  1. Aight, what if there was hand held metal detector in the game that you used to find scavenge things like firearms, metal sheets, scrap metal and other metal objects? You know those long, length-wise electric ones with the arm brace and the metal disc at the end? You'd find it in houses and electronics stores. Would it be rare loot? I'm not sure but you could at least find some. When right clicking the metal detector and selecting "use" you'd automatically go into foraging mode only this time you'd be able to detect metal objects better than you would in normal foraging mode. Other objects would still be detectable but metal ones would pop up the best. I was thinking using the metal detector could increase your forage level too. The metal detector could also detect metal stored in containers in addition to metal lying out in the open. You could even use the metal detector as a blunt weapon though I wouldn't recommend it since you'd be damaging equipment against its original purpose. Better to use an actual melee weapon rather than a electronic tool that's meant to be utilized for its original purpose the most. I'm guessing it could weight 2-4 units in the game. A metal detector weighs on average 2-4 pounds in the current day though the 90s shouldn't have much of a difference. Also, metal detectors would beep in the game potentially attracting zombies. In order to stop this you have to get a set of headphones for the metal detector. You know, like you would for the portable cd players in the game. The headphones required would be different ones that the mp3 ones.
  2. I don't believe for sure I'm the first to suggest this, but since I search for quite a bit and didn't really find any post on this exact topic, I'm making this. Sheath A simple technology existing since medieval times and that should exist and be needed in the game is the "Sheath". It would be exactly the same as the "Holster" for guns, creating a new item slot for bladed weapon, however: There should be 4 versions of the Sheath -Long Sheath > Only Katana, Machete and future long blades should be possible to be slotted. Short blades would be too loose on it and not stick. -Short Sheath > Only Knifes, Daggers and future short blades should be slotted. Long blades wouldn't fit at all. -Open Sheath > Fits any bladed weapon, can be adjusted in size and allows for blades of any size since the tip of the blade can come from the other side. It should also be possible to slot a few non-blade weapons on this sheath, like a crowbar, sledgehammer, axe and other one and two-handed weapons reasonable enough to fit it. -Katana Sheath > Most Katanas would be found together with their sheaths, since even display blades come with a sheath, so whenever you find a Katana, there should be a 75% chance that a long Sheath would spawn together. Exclusive for Katanas since it is thinner than an average long blade sheath. The sheath should be possible to equip either left, right or back of the hip. And so should the "single holster". Equipping it on your back would equip it horizontally on the back of the hip. The Sheath and the holster should take the same item slot, same with the Sheath and the Fanny Pack and Satchel on the back hip slot. This means that you can have the sheath on one side and a holster on the other, but can't equip the double holster with a left or right sheath, needing to place it on your back, but then you can't have a satchel nor a fanny pack on your back. The Open Sheath should only be equippable on right or left, and not be equippable on the back of the hip, since the weapon is kept diagonally and it would trip you when trying to walk.. The "Belt" should have a durability and slotting and using a bladed weapon from your belt should reduce it. As we see it, the blades don't have sheaths on them, so when you place them or pick them from your belt, you are making small cuts on the belt and sooner or later it should snap, dropping all items on the belt on the ground and becoming a single leather strip. This would also make it more meaningful to loot and carry more than one belt. It should be possible to craft sheaths out of leather with the "tailor" skill. It should require reading a recipe magazine about "Medieval Tools still used today" The open sheath would be more rare than the other two to find and need a higher tailor level to craft. The long sheath should also be very rare and require a tailor level slightly smaller than the open sheath, but a lot more leather strips. Shoulders Another possibility not currently being explored are "shoulder" slots for bags. Be it equipping a "Satchel" on your left or right or by having common handbags and purses, that also exist in the game, be equippable on your shoulder since they have shoulder straps. I know by personal experience that I can carry two of these, one in each shoulder, plus a backpack and definitely still could wear two fanny packs, one in the front and one on my back, all at the same time, and still have my arms free to do anything. With all these considered, the belt would become more meaningful, we would be able to equip a machete or a sword on our hip but need to consider well what we are gonna be equipping since we may be taking the same item slot than another item we may need as well. Conclusion Is it somewhat realistic? Yes, perfectly. Sheaths are a tool still used and very present today and exists exactly so that we can equip blades on belts without the risk of cutting the belt, which is also realistic to be present in the game. Though rare, you can still find really long sheaths today since long machetes can be found pretty reasonably, and I myself have a machete in my father's farm which the sheath is more than long enough to roughly fit a Katana or other long blades. Same with the shoulder bags and purses. It is perfectly reasonable. Does it fit with the spirit of PZ? This fits perfectly with the current style and even placing the long sheath on your back is perfectly reasonable and not only would it be useful, but also visually pleasing. Same with having bags on your shoulders. Would it make the game too easy? It would not make the game any easier, just provide utility that grants some QoL, while it would also create a possibility of your belt snapping at a bad moment when you draw your blade from your hip without a sheath in the middle of a zombie fight. Would it require rewriting the entire game (like changing the camera view, for instance) Not really. The code for the sheath would be the same as the one for the holster, but limiting it to it blade type only, instead of small guns. The only rewriting would be for the belt, in order to add the durability and damage when slotting and equipping a blade and that is relatively a minor amount of code, and for the bags, in order to make the equippable on "shoulder slots" for left and right. Would it add enough to the gameplay that it would be worth taking the time to add? Definitely. It would make the belt more meaningful and the possibility of equipping a machete on your hip, sacrificing either 1 holster slot or one satchel/fanny pack slot for it and having your back slot empty for a crowbar or an axe. The possibility of carrying tools on the open sheath would also be interesting and extremely useful, opening more choices on what tools you wish to carry with you in your quickslots. Both are a great QoL improvement. Would it be found in Muldraugh, Kentucky common enough to be added? Yes, definitely. They have machetes for the long sheath, Katanas would have their exclusive sheath, the open sheath might just be a belt tool sheath and knifes also have sheaths. Also, since you can craft them, you would "find" them anywhere in the world. And the shoulder bags are already present in the game, they just need to have the option to equip on left/right shoulder.
  3. If there's anything that needs a combat speed modifier badly then it's a backpack! It would be cool to have a combat speed modifier on backpacks work a bit different: - The modifier should be in effect based on the % of the capacity of the bag. - An empty bag should only provide, let's say 10% of the combat speed modifier penalty - A full bag should have a fairly difficult combat speed modifier penalty This change would be realistic (yeah who cares, it's a game) as a heavy bag weighs down people easily. But it would also be good for gameplay, letting players be looters or fighters. Having to choose a different loadout based on goals and situations. Making more bags viable and different, so there is no "best bag", but a "Best bag for X situation". I always love things that make the characters in RPG games less jacks of all trades.
  4. I'm currently on my first playthrough, and I'm carrying a bunch of stuff around in bags. As in, 4 bags of supplies (maybe it's overkill, or me being a klepto, or something, but still). The current inventory system isn't too friendly with quickly switching items or just dropping them. I know there are a few threads to this type of thing, but this is different enough I feel to warrant it's own. My main issue has been trying to move serveral bags at once to different areas. I like to equip one in each hand, if I've been there before. The problem is, if I come across a zombie, I can't quickly drop my bags and equip a weapon. True, I could just equip the weapon with both hands, but that leaves me with nearly 50 pounds in my inventory. Unless I take the extra 5 seconds to drop the bags, which, true, isn't long, but when your prepping to fight some zombies, that can be forever. Small thing I'm asking for really. (or so it seems to me. If that could be a coding nightmare, or something like that, please let me know!) Being able to drop items that are equipped instead of having to unequip it, then drop it as two seperate actions. Logically, shouldn't you just be able to drop whatever's in your hands, anyways? That's my speal, thanks for reading! Edit: So, I'm still a noob, and I right click to interact with any items. I realized if you scroll over the bag, you can drop it right away. So, change in request, maybe simply include some of the normal options in with the right click ones?
  5. before i get under way i would just like to interduce myself. i am Tsukune Aono and ive been playing this game for quite some time now and love it. but i do have some suggestions to what could enhance this game to be even more productive and awesome. animations ive seen through my gameplay not much but some quirky animations. such as opening windows, how he holds weapons and attacks with them and felt that they could still be there but if their were openings in custimization. such as being able to change how you walk, sneak, hold weapons, open things etc. and could all be listed under styreo type features. such as a light fast guy could have a stance like Aiden Pearce ( watch_dogs) while big jock like characters would walk with grit and a sense to smash somethings head in. i would also like appearance animations to be fixed to such as holding rubbish bags or having camping packs on your back. im just sick of looking at my dull character silliesly walk around like fallout 3 carrying a shit ton of stuff and not actually giving a F about it like he shrunk all of his items and shoved them down his pants. i would love to be able to open up a heads up display like the bodies health one and actually attach a gun to his belt, put some water bottles on the side of his back pack and have sone grenades on his chest while he has a back pack on and having an animation to run with struggle and stumble. (i know i may have added items and things you actually cant do or would change the whole concept of the game but i would make another topic about those so dont worry. Items i would love to have the following items in the game. this may help in gameplay generator location:(rare) basements, hardware stores, survivor bases, camps, some houses Info: generators are used for keeping the electricity and water sources working in a floor (small, medium), or an area space conected to it R: i would love to have a cool little area running electricity even when the lights go out to still feel home and comfertable. it would also make for some survival feel to some requirements: (FYI: requiments are also items i would love to put in the game and will be found under neath) a quarter of oil canaster a day. oil canaster: location: (easily found) basements, attics, hardware stors, houses, back yards, kitchen closets, cars, petrol stations info: oil canasters could be used for a number of things from burning houses down to starting up a generator, or killing yourself. R: to help with the generator system dvds: Location: (easily found) living rooms, bedrooms, dvd stores, shops, mall, info: are either recorded t.v.shows or movies that allow to entertain your character much faster than reading books. R: im a comfy survival sourt of guy and would love to chill back and watch some sitcoms as the world ends. it would be fun as requirments: T.V., electricity working CPs/ laptops Location: bedrooms, lound rooms, dinning rooms, shops, parks info: these allow the user to look up on whats happening in the world from statistics stating the dead and electricity and water runout, check their emails if any playabal or non-playable characters have got news for them and to just get any announcments in the world from scientests etc. R: like i said with dvds this would also be a happy comfy device but would also be important for serious situations requirments: electricity grids time line im just going to get this done fast. time line would be when you get to spawn in the game and the effects it takes on your character. for instance say you make it Z day then it will be when the virus first spread, leading people to panic and drive around and go into shops and steal supplies and cause choas or you could make it twenty years later where the worlds a waste land and the enviroment is saught of like the last of us. thank you for the replies and keep playing PZ
  6. Okay, I have had an idea how binoculars could work in game: When you press and hold the sneak/ready attack button and drag the mouse to the edge of the screen you get a slightly wider view of your surroundings. With binoculars equipped as a primary/secondary, this view is significantly increased, although you will only be able to see what your character can see, so if there is a house blocking your peripheral vision you obviously would not be able to see anything behind it. A way around this would to be able to get to higher vantage point, a second or third floor for example, enabling you to see over said house. An alternative to having binoculars equipped as primary/secondary, you have the option to "wear" them around your neck. To balance this out, wearing binoculars or having them equipped leaves them prone to damage. They could deteriorate completely over time or slowly get damaged, making the view distance shorter or blurrier. Rendering the Binoculars almost useless. Binoculars will come in a small variety, ranging from 100m-500m (or shorter/longer distances) and will be slightly rare and are not regarded as military equipment. What do you think guys?
