shot down by the military. Exclusion zone overrun : During the 5th day, the exclusion zone's primary checkpoint is overrun during the morning, as the sounds of a riot lure in the infected, which causes a massive firefight, which can heard even from very far away, luring in even more zombies and causing the military to fall back. Military helicopter crash : An hour after the firefight of the exclusion zone overrun event has ended, a helicopter will make its way to the military homes, part of the exclusion zone border south of Louisville, and crash in the suburbs north of said homes shortly after taking off again (~3 hours after originally coming in). Bomber crash : On day 6, with a cataclysmic detonation that can be heard map wipe, a B-2 Spirit bomber crashes south east of Louisville with its entire payload, causing it to detonate and create a massive crater. Bridge destruction : On day 7, in the evening, the military opens fire with artillery and uses demolition charges to destroy key bridges, causing a distant rumble that can be heard from most of the map. Depending on where you are positioned, the sound will come from, and attract the zombies to, the nearest bridge. Spy plane crash : On day 30, in the middle of the night, a U-2 reconnaissance spy plane will crash south of riverside, in the woods between riverside and doe valley. Repeatable metagame events : All of those events are effectively alternatives to the current screams and gunshots metagame events. Explosion : A loud explosion, like that made by a heavy bomb, can be heard, with jet engine sounds heard briefly before and after the detonation, presumably a military bombing run. Grenade barrage : A series of small explosions, presumably grenades, can be heard, causing the zombies to migrate. Sirens : Before day 9, sirens can be heard in the distance, attracting the zombies. Sustained gunfire : Sound from a sustained gunfight, like a full on battle against the infected or even other humans. Can last for up to an hour before stopping abruptly.

Are you ready to live and die with us? - Meet and interact with the characters from the well-known TV series LOCATIONS CDC: The chosen location is one of the most important buildings of the city of Atlanta, the Center for Disease Control, where scientists and doctors have been trying to find a cure for the infection. Hershel Greene’s farm: it includes a big two-floor house, some huts for the cattle and a hayloft. The town of Woodbury will be reproduced as accurately as possible. It is protected by walls and it hosts a community led by a man who wants to be called Governor. It is sufficiently protected, it is full of useful resources, including electricity. The prison: probably it is going to be the one already present in the workshop, but there are going to be some new details and tricks in its surroundings. Terminus, The Terminus community is located in an old train station and is protected by some fences. It seems well organized and some food never fails. Too bad that its inhabitants have converted to cannibalism! The safe area of Alexandria looks like the most well-organised. It is clean, protected, with big spacious houses for nice people. It seems too good to be true. As a matter of fact, it is not that perfect… Hilltop is a community located on a Hill. His survivors are farmers that live with the provent of their farms. Hilltop has few soldiers but no fire weapons. For this reason the soldiers at defence of the gate use lances. The Kingdom: A Group of surivors has taken a zone that they call "The Kingdom". They call their leader "King" and everyone loves and respect him. They are farmers too, but they have their own army, that consists of men who train every day to protect civilians Sanctuary: The base of the Evil Oceanside: A group of women survivors has taken refuge in the forest, building their own camp to stay isolated and escape from the enemies. SECRET LOCATION: There will also be buildings and/or optional and ‘’secret’’ locations, which will be revealed during the seasons. 7. So how does one normally start of these off? Welp here goes nothing.... I do enjoy Project zomboid from Alpha eight until forty-one but over the course of time. A few things about the game has bothered me a tiny little bit and I do implore the Dev's if they decide to read this to at least consider the ideas going forward. Idea 1#: A Hospital / FEMA Quarantine zone: I believe in every zombie survival game. There should be a Hospital / Quarantine zone and hopefully with a little magic it should be loaded with zombies. either on the outside or inside depending. I think it would be a fun idea to have a very small possibility of having Nurses and or Doctors spawning in said hospital or Quarantine zone. With that being mentioned. There should be a very small chance of finding Hazmat suits along with hazmat zombies that should be much harder to kill with fire. I think it would add more to the Lore of the game and it would add a tiny bit more to the game with some added challenge. Idea 2#: Jobs and Skills and items: One thing that has bothered me is how lack luster the job section is at the start of the game. I think to add some more Zang into the mix. The Job skill that is selected should be able to carry some upgrades as the game goes on that allows the players to unlock exclusive perks. For example: A FEMA Military Solider over the course of time could turn into Veteran with added benefits or another example a Nurse could turn into a Doctor or a Doctor could turn into Surgeon with added medical perks. I believe having a job upgrade system would implore players on MP or Single player to live out for as long as possible and it would add value to keeping your character alive for long as possible. ( Moving forward on this subject ) - Going about Surgeon - I think if someone is shot they have to undergo Surgery depending on location of the bullet in which it hits the player body, which requires someone to either be knocked out via Medicine or if we go back to the old civil war days. Lots and Lots of booze or if you wanted to be awake during this painful event, an extreme amount of painkillers. Idea 2 Part 2: I also think Gunsmithing should be considered along with more types of guns and being able to make bullets for all types of guns along with a workbench to craft add on to bullets like explosives rounds or incendiary rounds. Also I think being able to make scopes for guns would be interesting as well. I think it should be noted that more guns Like Heavy Machine guns or Sub machine guns should be added to the game however, the lack of guns disturbs me a bit coming from a military background and a guy who enjoy's coming up with said ideas for these types of games! Idea 2 Part 3: Lastly, I think if we can grow wheat in high quantities. You should be able to make Bio-fuel and put a stop to what it seems to be unlimited Gas farming at the Gas Stations. It also would add even more importance to the Engineers in the game and would add long term play ability to their kits as well. Last by not least Idea #3 Events: I think the game should try to include extremely rare but very extreme events such as a blizzard, Polar Vortex, Major Forrest Fire or Flooding/ Flash Floods. I think if the game could add extreme environment events. It would add another layer of Strategy per play through of the game and it would make it very difficult for some players to stay in one area for example near the river or in the woods for example. Personally, regarding events. I think when it comes to player decision. there needs to be some sort of Risk element to every decision or otherwise the game loses out on repeatability. What do you guys think ? Also please feel free to add comments and add more ideas . I would love to read about them. JewishCowboy - Over and Out - (Radio goes silent )

  10. Hello, I'm need some help In this site resources, I found events (seems decompile..), and one was: Events.OnPlayerMove.Add(functionName); But, it does not work, when you are in car( It's bug, or what? ), and I did not find anything like: OnVehicleMove The question is: How to get coords, [without OnPostUIDraw or other not connectable events,] when you are in car? But, however, I can use crutch: OnPlayerMove and if plr:isDriver check coords by OnPostUIDraw..
  11. Hi everyone, i'm fairly new to the PZ modding scene, but am really enjoying the game so far. I love programming so thought this might make a good new hobby. I've got 2 ideas that I thought might be interesting to flesh out, but I wanted to get some feedback on what's more feasible, and suggestions of existing, similar mods I could look at to get familiar with the API. I'm also interested if anything I say is already completely done as-is; though, I care a lot less if it's made obsolete later on changing zombie (re)spawn to not happen inside the map but instead at the borders, immediately migrating across the map with a somewhat random direction. though this default, immediate behavior would probably be configurable to not conflict with other, better options for relocation expanded events -- additional events beyond the helicopter and gunfight that can add complication. since this can be so complex, I would probably start with simple events and branch out from there I think both are similar in that they'd involve manipulating large numbers of Z's, only sometimes in groups, usually off screen over, and potentially over very long periods of time. Is this going to be asking too much of the game at this point? I was also wondering if the existing two events are part of the java code or the lua, and if lua, which file(s)? Thanks for any and all help, Serenity
  12. Greetings fellow Project Zomboid enthusiasts! As I’m sure some of you will be glad to hear, we have founded a dedicated PZ roleplaying community. Project Zomboid is game which greatly caters to immersion and roleplaying. Yes, at first, to some less knowledgeable on the game - its graphical fidelity may put off. Yet, once you begin playing, it truly is an experience to be had by any apocalyptic survival fan. We believe, what we have created is the way Project Zomboid is meant to be played. The playstyle that will bring the most potential authentic entertainment. We, as a group of friends, have often roleplayed on private servers in the past, yet we decided to go to the effort to not only create a better, more diverse and public experience but also a friendly out-of-character community. We have spent the last month or so, hard at work on the community, each serving our own important roles. We will be officially launching on the 4th of June. Plus, to further the hype and narrative stories which will be told in due time; we will be launching with an Outbreak Event. You read more about it here: http://zomboidrp.com/thread-82.html So, what are you waiting for?! Sign up, submit your whitelist application and join us in the epic fall of Kentucky!http://zomboidrp.com Our TeamSpeak 3: 185.16.85.83:9045 We will also be streaming the launch at: https://www.twitch.tv/djhato [Credits to the following users for helping with the initial launch]: Bun, Redsky, Austin, Ryan, Dan, Polaroid and Natje. All of you have received the “Patient Zero” award on the forums for your assistance, which we appreciate beyond immeasurable lengths! 14. Surely if you're feeling a little sad in real life (for any reason, whether it be the apocalyptic troubles, or wife problems), yoou go check on your crops outside and when you see their fully grown and ready tobe harvested, you cheer up and suddenly you're in a much better mood!! After obtaining the slightly sad moodlet very frequently, I thought of an idea on how to possibly addmore depth and realism to PZ. Suggesting that some actions, events and occurrences change your mood, whether it be making you more happy, increasing your boredom levels, reducing your boredom levels, making you more frightened, etc... Thunder/Lightning strikes increase your fear, they make you panic because of the loud noise (+Panic)Finishing a man-made structure makes your character very happy and gives himself a sense of accomplishment (+Happiness, +Boredom reduction) (this could be done by the game checking to see if 4 walls/corners of man-made material are connected, along with an adequate doorway and at least 1 piece of furniture inside the build - It could add more happiness for; each square inside the building (would stop people abusing it with 1x1 areas), Each piece of man-made furniture, each man-made window, etc...)Harvesting a crop (+Happiness) (For every plant/crop you successfully harvest you could gain a small bit of happiness)Securing a safehouse/Barricading all the windows and clearing all the zombies from a building (+Happiness, -Panic)(If no zombies are detected inside a building, no windows are left unbarricaded, all doors are closed and all openings/entrances are sealed off then the player should receive a large happiness boost and their panic should quickly reduce) Getting a full, uninterrupted nights sleep (+Happiness, -Panic)Being near a campfire (+Happiness, -Panic, +Tiredness) (People always feel safe and secure around campfires, it also helps you nod off quicker)there's many more events which could be added/made to affect the players moodlets, but I'm not going to suggest anymore here (yet!) This whole post is just to hopefully show the developers that this should be implemented!
  15. Firstly, in all those top end open world games like ESV: SKYRIM or Rockstar's RED DEAD REDEMPTION, you look for something to do. So once you've established a closed environment you need to find something to do, right? Well I know for a fact that people are going BALLISTIC over NCP's being brought back to the game, so it would be fun to find them and their safe houses and it's up to you to trust them and hope they don't shoot ya, or slaughter them and nick their loot. People wanted a strategy side to PZ, there already is one but if it could be grown into living in a fortress under the rule of some arsehole of hero it would be much more like the walking dead or something. You could be taken prisoner and must escape a gang's hideout and find your way home. If vehicles are added (and it is confirmed that they will) convoy ambushes will give players a reason to venture from their base. In the end, people just want the world to feel more alive, but keep the apocalypse atmosphere on the ride too!
  16. Made a little alphabetically sorted cheat sheet for stuff mentioned in title, thought id share for whomever it is usefull. Events: (note a reference can also be found here (not done by me), albeit a little outdated it has some more infos: http://pz-mods.net/guide/event-reference/ ) LuaMethods: Exposed Classes:
  17. Hey everyone! (Sorry if this has already been created) I'm not sure how you would be notified of the event happening (on-screen notification, sound, visual indicator, etc) but there would be a whole bunch of random events that either brought you misfortune or prosperity. Maybe when NPCs are re-implemented there will also be random events for them.
  18. When you lovely developers have the time, why not add a sandbox setting thing that takes that sweet metagame thing you wrote and scales it back a little, try and make it more realistic in that zombies won't magically seek you out after a time. Plenty of people have gotten miffed about how the zeebs still manage to find y'all after a bit; why not offer another experience to add some additional variety and still stay close to the lore you're going for? I definitely don't mean to ask you to do this right now or add it to survival or anything. <3
  19. Okay so with the new events like EveryTenMinutes we aready have a powerful Event which doesn't eat much performance. I still have questions about the performance though. Would there be any difference between function one()...end function two()...end function three()...end Events.EveryTenMinutes.Add(one);Events.EveryTenMinutes.Add(two);Events.EveryTenMinutes.Add(three);and: function one()...end function two()...end function three()...end function master() one() two() three()end Events.EveryTenMinutes.Add(master);Will there be any noticeable impact if I exit out of the functions early? I actually do that at the moment in all of my mods... I try to exit out as soon as possible by testing different boolean states at the beginning of the function for example. For example like this: function doStuff() if noStuffToDo then return; end... -- else do much more stuff hereendEvents.OnTick.Add(doStuff);Of course it has to check the boolean value each time it is called but would this have any recogniseable impact on performance or is it negligeable?
