    Cherno and tiles.

So I was lurking the forums (like I have for years now) and came across Cherbourg. What a beautiful piece of work. Even though I cannot play Project Zomboid (my 2011 yr old laptop can't handle it like it used to). I still admire most of the things that are created. I've been contemplating reworking the Chernaurus map since Cherbourg came along, but it's a massive endeavor. Cherno was a passion project. A hobby. Meant to ease a lot of anxieties and depression. I've since lost most of my photoshop files due to hard drive failure. But I still have some files. So I made a new base map. Making tiles is hard work. Multiple tiles, even harder. I have some drawing abilities, but not like the devs. Creating handmade tiles or sprites or whatever you want to call them is HARD. I scoured the internet to search for tiles that I think would fit in a post apocalyptic setting and of course some good 'ole regular tiles. But mostly things you would see in a dystopian setting like litter, clutter, etc. I found a blender file in this forum and learned how to use blender: in taking 3D models and converting to png tiles (I can't remember who posted it, but credit to them) These tiles are, of course, not mine. I also have worked on creating new recolor and texture tiles (walls and roofs) and trying to see how to work with multi-tiles (not mine) just converted in blender from a 3d model found on different forums from different dystopian and not-so-dystopian games: I also played around in photoshop just to see how multi-tile objects are built on an isometric grid. All in all, the pandemic gave me some time to play around and think how cool and rather complex it is to make multi-tile objects. I wish there were a tool that can auto-magically cut tiles on an isometric grid. NOTE: Though they aren't exactly "custom" by any means. These tiles are being made available for anyone to use for their map making endeavors. Of course you do have to actually make them useable for the game and create the respective files in TileZed. I wouldn't know where to start. As I haven't dealt at all with TIleZed or WorldEd in a long time. As for Chernaurus. I'm slowly working on it. As for buildings, clutter, litter, the farmlands, and all that wonderfully tedious stuff? That will take a little more time, unless boredom takes over. I saw there was a google drive with all the player made buildings and the sort. Some of those buildings might work on this map. But I feel that this map needs its own tiles (sprites) and a lot of "DIFFERENT" buildings all around with lots of randomness. In the original DAYZ game there wasn't enough difference between all the buildings. Honestly I don't know enough about LUA or other game aspects to create a mod for this. If nothing, I will just pass the project over to someone that has more experience and can actually make it happen.
  2. Project Chernaurus Buildings and such will be posted here from now on. Hope you all enjoy. Map is complete (minus buildings and such.) There are placeholder tiles for where buildings will be placed. The map size is 6000px x 6000px. It's a huge map.Buildings and whatnot are what's left (basically everything) to make it a real fun map to get immersed in!! Update: 2/11/2014 Chernogorsk I am currently constructing the city of Cherno, with the help of Maklane, I have a couple buildings to get started, while making my own buildings for the world. If I do use other members buildings I will be sure to credit those as well. Hopefully won't take too long and I will post pictures of the progress. Thank y'all for visiting! Update: 2/24/2014 Getting more buildings created, been a bit busy with life, but still building on my off days and whenever I have a chance to work on them. Learned a bit about custom tiles, might have my own tiles made for the castles, from some examples I've seen online. Also will be making cracked, peeled walls, a more run down look for Chernarus. New roof tiles and so on. dead body tiles and other miscellaneous tiles for atmosphere. Update: 5/4/2014 Project Chernaurus will be suspended until further notice. (Due to a busy work schedule). I am very happy with the work I've been putting in to make it the best fun map to play on so hopefully I'll get back to it and get it up and running so all can enjoy in the near future. I've been out a while and haven't really updated anything but before the busy weeks I finished placing buildings in Chernogorsk and most of the map is finished. I had some random close calls with TILEZED almost failing and causing memory issues. I guess the map has so many nooks and crannies to explore which made it bigger and more memory intensive but all that is really left is touch ups and things of that nature. So even though I've finished all the easy work now is where the HARD WORK begins and where I will leave it for the time being until I have more time to myself and my hobby as opposed to WORK, FAMILY and SCHOOL. I'm sorry about the bad news!! I will be out of contact with this forum for a while, but will randomly visit the website whenever I have a chance!! Again so sorry for the news!! Sorry for not posting any screenies, too much work and so many ways I'd like to present it and make it look nice so I guess I will wait until I have more time to. 3. Project South Zagoria - Chernarus Hello everyone and welcome to my first mapping project on Project Zomboid. I will be attempting to replicate the current Chernarus+ map into Project Zomboid for you to enjoy. Now, I am currently working with the basic tiles and items without anything custom added, and it may be a while this way since I don't have much knowledge into creating custom tiles, furniture, etc. So, I will try to get as close as I can to the actual DayZ/ArmA map. Keep in mind that there will be differences and issues and bugs and so forth, but that is why I hope I can make a releasable edition soon for all of you to at least test if you are willing to. Features: A 1 : 1,6 Scale of the map - Due to allowing easier replicating of the map (Or you can see it as 1 Chernarus meter = 1,6 Project Zomboid meters) New Custom Replicas of Chernarus Buildings A 9000x9000px Map A 30x30 cell map (Possible enlargement might be done) This is the PRE-Apocalypse version/Day 1 Version (So no crashed plane in the hotel in Chernogorsk and broken buildings) Current Status: Currently Completed Map Pictures of Areas in the Map (More to Come Later as most of it is Forests): Further Comments: I am basing the map on 500mx500m cubes taken out of the dayzdb map online and slowly re-doing them in photoshop to use them in WorldEd. Here is the link to anyone wishing to scale the map or compare it to my creation: http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus#4.020.014 Contact and Contribute: If you wish to contribute or help out, whether that is improving or making tiles, making custom buildings based on the Chernarus/DayZ ones, even custom textures if you can, as well as any suggestions, tips or anything I am willing to accept it. You can help out either by posting in the comments or contacting me via PM and I can get you involved in this current one-man team job and of course you will get credit for your work (No money, is Eastern European, never people was rich here, very sorry, I run this on stolen Soviet PC). Either way I will accept comments of any kind, hope you guys like it! Updates: 07/07/2017: 08/07/2017: 13/07/2017:
  4. So, I've never been a big fan of Arma in general... the modding capabilities and options to choose from were always great though. DayZ finally pulled me in and I played the mod a lot. I also own the DayZ Standalone but it lacks content and options for me, since I was more the "stay in the woods", hunt and survive in a small wolf-pack kinda guy. on the weekend I tried a Arma3 mod I did not know about... "Breaking Point". It feels great to run on an island you don't know, it feels like DayZ again in the beginning. all is new, all is fresh (at least for me). I have no idea about altis, and the controls and gaming feels better and more fluent like DayZ, Arma3 sure improved over Arma2. There are several classes to choose from before you spawn, each having their own goals and things to do that give you XP. you can level up and get benefits or items in return. It kind of feels like an Stalker MMO for me. At the moment, I prefer it over the DayZ Standalone. Anyways, was wondering if you guys heard of the mod or even tried it... other nice Arma3 mods or experiences are welcome! This might even turn me around on Arma3. Never really liked the vanilla arma3
  5. So I've been seeing some of the recent maps being made and it motivated me to make this huge map. Still don't really know the dimensions or if it will even turn out right in the map editor when done. It's the map based on the game Arma II or DAYZ standalone. Still, since you can't really use your own maps in game I guess it's pointless until that day comes. Also just waiting until we get the ability to make curved roads and that sort of thing but during this time I'd thought I'd show what the potential may be. Hopefully if things do go in that direction I'd probably start from scratch. LOL. Anyways just wanted to show this and if anyone could help me out with dimensions and pixels and how big roads should be compared to dirt roads and building sizes and so forth. I'd appreciate some tips. Will be making some cool buildings once I get the hang of the map editor, hopefully. Update: This map is HUGE. updated the map a bit today. A bit more of touching up the Main and Veg maps with dense forests, building placeholder and whatnot. Here are some pictures to show how its coming along. http://imgur.com/a/8O2vN#y1AEL22
  6. So, DayZ seems to be picking up pace. Lots of changes to the server version... lots of testing. It seems like its really close to the relese. Any of you into DayZ? I havent played the mod in ages but I played it a lot back in the golden dayz...
