  1. I am always annoyed about how often there are tables and chairs around that offer no use other than taking up space, but a table leg can offer a decent club in a tight situation and like a tree branch a stone or nail could be attached to it. A table top can often be broken down into thinner and easier to use planks for building or barricading. Just an idea mainly due to the mechanic of being able to create weapons from sticks and stones. (Which in PvP will most definitely break your bones.)
  2. I didn't see this in the common suggestions, though I would surprised if it has never been suggested... but here goes. Zombies are attracted by noise, we all know this. We can lure zombies to us by making noise, why not lure them away with the same concept. The easiest concept would be throwing a rock away into the bushes to draw the zombies over there. (You see that in all kinds of movies) The more ingenious ones would be noise making toys or bomb traps (though we could skip that one if it is too OP (which it probably is)) This could also lead to some crafting to tin cans with pebbles or some sort of alarm clock throwable, etc. Make sense? EDIT: Or if we go ALL kinds of crazy with this we could have remote activated noise makers to draw zombies to a target were we could pick them off from a high vantage point with a hunting rifle.
  3. Since nails will be scarce in the late game, I wanted to be able to use logs to craft, to remove the need to use nails. As you may know, each log equals 3 planks if sawed, but because you are using logs and not planks, well, Il show an example: As stated before, a log equals 3 planks, so naturally, it would require only 1 log, right? Well, no, there has to be a disanvantage, since you don't need to use nails, the con is, you will need to use as many logs as you would need planks, so it would need more time to cut trees down: A wall: Requires 3 Planks + 3 Nails Requires 3 Logs
  4. Battle Axe: 2 Axe + 2 Duct Tape Has the same durability as the axe, but does 1.5 the damage and can hit more zombies with 1 strike. Bayonet: 1 Semi-Auto Rifle + 2 Duct Tape + 1 Kitchen Knife If only 1 zombie is in range, he will be stabbed instead of pushed, the rifle and knife have diferent durabilities, the rifle will wear out when shot, and the knife will wear out when used to stab. Spear: 1 Broom + 2 Duct Tape + 1 Kitchen Knife Can only engage 1 zombie at a time, or will be used to push, can attack zombies at double the range. Bow (Low quality, the best will be found in looting runs): 3 Sturdy Sticks + 2 Duct Tape +2 String / 1 Rope Silent long ranged weapon. Arrow: 1 Sturdy Stick + 1 Stone + 1 Screwdriver ( To break the stone, in order to shape it) Used as ammo for the bow. Arrow Quiver: 3 Empty Sand Bags / 2 Leather (Animal Skin) + 2 Duct Tape If equipped on back, it will take half the time to reload a bow with the arrows stored in the Quiver Homemade Silencer (weaker than ones found on loot): 1 Empty Can (2 needed if making a rifle / shotgun) + 1 Screw Driver (To put the hole in the can) Used to silence a firearm, can support up to 3 shots (only 2 for rifles, and 1 if used for the shotgun). The weapon won't be completely silenced with the homemade one. Side-note for the silencer, remember that it would take a screw driver to actually install it in the firearm, as demonstrated in the weapon overhaul video These are just my ideas, and I created the recipe thinking of how it would take in real life to make them, post your ideas below
  5. Had a bit of a brain wave today. Often, when playing PZ, I don't bother levelling up my carpenting skill that quickly. Even when the water supply konks out, I know there's enough charges left in nearby taps, showers and toilets to keep me going for a while. Often, I'll start filling buckets and cooking pots full of water, then haul them back to the safehouse for a nice little reserve to keep me going until I finally get around to learning to saw a log in half properly. This normally results in a container full of containers of water in the safehouse. So, I got to thinking about water management. I suggest that we be given the ability to empty containers of water into a rain barrel, and that some form of indicator be implemented to inform us how full a water barrel is (in addition to the visual feedback we get now). Say, when you're standing near a rain barrel, you right click on a bucket of water. You see a prompt 'Pour into container: Rain barrel, 75% full'. Click, and there the water goes, just like pouring water into the various empty bottles we have now. Why would this be useful? You might not be getting that much rain, but the full water barrel is a damned useful asset. So, you haul water. The water gets placed in a single, centralised location that you can use to fill up your watering cans, bottles, etc. without the ponderousness of having to fill them by pouring: Instead of having a full cooking pot and a bottle in your inventory, pouring water into the bottle, and storing the pot back in the cabinet, you can simply right-click on the rainbarrel and fill the bottle direct. Suddenly, a rainbarrel doesn't need to be crafted outside to be useful. You could store a large amount of water in a rainbarrel indoors, while your collection point is outside, or hidden elsewhere. Convenience. Maybe the external source of water (be it another barrel, a well, houses with water still in the pipes) has been cut of by zombies, or perhaps you don't want to erect a structure outside that screams 'safehouse' to avoid attracting other players on a PVP server. Or perhaps you're doing some gardening indoors, and walking back outside to fill the watering can is too much of a pain. Again, the convenience of having a large amount of water right there, where you need it. To further extend the concept, perhaps the player could craft a 'water barrel' or 'water tank'. Similar in capacity to the end-tier rain collecting barrel, but craftable at a much lower skill level. This water container would be inferior to even the first teir rain collector, or be incapable of collecting rainwater altogether, but would serve as a convenient place to stockpile water in and around the safehouse. A 'water barrel' could be cheaper in terms of resource expenditure too. You could argue that the large amount of garbage bags used in the construction of the existing rain collecting barrels are used to not only waterproof the container, but serve as a water catchment framework (i.e: Plastic funnel) to help collect water better. The 'water barrel' could then require less garbage bags to construct, as you're only making the barrel water tight. Or perhaps the amount of bags needed to make the high-end rain barrel (or both) could be raised to make storing hauled water more attractive. As a final alternative to consider, perhaps the 'water barrel' concept could be pushed towards the other extreme and become an expensive and very high capacity water storage vessel, ideal for storing all the usable water for a fortress. TL;DR The ability to pour water from containers back into a rain barrel would enable us to stockpile water inside rain barrels situated indoors, or during a dry spellBeing able to pour water from containers into rain barrels would make hauling water from nearby houses a much more attractive proposition, as you no longer need to collect a large amount of pots/buckets to store this hauled waterA new rain barrel ('water barrel') that is very bad/incapable of collecting water, has the same overall capacity, and is easier to craft than an end tier rain barrel would be highly useful. Stockpiling rain or hauled water indoors, or close to where it is needed (i.e: kitchen, indoor garden) would be most convenientEven when the ability to stockpile water in a bathtub (or similar pre-made container) is implemented, being able to build a water storage container (rain barrel or water barrel) wherever you want would give players more flexibility in how they set up their safehouses/supply caches.
  6. Hi guys! What I REALLY miss from the game and I think it would be an excellent addition is the craftable weapons. There is nailed bats, nailed plank and thats it currently. 1. Spears - Long weapon made of stirdy sticks/pool cue and knife and ductape/wire. Has the same kind of durability as a knife (so not much), but provides a slight advantage as you are able to hit/stab the zombie slightly further away from you, providing you with some safety. 2. Shields - Now this one might be slightly obvious, but none the less exciting and fun! You could either make these out of planks, nails and a belt (I crafted many of these practise shields at home for fun with friends), these would not be very durable and would either reduce the chance of being scratched or damage, or give you a little more pushback when zombies aproach. Could be very nicely animated as when they are close and you push with your axe, it would push with both hands shield and axe. (Riot shields and reenforced versions could also be handy e.g. Spikey Shield (extra nails needed like 20). 3. Swords? - Under swords I mean either traditional American civil war weapons (there are some in every household) or craftable metal weapons. I believe that a home made forge could and WOULD be very nice addition to the game, recycling some old car batteries for bullets, or create knives/smaller swords/ machete from old metal trash. This however would be a late game feature requiring a lot of hard to find items that are also heavy (like an anvil). 4. Tinkering existing weapons - Very much like the nailed bat/plank other weapons could be tinkered. First thing that comes into mind is a laser sight or small torch ductaped ontu a gun so that the lamp does not occupy the second equipment slot. This could either increase accuracy, or just simply add the light effect there so you see in the dark better. You could also fix a knife in front of the shotgun for the close combat scenario when you run out of bullets. Not to mention the Scythe which is a very popular weapon in many games and it can be located at farms, hardware stores. Not more durable than a spade, but looks much cooler. Sharpening the weapons could also be an option, or repairing if you have a forge /hammer anvil, or just a sharpening stone (increasing damage, reducing durability slightly). 5. Bows/crossbows - I am sure many threads are on this one already, but as I am a sport archer I think I can add to it First bows are hard to make, the ones you make first time will probably not even kill anything. The ones we use for sport are quite strong and hard to come by which means I would suggest that you have to find these. However the arrows can be made easy, if you aquire the materials (arrow head, stirdy stick, glue, feathers (3)) this makes a nice arrow, which could be recollected from dead bodies and have a chance to break. Then there are the carbon arrows, which hardly ever break and are commonly used by professional archers. These could be recollected many times before breaking or loosing the edge. If we want to make bows craftable, as I said they should be either very weak at first that you shoot 3 times at a zombie before killing it, then slowls increase in quality as the more you craft, or very bad durability and break after 2 uses (very much like fishing rods. Now there could be some other fun craftable items that are weapon related: 1. Ammo pouch - can be equiped as a separate bag for the ammo, and the weapon takes out the ammo from this as a priority. This would allow you to separate the ammo from the other stuff and also maybe reduce the weight somewhat, or make it easier to keep track of your ammunation. It could be crafted at 2-3 level of tinkering. 2. Placeable torch - a lit torch that can be put in the ground and lit for an amount of time. Can be very useful when setting up a battlefield where you will battle the zombies, and very cool light effects Or just when you hear a horde knocking on your door light the ones placed on top of your wall for more visual. Rain puts them out. 3. Scope - When equiped on the weapon, durig the aiming you are able to see further away but your vision gets very narrow. Increases accuracy and can be attached to guns, (rifle) and crossbows. Needs 2 mirrors and a crafted tube (could be just a plastic tube found somewhere). 4. Bayonette - A sharp knife used on the front part of a weapon, can be crafted from a knife and ductape/wire. Or found maybe. 5. Poison - Now this would be interesting Could be made from mushrooms, rotten stuff or dead zombies. Create arrows that are infected with the virus (dipped in zombie blood) and shoot them at that looter who just broke in your house. Use them to set up traps to unwelcomed looters too. Could be used to ruin the water/food supply of another gang. 6. Binoculars - How cool would it be if you could scout your area from a rooftop with your awesome binoculars? They can be found in most hardware stores, or in hunting cabins for sure! This would be an excellent item for those who wish to entrench themselves in one place and looking out for hazards from high places. Could be crafted from two toilet paper rolls and 4 magnifying lenses ^^ These are the ideas I could quickly summon I hope we will get some ideas bouncing back and forth and get some developer insight.
  7. I really like the crafting system, but it's almost entirely based on wood - why not expand that to other materials? I was thinking maybe using a shovel to craft dirt walls, ditches, or embankments, weaving together grasses for baskets to make your own containers, maybe introducing a pickaxe for really advanced crafting of stone walls and other stone things. Maybe adding cliffs or caves to mine rock. If we introduce digging and dirt crafting, we can build underground tunnels and stuff too? Please feel welcome to suggest other materials!
  8. food: should be able to make sandwiches depending on items ham, bread, bacon, lettuce, meat patty, tomato, etc. and should be able to make jello with sugar, bowl of water, one type of fruit and smores should be craft-able with a stick and fireplace if you have crackers chocolate and marshmallows weapons: bows should be craft-able with a piece of string and planks of wood if yr strength is over 12 inventory wise.... and arrows should be craft-able from knifes tent poles planks and duck tape or twine it would give use to twine as well and destructive arrows should also be craft-able where you combine gas with arrows and match or lighter or use alcohol instead of gas or batterys and bottle of water and wire to make electricity arrows also make it to wear you can make pipe bombs if you find the book to read for it items to make a pipe bomb draino and pop cans or aluminum foil would put emty soda can in trash cans or full soda cans in homes and vending machines wouldnt quench yr thirst as much as a soda bottle would.... ps if someone could make a modd to where you can kick crawlers in the face by clicking and commanding to stun them for 10 secs would be amazing it makes sense right y cant i curb stomp a zombie when he is down should work with any zombie on the ground also where are the machetes and lawn mower blades at? lol clothing and armor: i know everyone else wants it but y havnt anyone made these things yet should be able to combine duck tape or twine with newspapers and magazines to prevent scratches on the arms and legs and should be destroyed after being scratched on the arms or legs ten times helmets and running shoes to sprint faster or boots to do more damage with curb stomping would also be amazing ps we should be able to hog tie zombies with belts or rope just for the fun of it expesaly if your one of those ppls that want to feed your wife who turned on you or if you just want a friend for the next couple of days yr both still alive also the hog tieing feature would be amazing with pvp or random survivors
  9. I have an idea of being able to carry corpses (like planks and Logs) they shall weight around 5 and will allow you to build barricades and walls with corpses. Carrying one corpses will lower your mood and also it may make you a bit panicked. If the player has a trait ( "Can't stand smells" ) he will become nauseuous when near a corpse when carrying one or when he is near zombies and Constructions made with corpses. Crafting a Wall with corpses will concentrate all the items they were wearing in one "container" . You will be able to use corpses to block doors and windows just as if they are barricades. However they will be easily removed by players. Zombies will have to hit one corpse wall around 10 times in order to pass through it.
  10. So first off I just to say I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, nor am I looking to flame anyone, nor am I looking to start a text war like I have seen on some of the other posts on this topic line. That being said after reading a few of the other post in regards to smithing I just thought it would be nice to take a different look at the idea. I only feel the need because, well some of the things I read don't make sense. I grew up with a father that was a civil and mech engineer, he loved to tinker and he loved to work with his hands, he also loved to repair/reinvent things. One our fav things to do was to drive around in his beat up truck and grab stuff people threw away and make it useful again. I work with my hands a lot, I grew up in MO here in the states, friends had farms that I worked on and I also managed a light construction, and landscaping company for about 5 years ,It will make sense why I'm bringing all this up in a bit. 1) the idea that your player learns skills at any sort of reasonable rate in regards to carpentry or farming is absurd, both these skills take years to master. It's one thing to be a farm hand and be told to dig a ditch or bail some hay, it's a whole different beast to harvest seeds by hand and to tend crops. Building a multi level dwelling is much the same way, it's even more silly to try to do these things with out the proper tools ( level, protractor, measuring tape, chisel, sand paper, L-joints, bracing fixtures ect ect) the idea that some one can go from no skill in wood working to being able to build a house with a saw hammer and nails in a matter of a week or two is silly. These are skills that in old times you were raised into, taught your whole life to master. But it's how it is because it's a game, and it's fun this way so why would smithing need to be so ultra realistic either. 2) a forge can be built by the avg guy, not some crazy thing that takes weeks to build ,but cinder blocks stacked and then covered with dirt to form a mound will work for making a basic forge ( I know because I have made one ). Need a anvil? there's construction site that have I-beams just laying there get a metal saw from the hard ware store and spend a day cutting a small section off one, now you have a totally flat class 2 tempered steal ready to go anvil. Just get 2 buddies or a wheel barrel/shopping cart or car to get it back home ( all things that may be in the pipe line ) Need fuel ? Get charcoal from the super market. Need something to protect u from the heat? Go to the fire dept and get a fire fighting outfit and use your knife to make it work. The parts would be all over the place for someone that wanted to make it happen. 3) you wouldn't need ore as some people have said, you have a world of already to go metal all around you: rebar, street signs, nails, shell casings, coins, silverware, car bumpers, tin cans you would never run out of metal, there's also a lot that would take way less work to turn into a weapon like a lawn mower blade ( heat it, flatten it, grind it, sharpen it, add glue and the a handle and now you have a short sword/club, or really how much work would it take to turn a sturdy garden hoe into a spear. 4) as for it not breaking the Game balance that seems easy too, no skill books past level 2-3 I'm sure the public library in your small town has some books that would give the avg joe some useful tips on making stuff in a forge, or how shaping metal in gen works, but for the good stuff to be built you need to invest lots of time and resources into learning what your doing. Make weapons at the low tier no better than stuff u can find, or have their durability crappy until you get more skill, and make the combines take a long time. Want 100 nails great ! Well spend two days in game making them and have someone watching your back to deal with the Zeds that pounding a hammer on metal is going to make, and be sure to have a great supply of water and food, cause that forage is hot and it's hard work swinging a hammer all day. 5) the need overcomes the difficulty, what I mean is that if you have no nails and you need to make your home safer, would you just say "well there's no more nails guess the zombies are gonna get me" or would you find some way to make something happen ? Your player is a survivor that's what survivors do, the beat the odds, they make it happen, they figure out ways to over come problems. In short 1) would it be fun to build your own/reconfigure/salvage your own tools and weapons ? I vote yes 2) is it something that the avg person could do ? Well at some point a long time ago all over the world people figured it out and I have done some basic stuff ,so I'm gonna go with yes 3) is it in keeping with the Romero lore ? Gonna have to go with yes, it seems like salvaging and rebuilding is very much a coroner stone of a zombie Apoc. Sorry the post was so long thank you for reading, please add your constructive comments PS: anyone that thinks I'm off base with the farming/wood working please try one of two things before you counter, go cut a sapling down, and then try to make a plank with a bow/hacksaw and post your finished product here with the amount of time it took you to make it. Or go talk to a Amish farmer and find out how to harvest seeds from the stuff you can grow in zomboid.
  11. I love building, it's my fav thing to do in zomboid, now that multi player is here it's great to build forts and homes for myself and other players. My idea is two fold: 1) have the ability to open a construction menu that you would need a notebook/paper and pen/pencil to use. With it open you can build just like you build in game but all you would be doing is making a plan, you could then gather mats and while holding the plan or by reading the plan you can just tell your guy to start building and he follows the building plan. This would allow you to do a few things, see the materials your going to need to build it, also more than one copy of the plan could be made with a copy plan option or the ability to study and learn the plan. That way two or more people could be on the same page as far as building with less micro managing. 2) a way besides stairs to go up a level because it can be down right silly to build something like a 6x6 wide watch tower 4 levels up, the construction process ends up looking like some thing out of a MC Essier painting. A ladder or something that's not 4 tiles long would be helpful.
  12. Since whenever i have imagined a zombie apocalypse the first thing i imagine myself doing is frantically searching for a broom and then using its handle to craft a spear. Stabbing Just like when the zombie gets close enough you can stab him with the knife to one hit kill. We should be able to one hit stab in the head with a spear from way further. Please add this Advantages of spears in a zombie apocalypse Longer range Stabbing as well as blunt weapon Can be thrown as a javelin can be used for fishing Way a spear can be crafted and improved (Suggestions are welcome) Broom Handle/Plank/Baseball bat + Kitchen knife + Duct tape Plank + Axe/Knife (For sharpening) = wooden spear Wooden Spear + Fire source = Hardened Spear Broom handle/ Plank + Candle stand + hammer(To break away the candle cups and sharpen the ends) = multi-pronged spear Some other ways http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Spear What do you guys think? i for one will be very happy if this is added
  13. In project zomboid a rather large amount of emphasis is put on crafting. Craft a molotov cocktail to thin out a horde before going in with a bat, craft bandages, craft food. This has probably been suggested before in part and is in the game in part. But I think that more craft-able weapons would be really cool. for example: Stick + kitchen knife + duct tape = Improvised spear Sock + pool ball = Flail (maybe even two of each for twice the smashing (flails are sometimes misnamed maces)) metal pipe (sticks would be too flimsy) + "insert vaguely large round metal object here" = mace These are all examples not the only ones I want added.
  14. How about a wheelbarrow or a wagon for hauling supplies or logs and etc? I am sure there are plenty of them in Kentucky. But make them difficult to be crafted, and have some negative impacts from using it. you get tired faster, can't sprint, you have to let go of it to swing a weapon. It would be great for hauling logs or planks for construction. It could even break after X amount of use and need repaired with X amount of parts, so it would be stuck where it is and you have to fix it on the spot. I can just imagine pulling a wagon full of supplies and getting surrounded by a horde and then leaving it only to be stolen by someone else in the server. haha
  15. So currently there are only 3 weapons you can craft in game (nailed plank, nailed baseball bat, and saw-ed shotgun). While all the other crafting systems are pretty awesome so far, weapon crafting is just sad at the moment. I think one of the reasons why it has been neglected is because it's hard to come up with feasible formula's to put in a realistic game like PZ. Reason i made this thread so that ideas can be tossed around. List a formula for a weapon that can be actually useful against zombies but can be constructed with reasonable materials Flamethrower Weight: 8-12 Durability: High Blueprints: 1x Garden House, 1x Empty Propane Tank, 1-3x Gas Can, 1x Garden Hose, 1x Backpack Refill: Empty Flamethrower + 1-3x Gas Can Battery: Co2 Propane tanks can be found in empty grills and garden hoses could just be placed in front of random houses. The durability of this item would be high but the Gas Can fuel would be depleted extremely quickly. Essentially the fuel would work just like how water bottles due and the longer you hold the flame the emptier it gets. Also note that just like flashlights you would need a canister of Co2 to power it. Old Lady Purse Weight: 4 Durability: Medium Blueprints: 1x Purse, 1x SandBag Has very high knockback but can only kill zombies who are on the ground.
  16. Captain Flapjack reporting with a requisition form for the projects high commands, Codenamed: Devs I wanted to suggest a few things: 1. Simple root cellars for food preservation before/after power grid failure. I think it would be neat if you could (possibly using crafting, farming, or both skills) dig a small hole a few feet deep in the ground with a crate inside. That way the cold of the ground could help preserve perishables, especially farmed foodstuffs. Albeit, they wouldn't be as effective as a refrigerator, but still of utmost importance mid/late game when the power fails and your food spoils! 2. I know from personal experience that potatoes last a long time in the open as long as it is cool and dark. My family and I grow vegetables during the summer, and we still have a small crate of potatoes in our basement that are still usable for cooking! I think it would be a great implementation for those hard working late game farmers, and it would make potato farming very useful. 3. Bottling foods, such as rabbit, beats, etc, and making jams. With some salt water, a glass jar and top, and a pot of boiling water and you can seal up foods and jams that would have a long shelf life! 4. Smoking or drying meats. Smoking meats could increase it's shelf life. As could drying them (We already have beef jerky in game!). 5. Last but not least, drying and salting caught fish (if fishing ends up in the game that is). With something to lie out the cleaned fish in the sun, and some salt, you could potentially keep fish stored away for cooking for a quit a while! EDIT: 6.How about portable coolers as a container you can carry and slowly keep things cool at the same time? Small ones could be carried in a single hand. You could also get larger ones that could have extra storage capacity and/or weight reduction but require 2 hands (I have one of each in my house at the moment!) This was suggested by Jela331 initially, thanks friend! EDIT 2: 6.5. Building off of Jela331's cooler idea, it would make sense if you could find a new item, ice trays, and fill them with water and place them in the fridge (Or a whole new compartment with less storage, the freezer part up top) and after some time they produce ice and and empty tray. From that point we could use the ice to keep the coolers cold (Still slightly less than a fridge, depending on the kinda of cooler). When generators are implemented, one could power their fridge to make ice for their coolers, making them possible late game storage containers! This idea was suggested by Peemore, and I think it is an excellent idea and very realistic, thank you for the suggestion bud!. EDIT 3: 6.5.2. If the cooler idea were to be implemented, then have large, stationary ones found in some basements/cabins/or houses that rely on ice alone to keep their goods cold would also make said building ideal for a safe house (As long as you have a supply of ice) late game when the power grid fails! (Jela331 and Peemore pretty much gave me the idea for this one, so they get the credit here too! Thanks guys!!) I apologize if this post is long, and even more if it's already been done (I did some searches but turned up with nothing, but then again I'm a dumb guy, so..). I also owe you many thanks for reading this far! I am not going to take all the credit for these suggestions, as these all came together from the help of some of the community when I asked a few questions! The credit goes to all of us here: http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/5321-hand-built-crates/
  17. Disclaimer: I've only played a couple hours since 2012 so I'm not entirely sure if some of the mechanics and additions I describe would fit in with the game, or be possible in the engine, but here goes. Suppressors I think firearm suppressors would be a great addition to the game because right now, firearms are very rarely a viable option, and can turn an emergency situation into an even worse one by attracting more zombies. Crafting: This would necessitate the existence of a mechanics/physics skill, or maybe a firearms knowledge skill? Anyway, the player would need several materials, tools and the correct level of said skill/knowledge. This would make it difficult to acquire quickly. There could be several levels of crafted suppressors, each being more effective than the last, but likewise requiring more materials, time and knowledge. Looting: Pre-apocalypse manufactured suppressors would be extremely rare (There'd be a good chance of none spawning) but to make up for this they would be more effective than a DIY one. However, they would only work for a certain class of firearm and no others, whereas crafted ones can be made for any firearm. Gameplay: When attached to a firearm, a suppressor would nullify the report. However, the volume of the shot in the direction of fire would remain similar to that of an unsuppressed gunshot. This means that if there are zombies between you and your target, they will also hear the shot, however the radius the noise travels from the shooter would be reduced. At longer distances though, it would be practically silent. Ammunition crafting: Now this one is a bit complicated and probably won't be added, but with advanced firearms knowledge the player would basically be able to craft different loads, IE high-velocity, or sub-sonic ammuntion. Sub-sonic ammunition would reduce the volume in the direction of fire at a cost of decreased penetration and damage, and would be practically useless without a suppressor. High-velocity ammunition would be the opposite, it would make the firearm have a louder report in exchange for increased damage and penetration. It would also degrade the firearm and the suppressor faster than regular or subsonic ammunition. The player could also manufacture hollowpoint rounds which have increased damage against a single target but virtually no penetration. This doesn't yet seem necessary since zombies will die to one shot anyway, but if there are any changes to that it would be a welcome addition. Weapon Modification: With advanced knowledge in firearms, survivors would be able to make minor modifications to their weapons provided they have the materials. These would include magazine size (In the two higher reloading difficulties, these modifications would be made to the magazines themselves where applicable), stability/accuracy (Stocks and grips [Though they seem 100% accurate at the moment]) and view distance (Improvised/looted optics). With a scope attached, when in aiming mode your field of view would be very narrow, but very long and increase the distance you can scroll off-screen. If you've played Jagged Alliance 2, you have some idea of how I imagine it in my head. Firemodes would also be another possible modification, in other words making a semi-auto weapon full-auto. The rate of fire of shotguns could also be increased by converting it from pump-action to semi auto (I'm not sure how possible this would be IRL but I'm sure it would be, given enough patience and knoweldge) The main suggestion here is suppressors. The other two are ballpark, but I included them anyway.
  18. I think it would be cool if given the proper equipment we could craft ammo. Something like collecting used shells or finding them randomly then finding gunpowder and maybe a chunk of lead. I've seen it in person and its fairly simple to do. I think it would be especially fun in multiplayer stocking up and having a small army of well equipped friends as long as it is quite time consuming to gather all the resources to do so.

  20. ( I Copy+pasted this from my post on the steam forums because i'm lazy) ( EDIT: I guess much of this is already suggested, there are some things on here that go into more detail about a suggestion and how it could work. I kinda just wanted to throw this out there. ) Hi, I've been following PZ's development for awhile and i just want to list some things that would be cool to have in the game, whether or not they'll work is what you can discuss. 1: Welding -Welders, Welding sticks, Sheet metal, steel Poles - basically to be able to weld metal objects together and form items/defenses like these: -makeshift Machetes -Makeshift spears or arrowheads -Metal Doors - three types of welding, 1) acetylene torch welding, doesn't require electricity, but cannot weld strong metals 2)Arc welding, requires electricity 3) Battery welding, requires three batteries, welding stick, and jumper cables. works like a arc welder but drains the batteries fairly fast. 2: Power generation - Generators to run welders and power refrigerators and houses. - Batteries to store charge - Inverters to create AC current from the batteries - car alternators - Constructable Power sources: 1) Windmills using car alternators to create electricity. 2) Solar panels on some buildings which can be recovered and placed.\ 3) Woodgas furnace to create a fuel engines can use if you don't have Gasoline -Wiring and Lights, the ability to run wire from your Batteries or generator to outside lights or tools 3: Engines -engines which can be found in scrap yards, repair shops, or from vehicles. can be used with Alternators to create a makeshift gas generator. ( Not movable once built ) 4: Vehicles, wrecked and Crafting/customization of them - Wrecked vehicles on roads, - Rubber tubes to siphon gas - Gas cans - Tires - three sizes 1) Large truck or tractor tires 2) Normal car tires 3) Motorcycle tires -Simple Vehicle crafting, Like dune buggies, Tri-bikes, ect. -Crafting plans; you need a crafting plan before you can create a certain vehicle. - Customization; welding spikes, armor plating, extra storage space, seats, spray painting. ect. on your vehicles, 5: Tools -Chainsaws - tire iron, required to take off car tires. can be a melee weapon as well - Drills - Wire cutters - hatchets - Chisels, required to make things more intricate, like a semi-fancy table or chair. - Spray paint 6: Weapons, most of these are non-lethal which would be best against humans - Net guns, can be used to capture a person when in close range, craftable - Pepper spray - Flares - Water cannon, craftable, can be used to knock down humans - combat knifes - Riot shield, craftable - Man catcher, can be used to grab a zombie around the neck and lead them, craftable - Cattle prod/ taser - Smoke bombs, craftable -Crossbows, Craftable 7: Misc. gameplay ideas and items: -Rope, zip ties, handcuffs - Blindfolds -Kidnapping, speaks for itself. - Careers before the Apocalypse: only certain skill sets can craft certain items, construction worker can craft advanced structures, a mechanic can create generators and vehicles with a Electrician. Doctors and nurses can heal people more effectively, Hunters can create traps for game. A very cool idea, which would encourage more teamwork between players if they want to live in a settlement together. - Rationing, can eat only a portion of a meal if necessary. Can be used to share a single item with someone. - misc electronics, record players, Movies ( Which will boost happiness for awhile, can be watched on a TV, provided you have power) - Shopping carts, can store many more items than a backpack but has to be pushed on pavement . And that's all i can type right now, it's alot but it would make this game a gem.
  21. I would like suggest wall mounted shelves as a beginner level carpentry structure. Any fool who's even looked at a shop class can nail a plank with a few supports to the wall for an ugly but fully functional shelf. They to me therefor feel like one of the first ideas that you'd easily come up with, and one of the first things you'd realistically be able to put together as a beginner. For their function I'd suggest that they'd be a lower level storage than crates, as well as serving as a decor to make your inpenetratable fortress more homely. They would require less carpentry skill and material to build than crates, but would also able to store less. They can only be mounted on a wall, and would occupy less moving space than crates (and can maybe be placed above things like crates and counters). Their function would not be a highly neccesary addition to the game, but they would add to the immersion as one of the things you could realistically put together at a low level. I also think they'd be easy enough to create and implement to justify them not having any large impact on gameplay.
  22. The zombie apocolypse. A very rough senario that can be difficult to go through, and you have to try your best to survive. But let's be honest, you can't always be looking for bullets, and your gun isn't always going to be at tip-top shape. Ammunition Crafting and Gun Maintenance: Weapons are crucial in the zombie breakout. They protect you and make the scary things go away with a bang. The bang being your gun. However, guns aren't the same as a baseball bat. You can't just cover it in duct tape and say it's good. You need to use bullets and take care of it. This being you: -Getting shells, gunpowder, and components to make the bullets and -Knowing your gun's problems, fixing them, and maintaining them The problem thou, is not everyone is a gun nut or gun smith. This is where a learning tree comes in. Overtime, you learn, adapt, understand, maybe even find a book to inform you more. Not to say this is how you will always find bullets, but you it's unreliable to rely on luck. And no, this doesn't mean you have to start mining for lead and steel to make bullets. I'm sure you'll figure a way to get the metal and powder. Maybe illegal fireworks and smelted down scrap metal, who know's?; and at least know what your shooting so that it doesn't blow up in your face due to lack of oiling. It's hell out there, and you want to live as long as you can. Every second counts, so make sure you know your safe for at least another night.
  23. First of all, let me say that I couldn't find the original mod post on this forum and the other forum it is on won't let me log on. I've been trying to to this for a while now and can't seem to find the download link I need. I am using the latest PZ update out there, so I need the hot fix for this mod. I cant find the link to the hot fix anywhere and its really frustrating So, If anyone could help me out by giving me a link to the hot fix for this mod...http://www.theindiestone.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15407 I would be very grateful. I'm probably just being stupid and it is an easy thing to find :/
  24. Before I get started please forgive my spelling and grammar, It has to be my weakest skill. Also I would like to start by saying that you guy have a truly amazing game and I hope my comments don't rub anyone the wrong way. I was wondering why The PC eye site is so poor, it seems like I have to get way to close to zombies before I can see them, It just seems a little bit silly to not be able to see 50 zombies standing in the street 3 or 4 blocks away. Your PC seems to only be able to see and hear about 20-25 feet in front/around them. I mean in this world all the back ground noise is gone, all you would really hear is birds and other natural noises in the day time, and at night it would be all but Silent but for the moans of the 100's of undead running around the city. At night time on a quite street you can hear people 100 feet or more away if the sound has a clear LOS to you and unless its over cast most people can see more than 3 feet at night time. I can understand on a new moon it being that dark, but even with no street lights and no moon star light will allow you to not be walking blind. I was also wondering about the way the Zombies spawn, it seems just well, for lack of a better word, and im sorry, Broken. In my last game it was 14 days into the world and both the power and water had already failed, So I thought that I would check out that farm way out to the west. I kid you not I got there after 2 days travel midday, cleared the house, made dinner, went to sleep, woke up went out side and on the just off the front porch is 50+ zombies!? I understand that you have to find some way to balance the remote locations to prevent players from just hiding under a rock so to speak but that just seems not right at all. Another example was with the play before that, about 2 months into a sandbox game, I had managed to setup 2 safe houses in the city, I had managed to loot almost 40% of the town proper and stock piles over 160 shotgun rounds and upwards of 180 9mm, So I thought to myself "Well I guess at this point in real life I would take the fight to the zombies" needless to say I killed almost 900 zombies, that town only has 3000 people in it, one would think that would have a effect on how many you run into on the street for a while, I mean sure more are going to come but they would be coming in from the woods around the city drawn in by the gun fire. 3rd Example the large warehouse on the north end of town that you can get on the roof, I lead a horde of zeds in one end ( after I had Boarded up all the windows ) when I ran out the other end I sealed up that door, and then ran back around the other side and cleared a hole with a shotgun so I could close the door I had them follow me in sealing about 30-40 inside, I thought myself pretty clever. When I came back to check on them the next day the place was empty though none of the windows or doors were broken down. I guess they just despawned. The other thing with spawning that I noticed was the overly random places you find items when looting, Why does the Pizza place have seeds on the make line ? I find it a little odd to find 9mm rounds in the Kitchen at the burger Joint. When you build a house and make a Object does it have a list of what things might be inside it ? That might prevent some of that sillyness Realism seems to be a core factor in game play, however it seems to be over looked in a lot of key aspects. The Trait system perhaps needs to have a look taken to it. It seems silly to have to have bad skills just to be good at something. Thats not at all how people are, being forced to pick at least two things "that are wrong with you" just to be strong seems a bit silly, Yes lots of people have a weakness or two, but a lot of people don't have it to the point that the trait system suggests, Perhaps starting with 4 - 6 points to spend would make PCs a little more like people. I know that's kinda what the professions are, but they are two different things, one offers skills that you have learned over the years doing what you do, the other is just your natural skills, lots of people are simply strong because they spend 4 hours a the gym every week other than that they are pretty much avg but they don't have any Major flaws, The Weight and Space system seems like it could use some work as well, 160 shotgun shells don't take up most of a book shelf, it also wont take you 5 mins to pick up a Ax and put it in a backpack Have you every walked any place carrying 3 back packs on ? Your not going to be going into closer quarter combat like that, thats for sure. Moving on to weather, I will not rain every two days in K.Y. never has, never will, but its almost like clock work it seems, 2 day clear sky, then rain. or maybe more often that that even, <-- that's the face of not being able to go outside and play with Zed cause im scared Ill get wet and catch a cold and die..... Crafting- Man this is where I think the game gets so much fun, and has the most room of all to expand, Its the end of the world mate, no more rules, time to put a blade on that shotgun son, time to make your own armor, no im not talking about plate mail, News paper wrapped around your forearm with tape will stop a bit, Your kids Foot ball helm make for a cheeky headbutt, Or in my case, there's no way Zed could bite though my Synthetic Motorcycle gear, Hell even Classic Leather riding gear would go a long long way, When you have nothing but time on your hands and the will the not be eaten alive, you would be amazed what people come up with, not to hard to sharpen a broom handle into a spear, not very hard to break the handle off a Knife and wedge that in to a broom stick either, then reinforce with with screw, or tape, And back to this rain thing.... its super easy to turn those plastic bags into rain gear, no it wont last forever but when your options are cover your self with a trash bag or catch a cold and die / stay inside and be overrun by Zed, I take the 2 secs to cut 3 holes in a bag and throw it over my head. Where are the explosives ? This is K.Y... any farming supply store has blasting caps, each one is a 1/4 stick of TNT, If your PC can learn to build a house, Im sure they can figure out how to make a pipe bomb. I know this post is long, I know im kinda ranty, im sorry, Please don't think Im bashing on your game, Your game rocks, I have never had more fun playing any other Survival Game, I am not a programmer I have no idea how hard any of my ideas would be to add to the game. I just wanted to try to offer some constructive feed back. If anyone reads this and wants to try to mod some of these ideas and make them real I have made lots of table top games, And have used modding tools for other games before, I dont know how effective I would be trying to do this stuff by myself but I know I could be useful in making it happen working with another person/persons Ill keep a eye on this thread and see if anyone has any interest in it. Keep On Rocking Guys ! Salvag3
